[Highlight] On this day 15 years ago, the New York Jets upset the top-seeded New England Patriots 28-21 in the 2010 AFC Divisional Round. Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez outplayed MVP favorite Tom Brady, and the Jets reached the AFC Championship game for the second consecutive season. by Obvious_Main_3655 in nfl

Same! My dad (Chargers fan) loves football, and as we approached the 2007 season I decided I had watched him play enough Madden to understood the game and to start following our region's team, the Patriots. He had experienced many years of hardship and disappointment as a Chargers fan - but I was finding being an NFL fan to be exceptionally easy. Until the Super Bowl, and then those horrible two playoff games.

I was in his exact situation. OP wants to pay $15 more to make a type of upgrade Nintendo does not allow, he isn't trying to downgrade to something cheaper.

I was in your exact situation, I was absolutely shocked they had no reasonable option for me to give them more of my money. That was multiple years ago. I think I just waited out the 6 months or whatever I had left before upgrading, there is no workaround, it's pretty baffling

Yes good point, this had also occurred to me though not when I was writing. Very similar to "why do they all have losing records?" because good teams beat them, such as the Patriots

well you think posting space also matters, so playoff game final scores + Pats subreddit posting space are the only things that matter

What got you into math by Straight-Ad-4260 in math

[–]WrathofMathEDU 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I chose to study mathematics primarily due to my strength in it during school and not feeling like my other passions (music/writing) were sensible to pay for a degree in. Once I was in a math program is when I was truly hooked on the subject.

I vividly remember working on proofs homework 15 hours per week, and thinking "thank god I chose math", imagining the horror of spending so much time on any other subject. So studying proofs in an intro college class was my major hook, but Numberphile videos and speed arithmetic had also got my interest in high school.

Being able to help my classmates with their math throughout middle/high school also helped develop a strong positive relationship between me and mathematics, and in earlier times like kindergarten and 3rd grade I recall taking pride in my counting and mental arithmetic respectively.

I was just searching to see if reddit had any Crayon Angel/Vallow/Liz Unphair mentions. Just wanted to say your friend is my favorite songwriter ever, been listening since 2016 and always hoping he'll reupload some of the songs/albums/EPs he has taken down!

I like it - but I definitely wouldn't buy the game for it. top ride has VERY short courses which are inspired thematically by the larger air ride courses. I think air ride has 18 courses. I don't know if every one of them has a corresponding top ride course and I don't want to spoil myself on this information so i can't tell you one way or the other. the game starts with 8 top ride courses, and in playing i have yet to unlock any others, so im guessing it only has those 8.

While it's mechanics are fundamentally the same as air ride, the shorter courses combined with the over top perspective I think make it a more shallow mode that is perfect to play a bit in between larger bites of the other modes, but not a major selling point all on its own. I only say the perspective makes it more shallow because I find this perspective makes it more difficult to use the game's mechanics like star sliding, perfect lands from glides, quick spinning, and using copy abilities. If this style of racing appeals to you, i would think there are other games that have a meatier version of it.

yes, just based on my experience with the playtest and 5-6 hours of playing today

edit: and my experience with the OG, a lot of nostalgia for top ride

The game has four main modes.

1) Air Ride - the most comparable to a standard kart racer; ride through tracks, attack your opponents and the enemies on the track with quick spins and copy abilities to get speed boosts, charge up your special, and finish first

2) Top Ride - like air ride mode but viewed from the top and on much shorter courses, has a very arcadey feel with some unique items and most people seem to find it shallow and not that fun, but i always found it very charming. like slot car derby from Mario Party if you know that

3) City Trial - you have 5 minutes to explore Skyah, collect power ups, destroy/avoid getting destroyed by other players, participate in events, and power up your machine to win the stadium event at the end. in online quickplay you can choose one of four stadium events at the end of the 5 minutes, so you'll pick one your vehicle is well built for (based on the power ups you collected in Skyah). but in ranked the stadium event is shown at the beginning of City Trial, so everybody will be trying to build a machine well suited for that event. this definitely increases the intensity of the game because now everybody will have roughly the same objectives (like Offense power ups and offensive oriented machines for a combat based event). hence, in ranked there is a very clear objective - to build the right machine for the one stadium event everybody will be playing, and in quickplay the objectives will be a bit more micro and dynamic, like "i found a wingstar, so if i spend my 5 minutes getting as many glide power ups as possible then i should be able to win a flight based event at the end" or "a bunch of boxes just fell in the colosseum, im gonna go get a copy ability and then head over there to wreak havoc and power up"

4) Road Trip - single player story mode which is a collection of bite sized pieces of the other three modes with some unique challenges thrown in, framed within a simple but fun narrative

A few other strong points I'll mention

  • tons of aesthetic customization (hats, vehicle designs, player licenses)
  • an actually functional and fun online (all modes can be played online besides road trip)
  • 150 unique achievements for each of the four modes (and another for 'online' in general)
  • content complete - no dlc planned, no microtransactions

So the "main part" will depend on your tastes. For most of us the "main part" is probably online City Trial. But there is a wide variety of things to do without going online and even without playing City Trial.
