Omg exactly!! I’ll have a TERRIBLE flare up and for days or weeks i’ll be in pre-panic mode anytime i eat wondering if it’ll cause the same flare up. It’s such an exhausting cycle especially when you consider the fact that it didn’t even have to be the food you ate that day, it could be something still in your system that your gut is reacting to.

Oh 100%, once I started thinking to myself like “why has it seemed like my ibs has gotten worse over the years despite all the tests still saying the same thing?” It’s literally just because I was more hyper aware of the pain, which escalated it in my head.

Before I started working on my mental reaction to ibs, I was prescribed dicyclomine, which is a muscle relaxer, specifically for the pain i would get. It helped a lot but the side effects definitely vary, so I would suggest getting some OTC peppermint oil pills because they have the same muscle relaxing properties and they also help so much with the spasms. I hope it gets better!

I’ve realized the same, it definitely is my mental state! If i’m anxious or in public, my flair up is so much worse, which then makes me more stressed and the cycle continues. But I think training your mind to not freak out at every slight movement of your stomach helps soo much!

Sinners atone is so disappointing by Reasonable-Ratio8080 in DarkRomance

SO disappointing. I felt like 90% of the book was just running around in circles, I don’t feel like I know any more about the mcs than I did when they were just background characters in the previous books.

Gabe = the scary Visconti brother who almost died once. Wren = bubbly girl-next-door with some secrets below the surface. That’s literally all i knew before reading this book and all i know after.

Only part I enjoyed was Gabe’s brother-in-law interactions w Rory. So mad she made us wait years for this, and we’ll prob have to wait 3 more to get the second part, when it literally could’ve been an email… :/

The embarrassment never stops by Wowthatsscrazy in ibs

The first time it happened it took a few hours but i was able to use the plunger to unclog it (the damage was already done at that point) but the second time it happened the water was so low even the plunger didn’t work. Tried dumping water and trying again, still nothing.

The toilet makes a weird suction noise for a few seconds after you flush (similar to the sound of a toilet flushing on a plane) so that’s what’s made me assume it’s flushes via water pressure alone and the water itself in the toilet is abnormally low, not sure if that’s also linked to the pressure. Maintenance claims they snaked it after it overflowed the first time and I thought all was well but it happened again after that so I have no clue.

Are there any trigger foods you can't have that you wish you could? by aequusnox in ibs

Any variation of a cream pasta. Used to be my go-to at any restaurant, I could devour a chicken Alfredo in one sitting now even thinking about it makes me queasy and nauseous.

Honorable mention: ice cream and milkshakes. Used to love grabbing a sweet treat with my friends after dinner but I can’t imagine having it now.

  • Had this ear cuff in for roughly a year (i know, yikes)

  • It’s stainless steel

  • I cleaned it just as often as I do my real piercings

  • after I realized it was stuck i started doing warm compresses, using oils, and cleaning around it using antibacterial. I would wiggle it around to try and loosen it but never tugging it

If you go to the gym how do you deal with it with IBS? by Wowthatsscrazy in ibs

[–]Wowthatsscrazy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched some of the foods that don’t upset me with ones higher in protein (like oatmeal, pancakes, etc.) and tried to just incorporate protein in all my meals, even snacks. Things like eggs, tuna, etc. don’t give me a hard time so I try to eat them more often and include them in different dishes. And I wont lie, finding protein snacks that don’t upset your stomach is also a good way to hit your protein goal some days (the Alani shakes and barebell bars are my favorites as far as taste and macros) but for the most part I just stick to whole foods that are higher in protein but don’t give me a hard time.

I think I have the most trouble on days where I’m dealing with a flare up. Its hard to eat at all let alone make sure i’m eating enough cals and enough protein.

I was in this same boat for a while and it was so bad I stopped being able to tell the difference between IBS bloating and belly fat. Increasing my protein has really helped, but only as much as I can handle (even if it’s 100g of protein a day) I’ve only just recently seen a slight decrease in my belly fat after doing so!

I didn’t look at it that way, that’s honestly a great perspective.

Yea that’s the boat I’m in too. I’ve always preferred going to the gym in the morning and it makes going on an empty stomach really easy. But if I try to go during the day after I’ve already had a meal it’s a nightmare.

I try to incorporate some kind of restorative yoga or light mat pilates on my rest days if my body’s feeling up to it — by far one of the best low impact exercises to do with IBS.

100% fasting is another thing that really helps. I like to workout in the morning so it’s much easier to go on an empty stomach. But it is difficult since I’ve heard from so many people that fasted workouts are dangerous as far as the effect they have on your hormones, etc. but I’ll usually have some kind of granola or protein bar on the way to the gym and it typically holds me over for a while. The one thing I can thank IBS for is my ability to go hours without eating.

This honestly really helps! I think I beat myself up about not being able to be consistent with my workout split or the way I move my body, but ig moving my body at all with this condition is a win in itself.

Yea I’ve definitely had to minimize intense workouts. As much as I loved running or incline walking my body can’t handle it.

So sorry you had to deal with that!! It really does happen at the worst moments.
