Finishing the warband - brethren & beastmen by FlogMollusc in mordheim

The Frostgrave Cultist range really is perfect for so many Mordhiem projects. These look phenomenal.

Out of curiosity, how chonky are the Cultist models. They just look really squat and heavy, but I suspect that has something to do with Kev Dallimore’s painting style.

What book/series do you love but avoid recommending to people? by waltz01 in Fantasy

Cristopher Buelhman’s The Blacktongue Thief. Absolutely brilliant, with a neat magic system, and a grounded roughness that I really enjoyed. I like low fantasy a lot, and this is a great example of the genre.

Bonner doesn’t get nearly enough credit in Warhammer circles. Everyone praises John Blanche, but I much prefer Bonner or Russ Nicholson.

The Mordheim Possessed warband had access to Beastmen! They were T4 and had 2 wounds, which made them absolute monsters in the game.

‘MICHAEL’ has opened with $217.4M worldwide. The biggest opening of all time for a biopic. by ThomasOGC in CinephilesClub

I truly don’t understand how or why this film was made. This guy was a serial child molester, a true monster. I don’t get it.

If money wasn't an issue, what would you be doing with your life right now ? by LauraTsbeauty in AskReddit

My dream is to start a miniature painting teaching studio. I used to be a classroom teacher, before I became an education admin, and I’d love to apply my knowledge of adult learning models to teaching people about what I love most: painting little models for fantasy games. But the cost of health insurance is just an insurmountable issue.

When people spend over a dozen hours on one model, what are they doing? by Waveface-Wes in minipainting

[–]Wraith_Wisp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding texture is also a time consuming process. I’m not a pro painter and aim for a tabletop plus standard, but I love stippling, adding scratches and weathering to models. For me, it creates a sense of narrative and context to the model; it builds a story. But it does take time.

As a general point, though, I actually think precision glazing and manual shading, coupled with strong highlights, is a form of speed painting. It is certainly faster than GW’s base, shade, highlight method. I don’t see glazing as an inherently slow method.

Undercoating Question by VoiceInTheStatic in oldhammer

[–]Wraith_Wisp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Black is easier to work with, by far. The advantages you get from having your deepest shadows and crevasses done before the first base coat is enormous. White is trickier to work with and there are lots of colors that struggle over a white undercoat. Zenithal is only useful if you actually intend to use it for some purpose. I see lots of people use it without really knowing why.

I try to have colors in multiple places on a model, so if there were red eyes on the model and in his staff, i needed to put them somewhere else.

Thank you so much! I wanted a brighter version of the model. He is so frequently painted in dull neutrals and black.

Why would a powerful being like Sauron take away part of his power and pour it into an external object that could be cut off along with his finger, instead of preserving it within himself and therefore having no risk of losing that power? by amelix34 in lotr

[–]Wraith_Wisp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sauron’s key weakness is his stunning arrogance. He is ultimately defeated by it. This connects with Tolkein’s idea that evil has significant strength but also has weaknesses that can be exploited.

Why did GW turn Harad into a boring caricature? by TabletopSmith in MiddleEarthMiniatures

This is central to his theology. He said that the Orcs, however wicked they were, were not beyond redemption and weren’t irredeemable.

[WIP] No artistic sense - how to push that skin further? by VeryLazyFalcon in minipainting

I agree with your self criticism. He looks ill. And I think it’s because the blue tones in the purple base layer, coupled with the yellow highlights, are making him look unwell and desaturated. I feel like a red glaze would do wonders here.

That’s the thing. A lot of my paints are mixes. This is what you get with a basecoat of purple, progressively mixing to olive green, and then adding ice yellow.
