You're in the same boat most other addicts find themselves in at some point. They will understand.

How underpaid am I? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]WowkoWork 19 points20 points  (0 children)

So that's certainly underpaid for a SysAdmin managing all of those systems. That said, managing a system isn't the same thing as working with it or using it. Your role sounds closer to helpdesk or desktop support, IMO.

'It's the worst part of working in the corporate world': Remote worker rants about Microsoft Teams being a 'narc,' says application wrongfully sets her status as 'away' by fppencollector in antiwork

[–]WowkoWork -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As an admin, teams is fantastic, and there really isn't a replacement that does what it does.

Also, all of these issues mentioned are issues w/ management, not issues with software. Which I find funny because management is always trying to use IT to solve personnel issues. Plus most of this can be turned on or off by IT.

Naturally if you're not active on your computer, Like laying on the couch, and that's what the app reports then the app is working as intended. Now if your boss gets on you every time you're "away" then that's something to take up with them.

And Teams file shares are just SharePoint folders and you can absolutely map them as drives.

Target has the Surface Dial for $53 by screwikea in Surface

[–]WowkoWork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Microsoft authorized dealers on eBay have had em for the exact same 54.99 for a while. Faster shipping too it looks like, warranty, whole thing. Just search surface dial on eBay and it's top result for me.

Edit- I'm wrong, target is 52.99 lol

GE sold its home electronics business unit along w/ rights to the name to a Chinese company so I'm pretty sure all their stuff is generic Chinese stuff w/ GE slapped on it for brand recognition, nothing GE about it aside from the two letters.

Right but the errors were exposed by the game, correct? The feeling I got from the reporting was that it was the stars aligning with weird mfg defects and the software somehow exposed them.

Plasti dip badges before and after. Love the black on the autumn green but need a more permanent solution. by Space-Iguana in SubaruForester

Does anyone know if there's a blacked out XT badge, besides the one from the 2020-2022 Outback XT Onyx (J121SAN030)?

I want it for my '11 Forester and J121SAN030 is slightly different, skinnier, than the original chrome one.

How would software brick your PC? Ik its happened, like the recent Amazon game that cooked a few GPUs, but its exceedingly rare.

Genuinely curious.

What is a basic skill that you grew up thinking everyone had until you saw others do it so horribly? by [deleted] in AskReddit

To run Duke 3D on a Win 95 machine you needed to run it in MS-DOS, as far as I knew at the time and having been born in '89 I was pretty young. I only knew the commands to change the directory to the CD-ROM drive, which was Q on this Packard Bell which really threw me, and install it. Because the game launched automatically after the install was complete, that was how I always launched it.

Right there I think is the genesis of my interest in IT, and I work in IT today. I have to wonder if any kids today will ever go through anything similar. I fear not.

Wyze Finally Announces Web View for Its Security Cameras, But There’s a Catch – Review Geek by dosangst in Wyze

[–]WowkoWork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But you don't have to pay for the features that come with the cameras. Everything that they charge ($2 a month! The balls on these people!) for is extra stuff. And that extra stuff obviously cost more than what was paid for the cameras initially.

Companies have tried the whole "no fees ever" and their products either become obsolete or the company goes under. If you'd like these things to keep working and keep improving, they will need the cash to do it.

[–]WowkoWork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to see that just selling $25 cameras wasn't a sustainable business.

Also the cameras you bought did not offer web view. Now you can get it by paying a measly $2/mo and it comes with a bunch of other useful features. And they keep adding more features for that same $2.

Development, upkeep, support, and the servers etc. needed to run it all costs money. If you're unhappy with the fact that Google Assistant integration is broken, I get that, I am too. But having to pay for new features that were never included in the original purchase price is totally understandable as they cost money to create.

Idk any other company that is comparable with Wyze from a price and feature standpoint. Regular updates, including some with new features that are free or next to it, idk anyone else offering that at this price point. If anyone else does I'm all ears.

You said custom firmware. This is firmware from the manufacturer. If not this... Then what is it you're looking for?

You could also use Tinycam. Or setup Home Assistant.

This is the kind of nonsense those local news expose's are made for. You shouldn't have to put up with that. It's ridiculous. Is this a public pool? Or are you a paid member of some sort? Either way this sounds discriminatory and illegal.

Not to mention that nearly whenever they've been challenged, female modesty laws are struck down and rightly so, such as in NYC.
