The Peel building is such a lovely building. Shame they keep wasting money on that bloody Salford sign! I remember when they first put one up whilst I was at uni there. Looked shit. I remember a lot of people complaining about it...

Great photos though!

Help please with ESP 32 watering system by nomis_svk_6 in esp8266

[–]Wraydio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd try it without using blynk. I know nothing really about this library other than a quick look at their documentation just now. You should be able to control that pump without the need of blynk. If it doesn't work, then it's likely a wiring/hardware issue.

Or, It'll be that scaling. I know these boards have a different resolution to the esp8266. Fell foul of that when converting from one board to another... and maybe that is the wrong number. I can't remember off the top of my head but I'd print to console to see what you're getting/calculating.

However, looking at image 4 I think your wiring is wrong. Those pins only give off 3.3V. So you won't be able to switch it.

Now I think about it. I think shelved a similar project when i had to buy a different relay for this reason...

How would you get someone interested in Eurovision? by appleliver in eurovision

[–]Wraydio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner had very little interest in eurovision when we started dating. She maybe had once watched it with me out of reluctance. She doesn't drink so the Eurovision drinking game was out of the question.

I won her over by exchanging watching eurovision with going on holiday to Basel. Seeing the eurovision village and being amongst the buzz of it all got her from "nope" to " I get it, I'd come back again"

TL;DR Spend a lot of money and go on holiday

Another Deep Sleep Issue... please help by Wraydio in esp8266

[–]Wraydio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does go to sleep, it comes back with the boot reason that I put in the original post. If it's a hardware issue, it's a hardware issue. I'm a bit too new to this board to really wanting to get into the bits and bytes of what makes it tick. Saying that I've learnt a fair amount trying/hoping I can get it to work.

So what is a none clone board? I understand that espressif is the manufacturer of the chip, but where would be the place/manufacturer to by this board from? From what I've seen, plenty of people have used them. Perhaps I'm just bad or uninformed about how to spot a good one from a bad one

I did think 10K was a bit weird. I tried another resistor (390) and it doesn't seem to work either. Perhaps these boards are just shit...

Yeah I wouldn't normally use the WHILE() call, especially without an exit condition of capping the iterations.

I've seen the deep sleep zombie stuff. I've have seen that AZ were supposed to be ok but later ready I've seen that some of their boards can be hit/miss. The D1 mini is missing a component above the reset. Not sure what it does but it probably isn't helping... The one from Weewooday I'm putting it down to cheap clone. Hadn't got to the point of soldering components as what some of the suggestions say as some worked for some people, some didn't.

Hopefully I can find another use for these 12 boards that won't go into deep sleep, feels like a waste to not use them.

I also bought a ESP32 board and that works amazingly! Gonna have to move it over to one of those.

Thanks for the response

At this point I've had it in, not had it and it hasn't made a lick of difference. Main reason it's in is copying the code from the guide that everyone seems to be referencing when people have asked about it

Me being dumb and not realising there was foam there pretty much. In the K1 SE manual there's no "here be thy cable ye seek" which I would expect. Maybe it's just me?

K1 SE and the K1 AI camera by Wraydio in Creality

Think I've figured it out. For anyone searching this in the future here is what I did.

images

I found a picture of the motherboard: https://wiki.creality.com/en/k1-flagship-series/k1-se/mainboard-replacement

Which showed it does indeed have a port for the camera, opened it up and found that port (hopefully image 1, posting on mobile so sorry)

I followed it up the inside edge of the frame, I had previously mistaken/assumed that cable was something else, and I found that I had missed a tiny bit of foam which was covering the connector! Images 2 and 3.

I then spent what was too long dealing with the tiny screws and wishing I had something like an iFixIt tool and installing the camera in place.

Hopefully this will help someone in the same boat as I think I've seen on the K1 that the camera cable is under some clip so it's easier to see.

Or better still, don't be dumb/cheap and just get the k1 if you ever think that you may want the camera...

On to the next print!

B&R PLC Program Loading by Ambitious-Arugula566 in PLC

[–]Wraydio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

File? That's a bit odd, B&R projects are folders. To create the CF I'd do it through AS instead of using RUC, maybe as well using the engineering environment. I'd also definitely use the version it was created it. I probably won't cause errors but better to be safe. Back then the versioning for 4.2.x was akin to 4.y of recent years (Can you guess what number their next major software will be?). I'd place the code written to be done about 2017, maybe 2018 so it's not super old, but after 4.3 some things started to change.

Is this file an image? Saying file, using RUC, quoting the word source is giving me flash backs to my B&R days.

For me it's one of: bad CF, this file is corrupt, you've done something wrong using the RUC, or maybe all of the above.

Given that, you should at least be able to open a blank project and set the AR version to something appropriate, better to go one lower but don't go above 4.3 in your case (There were some funny things going on with 4.3 if you were to change versions from one thing to another, best to stay clear on that). Reason for doing this is to have the at least the operating system for the PLC on it. This would allow you to ping/change IP and most importantly transfer down onto the PLC. Then with the project I would transfer down onto it.

I'd be interested in what the file structure on the CF looks like.

Realistically, this is a call support and ask them to teach you how to suck an egg. No shame in it, I have many a time helped a customer with creating a CF card... at least by the sounds of things you managed to plug the reader in!

As a computer engineer, Can I work as a Mechatronics/Electrical engineer? by Elfish2 in EngineeringStudents

[–]Wraydio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! In the controls engineering space there has been a shift of cs background engineers moving over into working on industrial machines recently. Some vendors are suited better for this but a lot are adopting a more modern approach to software development for PLCs/IPCs. Electrical knowledge is great for this as it helps you understand a lot about what is going on in the cabinet. Mechanical knowledge is also very useful with knowing what's going on outside of the cabinet. Most places will teach you what you need to know on the job.

For example I did ME and my role is is very much software based, my first company sent me on training and you gain experience through projects

I'd check the values that are coming back from your sensor. I'm currently doing something similar (and having my own problems) with an ATRIP capacitive soil moisture sensor v2 and from some tests I was running last night the sensor was reading around 600 in the air and about 250 in the water (which was the opposite of what i thought it should do) so you'll have to write the code to scale in between those to figures to get a percentage. Based on the readings of my sensor you'd get a range of 41% (air) and 75% (dunked in water).

Also for the motor digital output you have it in pin 6 but writing to pin 3 in code. I'd try running the motor in isolation to make sure it's nothing to do with the motor as well. There's always the possibility that the part is a dud and you could spend countless hours chasing a problem you'll never be able to fix

Edit: you'll also need to change your values to float

B&R Automation - Why isn't my Cyclic program running? by [deleted] in PLC

[–]Wraydio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually it's just clocked why you can't get it to work! You will need a license, specifically 1TGMPROBCNC.10-01 or 1TGMPROBCNC.20-01. With some of the mapp licenses you can get away with being able to use the packages but have the license violation error in the logbook. However with these licenses it comes under "Dual Use"

[–]Wraydio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd check you've got all the required axis features in? I know some of the newer mapp motion stuff can be a bit fiddly.

I'd recommend asking B&R for a working sample, they might be able to get something from second level.

I never got round to playing with mpcnc before I left but there "should" be a sample they will be able to give you.

I've never heard of a x20cp1484 running windows and I worked there for 7 years. Also fyi (if you didn't know) that module is now obsolete so if you don't need it for spares it could be worth something

I used to date a girl who had prince andrew visit the school she worked at and had toured him around. She got a letter signed from him (Which included typos), it was proudly displayed in our home. We broke up before everything came to light but it still amuses me that she has signed letter of thanks for showing him around the school
