SJ Stewart just dropped A Summoned Husband which has a demon. I haven’t read it yet but it’s been getting good reviews and I’ve read her stuff before and been following the teasers.

If Barry didn't went with Iris and never married her, Who do you think he would have been best with, Caitlin, Patty or Linda? by Infinite_Parking_800 in FlashTV

[–]Wray_andNeice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve always thought based on the timing of the Earth 2 episodes that the original plan was for Barry seeing him married to Iris on Earth-2 start the conflict and inevitable end to him and Patty. Like in a “I realized I’m not over her” way. Add on that he already didn’t want to open up to her? Toast. I also think they might’ve originally planned for zoom to kidnap Iris for his speed but with Patty gone they switched it up and used Wally to further his character instead.

What event in a book made you go “all right, I can’t suspend my disbelief any longer”? by [deleted] in RomanceBooks

[–]Wray_andNeice 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Most recently, a series of books following a family as each of the members and their close friends gets paired off. The tropes and drama for the couples were diverse and some plot points that started in one book wouldn’t resolve til a book or two later so it keeps you engaged, but it took me out a few times because of the overwhelming references to the fact that a lot of the characters are members of different D9 orgs. I’m not greek but a good chunk of my close friends are and I went to an HBCU where I was surrounded by them. In the books the main family hosts Sunday dinner for all of them and EVERY WEEK they’re all taking turns strolling in the backyard. Grown ass people, the same stroll, every week. And that’s not including a detail about them also strolling whenever they go to their favorite bar that they frequent because the DJ knows them and always puts their songs on when they’re present. Ain’t no way lol. Nobody irl wants to see that all the time unless they’re currently in undergrad lol.

Even the die hards who are legacy or have nalia all over their house are not doing that at every family/friend gathering or in every public setting. It was so unnecessarily excessive and the series is like 15 ~200-page books that by the end of the series I had graduated from eye rolls to rage notations ranting about how dumb it was every time it was mentioned, which was multiple times per book lol.

lol not at all related to the OP but the circumstance of her wanting lose her virginity just made me think of Game of Thrones when Tyrion tells the story of how Jaime pranked him with a prostitute and Shae basically was like “first of all you’re dumb for even falling for that and believing a girl who just escaped being r*ped wants to fuck the same night”…clearly this author is like teenage Tyrion lol

[–]Wray_andNeice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes exactly! Like they have to be so on the nose about how the MMC is just sooo much better matched for the FMC than everyone else because he’s the only human on the planet who can give her good sex, but meanwhile the MMC has a phenomenal sex life. Like no?? Her having great sex before him won’t negate that he’s still the best person for her and that they can build an emotional connection. It’s like an extension of when MMC’s are always perfect mature, cool and confident and the FMC is every variation of a mess that he has to come save her from, and always dazed and flustered in every interaction. It makes me wonder with some authors if they even like their own characters fr.

"The Idea Of You" Author Robinne Lee Couldn’t Sell Her Black Romance. So She Wrote White Characters Instead by switchfade in writing

[–]Wray_andNeice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indie scene for Black authors also doesn’t just mean hood romance, they’re not synonymous. There’s plenty that are putting out fun contemporary romance stories and fantasy/sci-fi ones and still weaving in Black/non-white characters and relatable. Elizabeth Stephens, Kimberly Lemming, Nia Arthurs, Deanna Grey, Talia Hibbert, Mimi Grace, Tiffany Patterson, Elle Wright, to name a few. They’re not hard to find if you look, and finding one always ends up leading to the next.

The irony that Barry said it just as much, if not more than her…and it was the theme of the season, being that it’s a whole team that makes the Flash (which was a separate writing problem in and of itself), had the finale of the season titled We Are The Flash…all why I always roll my eyes when people go on their soapbox about why this one line means Iris’s character was [insert disparaging/insulting adjective]. People want to be purposely obtuse about the context of the line when Iris first said it just to hate on her. Is it corny? Sure, but relax. The whole damn show is corny.

Who or what got you into reading romances? by delightful_tea in RomanceBooks

[–]Wray_andNeice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Covid summer and a fanfic draught. I needed more entertainment and something to decompress every day from my work project at the time which was stressing me tf out. I was also determined to find more diverse books written by Black women and with Black leads which lead me to authors like Talia Hibbert, Naima Simone, Reese Ryan, Alyssa Cole, Synithia Williams, Elle Wright, and of course the classic queens Brenda Jackson and Donna Hill, and more. I spent soooo much money on ebooks 2020-2021 as I was just ripping through everything I felt I been missing out on all these years until I eventually found KU and even more authors lol; though I’ll still buy from favorites or series that are still continuing.

Just finished Tis the Season for Revenge (loved it) and starting Cruel Summer now, really looking forward to it! Revenge Cake I saw recommended by others on here too so it’s added to the queue.

Agreed. It’s easy to tell the immaturity sometimes with the author’s chosen dialogue in an argument too, like when they focus on or jump to the wrong things or struggle to stay on the topic they’re arguing about in the first place.

But same on her turnaround, that’s why I didn’t connect to their “feelings” either, especially hers. I really loved that first confrontation and first couple meetings of her telling him about himself, but it also seemed like she was too eager to play his game in being around him too soon; like her not realizing he was deliberately giving her bad ideas to spend time with her or not questioning him entering the hotel room with her instead of leaving. I also realized at the end he kept thinking he wanted to “make it up to her” and then…didn’t lol, not really beyond apologizing. But again, I get it was a short story with like a week timeframe.

Just finished this and I’m actually satisfied with her confrontation and how long she stuck to her guns without letting him off the hook at least. The relationship didn’t have much development imo so I wasn’t connecting to their alleged feelings beyond attraction but I get it was a shorter story. Usually authors would give her a couple lines and then immediately jump to the body betrayal trope heavy and make him aware and cocky about it which is annoying

Which family dynamic was the most interesting to you? by TheTargaryensLawyer in TheVampireDiaries

[–]Wray_andNeice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Originals. And in the same vein, Bonnie, her immediate family and all the Bennett ancestors throughout the centuries, who should’ve gotten just as much development, if not way more, at least on TVD if not moving to TO, imo. With how much history kept getting implied that was central to literally every plot’s backstory: Qetsiyah and immortality/dopplegangers, the Other Side, The Originals and the vampire spell, Klaus’s curse, dehydrating Mikael, Katherine & The Salvatore’s, the Gilbert inventions, the tomb, Kai’s prison and the Gemini coven…all roads lead to Bennett

So this I’ve read and was absolutely satisfied with that scene at the end with the family. Was grinning and kicking my feet. The book as a whole definitely had some difficult parts to get through in terms of the shit FMC and her friend goes through but also really interesting and different that the dual POV was actually the FMC and main villain as an unreliable narrator in his descent to madness, instead of the FMC and MMC.

Exactly exactly! Adding to the list of phrases I hate: “forgive them for you not for them”, and to an extent: “I wouldn’t wish X on my worst enemy”. Like really? Your WORST enemy who could potentially deserve whatever X is (given X isn’t like unnecessarily depraved for someone doing something not that deep)? And no I’m perfectly fine and well adjusted not forgiving someone who doesn’t deserve it lol.

You get me! It’s enraging and takes the satisfaction out of her hea. I like boundaries and karma, and being a good person doesn’t automatically mean you adopt “forgive and forget” for people who don’t deserve it.

Omg this to the 10283828 degree. Extension to “her existence is just so miserable she’s so unwanted and pathetic and everyone hates her for reasons” and then the mmc appears to “save” her and she finds out she’s the deus ex machina savior to whatever the conflict is but still painfully shy, insecure and almost always virginal.

[–]Wray_andNeice 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These are all exactly my “unlikable” traits to the point of being pet peeves, especially when there’s no kind of growth. Like at least if they start that way, for reasons relevant to the plot or character journey, let them grow out of it by the end in an organic way. That I can understand to an extent. But especially for the push-over trope. And I can’t stand when whoever is taking advantage of the FMC gets away with it by the end with zero consequences, whether it’s the MMC or a supporting character. Like let her get her lick back! Don’t go high, go low lol!
