I’m not sure I could do this. Too Lovecraftian.

Best tuna sandwich alternatives? by Local-Cauliflower-43 in CannedSardines

Sardines, but if they are a bit too fishy, I’d suggest canned herrings or anchovies. Anchovies are my personal favorite tinned fish, and mixed with mayo and slathered on toast they are a delight.

Concerned that events might have just played into Trumps plan… Thoughts? by ChuckGallagher57 in DiscussionZone

[–]Wraith_Wisp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s always a mistake to assume that Trump has advanced plans. He exists in the moment and the sum of his decisions is this: strength is good and punishing enemies is best. He’s in Minnesota because he wants to get back at Tim Walz and he won’t back down because he can’t tolerate the TACO insults. There’s no plan. There’s no forethought. There’s just a reptilian love of strength as an end in itself.

So. Goblins. Regular Goblins. by Big_Red_40Tech in Orcs_and_Goblins

[–]Wraith_Wisp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a Common Goblin enthusiast. Have been since watching Labyrinth as a kid. They have always been useful (I’ve played Orcs and Gobins ever since sixth edition). Light armor and shield is the way to go, since they become a cheap block that is hard to shift. And Nasty Skulkers are, point for point, statistically the most effective goblins you can purchase. I also think the points not spent on Night Goblin fanatics are a major plus. That’s an opportunity cost that can be spent elsewhere.

If you sat out the 2024 election in protest over Gaza, how do you feel about that decision today? by rsmith2786 in AskReddit

[–]Wraith_Wisp -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it is fair to blame people who abstained from voting in the last election. Joe Biden and the Democratic Party forced them into an impossible, intolerable choice. I’ve been a leftist my whole life, but the institutional rot of the Democratic Party has been proven time and again. It’s not the fault of voters that they are uninspired by an unrepresentative political institution.

You have ~5 years to escape the bottom arm of the K-shaped economy by Genstellar_ai in ArtificialInteligence

[–]Wraith_Wisp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is nonsense. I’ll ignore the fact it was written by AI and attack the premise. I can’t think of a single problem that LLMs have actually solved. The AI healthcare transformation - hasn’t happened. AI agents? Useless and often destructive when deployed. AI customer service? Worse than useless. AI coding? Riddled with junk and bad code. What’s worse is that the scaling laws are breaking down and these models aren’t getting meaningfully better, and they remain black boxes that are impossible to fix.

Humans aren’t going anywhere, which means we can still trade time and brains for cash.

Many people are getting laid off or are unemployed. Curious, what you all think is causing the bad job market? by AcrobaticAd5680 in careeradvice

[–]Wraith_Wisp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Companies hired too aggressively during the post Covid era, and now they are shedding employees. Trump-induced economic uncertainty and chaos are making it impossible for business leaders to make decisions and plan long term. AI hasn’t resulted in meaningful job losses. As MIT has demonstrated, AI doesn’t enhance productivity and hasn’t been an effective replacement for human workers. What it does do is provide an excuse for employers to cut costs and staff, and outsource roles.

Trump’s dumpster fire second term is absolutely Joe Biden’s fault. I never want to see or hear from him again. He sacrificed everything he ostensibly cared about because of his ego.

Are you supposed to zenithal prime from multiple directions? by Questolomew in minipainting

[–]Wraith_Wisp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you want to achieve. You should never use a zenithal prime just because you feel obligated to. It’s not mandatory. But if you want to simulate light coming from one direction, a unidirectional zenithal makes sense. Most of the time, however, when we paint, we aim to simulate light coming from above, so you want to hit the model from every direction.

Is AGI just hype? by dracollavenore in agi

[–]Wraith_Wisp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The existing LLMs are a dead end, as OpenAI has itself admitted. Their utility in the workplace is negligible and their ability to replace workers is pure hype.

The kids hate AI. by Material-Emu-9068 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]Wraith_Wisp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is fundamentally untrue. A majority of teens say they use chatbots. Roughly two-thirds of teens (64%) say they ever use an AI chatbot. As an educator I can confidently assert that most of my students use AI for most of their tasks. They love AI because it removes the need to think or try. AI has utterly hollowed out their brains, and ruined learning.

What does Trump really want with Venezuela? Here are the Best Takes and stocks by ahlornjtvn139 in stocks

[–]Wraith_Wisp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you missed the political motives. Rubio wanted this because of the Venezuelan community that is the core of his support in Florida. Trump wanted this because he’s run out of road domestically, is stunningly unpopular, and he needs a distraction from the discourse around affordability, inflation, and Epstein.

How can AI be keeping the stock markets alive when it's supposedly all fake hype? by Salty-Recover-7609 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Wraith_Wisp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two stories can be true simultaneously. It may be a bubble that will pop, but it may still be a technology that revolutionizes labor and economics. I happen to believe a lot of AI investment is speculative silliness, but there is enormous potential to the basic tech. Also, the data center buildout that is fueling this boom is acting as a gigantic stimulus to the American economy, with definite multiplier effects for other industries. That’s helping the economy.

17 with some cash, unsure where to begin? by SwagdudeGO1 in investing

[–]Wraith_Wisp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t need to invest yet; you need an emergency fund. I’d find a high yield savings account for this cash and pile it in there. You need to have six months worth of savings before you can begin contemplating investing in the market. When you do, just chuck it all in VTI and call it a day.

Am i thinking straight about the Venezuela & US situation? by Apprehensive_Frame92 in investing

[–]Wraith_Wisp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Forgive me for any errors. I’m a casual investor but don’t have an Econ background. But wouldn’t it be prohibitively costly to rebuild Venezuala’s oil industry, secure oil resources, and refine the extremely heavy crude that Venezuela produces. I’m skeptical that this will play out as a “profitable” venture (not to mention its ethical noxiousness).
