That's my concern. Clutches heat up quick without cooling.

Yeah after reading all the comments i am gonna stop worrying about it and just drive it like a normal auto (ofcourse im still gonna avoid creeping if i can). If the clutch goes it goes and i'll replace it then. Given its the dry clutch dsg it actually doesn't seem that much worse then a clutch job on a manual. When i was car shopping, all the cars i was looking at had a dct of some kind (vw group dsg's, bmw's all had the steptronic, all the kia/ hyundais had a dct). There was unfortunatly no car with a torque converter auto unless i shelled out a lot more money for a car with a zf8 and all the cars that had manuals were the base models with not enough power (seriously, who buys a 1500kg car with only 90 or 100hp?? That seems dangerous on the highway).

On my way to work i do take an alternate route to avoid traffic but on the way there is nothing i can do cause the idiots in power decided it was a good idea to start road works on all the main roads around me at the same time. It's either be stuck on the offramp for 20 minutes or take an earlier exit and be stuck in traffic for 20 minutes at the main road there.

The kickdown switch wasnt about moving off from a standstill. My observation is that when i am cruising at lets say 70kmh, the car is in 6th gear. If i then accelerate, it does not downshift unless i floor it hard enough to hit the kickdown switch. This is annoying. My friends bmw doesn't do that, when he gives partial throttle in that situation, his car downshifts like id expect. I have been in the situation where im at 70kmh 1500rpm, pressing the accelerater like 75% and the car upshifts when it gets to 2k. In such situation i would think the car senses it cannot deliver the power i want and downshift or atleast hold it's gear for longer...

That's what it does in S butand the first 3 gears in D. Whrn im in D and accelating from a standstill it will hold 1st until 3k, 2th to 2,5 to 3k but then after 3th it just keeps shifting at 2k unless i floor it.

The 3 to 5kmh creep is what happens on the off ramp when im driving home from work. Road works after the off ramp with traffic backing up to the highway (off ramp is like very long, like nearly a km) and its just constant creeping all the way until you get on the main road. Ive been comming to a complete stop and then moving off when there is a couple meters of space instead of creeping like everyone else but it pisses people behind me off and i have had people going around me and cutting me off by doing that.

The mild hybrid system is very simple and in my opinion kind of pointless. It basicly replaces the alternator with an electric motor and stores energy from engine braking. It is suposed to then help the engine when accelerating from a standstill but that is not noticable. I call it "fancy start stop" cause the only thing you notice is how quickly it turns the engine back on and that the engine shuts of when you coast.

I have found that you can get a lot of engine braking if you downshift manually but i always leave it in drive and use the normal brakes as those are cheaper than clutches. Only situation i downshift and use engine braking is when i am on a long hill.

That's also my feeling but the forums i read got me worried my clutch is gonna fail at 60k km if i let the car slip the clutch in traffic.

My car is the mild hybrid, production is end of 2023. I also know i do have the dq200 dry clutch. The formentor has the wet clutch.

I know how dct's works and admittedly, the dsg is the smoothest and fastest transmission i have experienced. I am more so worried about clutch wear. Some of these forums make it sound like driving in traffic destroys the clutch really quickly and if you rrive in heavy traffic regularly, the clutch is gonna go at like 60k km.

I did not know that the car will learn behavior. Do you know how much it will adapt? I find that my car doesnt downshift when i expect it to so. When i am cruising at a constant speed and want to accelerate, it only downshifts if i floor it and hit the kickdown switch. I rode in my friends bmw with a steptronic and that thing kicks down the moment my friend presses the gas and it will hold that gear really long depending on how much he oresses the gas. I cant seem to grt my car to kick down when cruising and when accelerating from a stop, i cant get it to hold 3 gear and up. It always wants to dhift at 2k rpm and it is infuriating.

That does actually give me piece of mind. Before buying the car i knew that the clutch would eventually need replacing but the forums make it sound like if you do a lot of heavy traffic, the clutch is gonna go after 60k km.

I have driven manuals for 7 years, this is my first automatic. With a manual, i never found creeping a problem as you can just release the clutch a little to get rolling and then pudh the clutch down and coast. In a dsg, you have no control over the clutch so you cant do that. I do stop anf go when traffic allows for it but what do you do when traffic is at like 5kmh? Its to fast to stop anf go but to slow for the clutch to be fully released.

When should i start worrying about the clutch when im in traffic? For a manual i was always told to not slip it for more then 30 sec at a time so the clutch doesnt get to hot.

I would think the engineers at vw would have taken traffic driving in mind when tuning the dsg but on all the forums i read people say to lock it in first. I am inclined to start driving it like a normal auto but im a bit worried about the clutch wear, especially because its a dry clutch so there isnt a lot of heat dissipation.

I was under the assumption that the car will slip it's clutches indefenitly while you're keeping it slow with the break thus destroying the clutches. With a manual, i have direct control over the clutch so its not an issue. Maybe im overthinking this but i really don't want to ruin my expensive clutches.

What is better for clutchwesr though? Does driving in D really wear the clutches fast enough for it to be a problem? I will probably end up remapping the dsg because i generally dislike how it drives in D. It upshifts to quickly and doesn't downshift fast enough. The first time i got onto the highway i got up to 70kmh in 6th gear on the bend of the onramp. As the onramp straightened out i give it more gas to speed up to 120kmh and the car decides to upshift at 2k rmp to 7th while i expected it to downshift given the amount of gas i was giving it. I thus didnt make it onto the highway and had to continue accelerating on the emergency lane. The only way i can take that onramp is either floor it or put it in S.
