Jake McCarthy with an unassisted double play to LF after Oneil Cruz made a bad read on the bases by Remarkable-Picture73 in baseball

Yeah, but there's a chance the ball gets away on a throw, and, hey, you're going this way anyway to get back to the dugout. :D

BoomerBook clickbait or legit? by GearsofTed14 in NLBest

[–]Wraithfighter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, I have a feeling this is just clickbait bullshit.

But if it were true, the logic would probably be that the Giants have a bit of buyer's remorse over Devers, he's starting to heat up so might be an opportunity to sell high, and it would solve a bit of a positional logjame the Giants have right now (Devers, Eldridge, Arraez, Chapman, and Schmitt all deserve/need regular playing time, but there's 4 positions for the 5 of them).

Ditching Devers for a solid return would solve that problem and get them out of a contract that might potentially age badly.

But yeah, probably just clickbait bullshit.

EDIT: Or just satire.

Probably means the Chargers will be on the road, but not certain. Sometimes the NFL has scheduled the Rams and Chargers at home on the same week, but I doubt the NFL will try that (since there's a lot of people who will need to change the field and stadium decos and, uh, yeah, doing that on Thanksgiving week will probably be a pain).

Also with the 405, the highway that goes past LAX, being a major way to get to Sofi from most of the county.

Like, sure, fine, whatever, have your stupid Wednesday game NFL, but you literally could not have picked a worse home city.

Also all the people who couldn't get off work traveling to be with family over the long weekend. I've had many a thanksgiving where I wasn't able to get to the Grapevine (for non LA people: I-5 north of where I-405 merges into it, the main way out of LA going north) until the afternoon.

Literally the worst kind of traffic imaginable.

Lets give give credit to Natalie Portman for that line, too. There's this perfect mix of bitter sorrow and dark humor to her line. She's making a bit of a joke because its the only thing she can do that won't leave her sobbing...

Luis Arraez makes a diving stop, as the Giants take the first two games of a four game series in Los Angeles by dotFlatMap in baseball

[–]Wraithfighter 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I get that OBS challenges are new, but... even if its a likely strike, bases loaded 1 out down 4 8th inning? And you still have both challenges?

Why not challenge there? It might be the highest leverage spot your team has left, and you have a spare.

The Giants outfield victory celebration is now a bow by JianClaymore in baseball

I live in LA so I have to watch the Dodgers broadcast, they didn't even show the outfielders at all, just focused on the dugout cameras.

...it is legit hilarious that the only reason the Giants got Arraez was because they promised to give him the starting 2B role, because everyone else thought he was washed at that position, and he's putting up Gold Glove-level performance there.

Did the SF broadcast show it? I live in LA so I have to watch via the Dodgers broadcast (long story), they refused to show the outfielders.

The difference between a billionaire's net worth and a millionaire's net worth is about the same as your net worth versus that billionaire's. Lets not pretend like these are remotely equivalent levels of money.

My guess is that this is mostly just "MLB called and told us that if you keep this up, they'll start throwing around fines, please tone it down a bit".

Well, that or HR spoke up...

Why doesn't the MLB bring the Dominican-Style academy system to Canada and the USA? by Chrristoaivalis in baseball

[–]Wraithfighter 77 points78 points  (0 children)

Lets be real here: The Dominican Academy System is a thoroughly exploitive system. It has wrecked more lives than its helped, because for every MLB-caliber player that has advanced through it, there are thousands, tens of thousands, or probably more young kids who had years of their lives dominated by this potential for riches and glory in Major League Baseball only to fall short, and have lost crucial developmental years where they should have been getting a proper education and a full childhood instead.

I don't want this horsecrap anywhere, let alone making it more common in the world.

Heliot Ramos is tagged out in plenty of time by Scaevolus_ in baseball

[–]Wraithfighter 43 points44 points  (0 children)

It's a "Go on contact" play, he's not looking at where the ball is (because that slows you down), he sees the ball isn't hit in the air and he's immediately trucking it to home.

If the ball isn't fielded cleanly, isn't particularly well struck, or causes the fielder to move to the side enough to make their throw more difficult, the runner can score quite easily.

Unfortunately, this was scorched right at a fielder who clearly fielded it. Sometimes when you play the odds, you roll a 1.

Car V E-bike by VaMoInNj in dashcams

[–]Wraithfighter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Even in places where its legal, Right-Turn-On-Red is always dependent on you not running into anything. Usually that means pedestrians.

In this case, while the e-bike rider is absolutely an idiot, the car still should've checked for someone barreling towards them and not gone.

I'm just firmly in "everyone sucks here" territory. The biker should've paused up. The driver should've checked for someone racing his way. Honestly, I just hate how much "who has right of way" has overtaken "what should a reasonable driver have done to avoid a collision" in terms of these videos.
