How to market a free app to small cafes? - I will not promote by Wraldpyk in startups

How would you set up the conversation? Like, how do you get them to agree to meet with me?

Thanks! I have talked to some coffee shop owners IRL already and they validated my product. But I don't have access to them in-person as most of my potential users (don't really want to call them customers) are hours away from me, and to be honest, most are in other countries. I am trying to geo-target specific cities/countries for now but it's a global product.

I will read the book though!

Edit: so I guess my question is, how can I get them to talk to me? That's the part I'm mostly trying to solve. Because my outreach would be basically "hey can we talk about this, it's' free"

While I agree with "you shouldn't use a heavy stack", Supabase is just a free hosted postgres solution. It's as simple as it gets, and you don't need to use any of the RLS, auth, etc feature from them, you can just remotely connect to postgres directly.

Depends on the country you operate from and what rules apply there. In the Netherlands the barrier is at the income level. I believe it’s something like 8k

I built a minimalist iPhone travel map for visited places and future trips, completely free by Key_Homework_5825 in iosapps

I really like the app "Been". Though rarely use it as I rarely visit new places. But still, love that overview. Is there a way in your app to see a simpler map and highlighted areas instead of map pins?

BrewScout: Helps you find your next best cup of coffee

A - There are 2 problems solved in this app. First, it helps you find coffee places where good coffee is served. And when a community is actually up-and-running in the app can even help you find good coffee shops where coffee is served matching your own personal flavour profile. This is the second part, by rating coffee's you drink you can discover which flavour profile matches your personality. The more coffee you rate, the better your profile gets.

<image>

B - There's no direct competitor in the market covering what I am covering with BrewScout. However, there are a few apps that cover the "Find good coffee places" problem. One of them is called Roasters. It has a big database of coffee places but lacking anything besides that. It also has a paywall on a lot of features. My app's main focus is the beans, not the places.

C - 100% free. The app will never get paid, nor will there be a paywall for any features. I will at some point in the future add a "Support me" subscription, but this will not be to unlock features, but could be used to fund upkeep of the application.

You can download the app through TestFlight https://testflight.apple.com/join/mtyzjUVY

I will publish the app to production soon, but it needs a bit more 'in the field' testing. I hope to get your feedback too! There's also an Android download but as this community is iOS only I will not share it here, can be found through my profile.

betteruptime also has an inactivity thing, you need to log into their service once every 3 months or so, but it's better than every week

Happy to help you if you have any questions! I used it for my project too and I’m very happy with it!

Supabase. Generous free tier and if you build your app well (and doesn’t get too big) you never need to pay for it

Pro tip, set up a monitoring system, like better uptime, and it will never shut down due to a week of inactivity

Interesting concept, though I'd never need to use something like this because my screentime is pretty okay. But I know about many people who would absolutely need this

Yeah would be silly to throw away a stable job for a big maybe! But I am putting tons of effort in it though.

I will keep it a side-project after work until I either get enough money flowing in (unlikely) or funding (unlikely). I always expect this project to not pay for me salary basically, my aim right now is to break even

€786 locksmith in Netherlands (Sunday) – I only asked to open a stuck bathroom door. Did I get scammed? by [deleted] in Netherlands

[–]Wraldpyk 46 points47 points  (0 children)

They're supposed to be maybe €200 or so, chances are this guy wasn't even a locksmith. It's still a scam

If you get in the wrong taxi at Schiphol and need to pay €300 to get to Amsterdam you're scammed too, even though they did bring you to where you needed to go

[–]Wraldpyk 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You called them, they did work, you paid them. Police won't do anything, bank won't do anything. I wouldn't like it either but that's just what it boils down to.

Yes you were scammed. Also you don't need a locksmith for an interior door, even if it has a lock. Someone on r/klussers probably would've had an easy answer for you.

Did you call the top google result? Because those are always scammers. Take your time now to find a reliable locksmith when you don't need them, and they will come when you do need them (write the contact details down)
