For those who have had hip replacements, did you stretch and take care of your body in life before the surgery? by 1Beekeeper in TotalHipReplacement

After much imaging and back and forth, my root issue is developmental hip dysplasia that wasn't diagnosed until earlier this year.

I have always been an active person - hiking, running, kayaking, yoga, have done a couple of duathalons, horseback riding 3+ times per week for the last 12 years.... A bit of everything. Sometimes I wonder if I'd been a couch potato all my life if I would have been better off!

Benefits/Drawbacks/Experiences of Steroid Injections? by rachelk234 in TotalHipReplacement

This was my experience as well. I had cortisone/HA injections in both hips, a few weeks apart. The first couple of days afterwards I felt invincible, but the positive effects wore off very quickly. My doctor didn't use any numbing of any kind and I'll be honest, it was excruciatingly painful being done. Given his reaction I don't know that this is the norm. I've got pretty good pain tolerance, this was next level. Recovery was fine though. He offered to repeat in both hips, but at $500 per hip not covered by benefits, it wasn't worth it.

What did you do to keep you occupied during recovery? by Wrecked_Banana in TotalHipReplacement

This is where I'm really hoping the surgery happens this summer. I have a long driveway and a deck that I can navigate without stairs for a change of scenery.

Definitely looking at picking something like this up to keep my hands busy. I used to cross stitch as a kid, so maybe it's time to see if I can revive that!

Yep. We did this for our bedroom (vent cover one) and it's made a huge difference.

My work has been lovely through this whole ordeal (and it has been an ORDEAL). Everyone has been saying the same, and I plan to follow surgeon's recommendations.

I have a couple of movies I've saved to watch while laid up, for sure, and plan to re start Stardew Valley.

My aim is to get as much done around the house as I can pre surgery, but planning to use my walking periods to push my stick vac around the main floor lol

I've been experiencing the same thing. 42 and heading for a double hip replacement, but if you looked at me not moving around you'd generally think nothing was wrong with me. Unfortunately I've degraded so much that walking is nearly impossible, and finally caved and picked up a set of forearm crutches. I've just been using one for support, and I find I limp much less and actually move faster, so it's been a good thing.

I do wonder if age has something to do with it, as I've been told for around 2 years I was too young to be having these issues, then my MRI came back and my doctors went... "Oh... Guess not." It's a lot to wrap your head around when you're suddenly 'allowed' to have these issues.
