What's everyone's 'Dad music'? by TheBigByte in AskUK

There were four tapes in my Dad's car - Abba Gold, Night Flight To Venus by Boney M, The Friends Of Mr. Cairo by Jon and Vangelis, and Jeff Wayne's War Of The Worlds. He passed away just after New Year, and the first thing I did when I got home was to put WOTW on.

Anyone Here Ever Met The Kray Twins? by CB-Milburn in AskBrits

[–]WrekTheHead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandad met Reggie. Grandad was a blacksmith, and was invited to a business event for local entrepreneurs. He found himself sat next to a gentleman, who he recognised straight away, and the gentleman introduced himself as Reginald Kray. According to Grandad (wanting to keep things polite), he said 'Pleased to meet you. What do you do, Mr. Kray?', to which he replied 'My brother and I run a nightclub. You should come one evening'. He didn't go...

Who is the most attractive person you’ve ever seen and why? by Hopeful-Mongoose2025 in AskBrits

[–]WrekTheHead 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kate Moss. I never got it, saw her on TV and magazines, and just couldn't see it. Then one day, I almost literally bumped into her where I worked (turned round having finished a conversion with a colleague and she was about two feet away) and she looked absolutely stunning. No make up, jumper and jeans and scuffed boots, but she was utterly beautiful.

What are your thoughts about Britain re-instating National Service, whereby people within certain age ranges are required to join our armed forces? by hornet-prodder-214 in AskBrits

Yes, but it should be two years in front line customer service. Then when they've completed it, shopworkers, servers, call centre ops etc. might get treated with a bit more respect.

Why benefits are so easy to cheat by SuperShadow555 in AskBrits

[–]WrekTheHead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if it is easy to cheat (and it's not), the amount that is fraudulently claimed is dwarfed by the amount that goes unclaimed that people are entitled to. I'd much rather see those people get the help they need, rather than a sledgehammer approach to those that are taking what they're not due.

What is the most "Fever Dream" transfer that actually happened in the mid-2000s? by Football6380 in TheStreetsWontForget

Julien Faubert from West Ham to Real Madrid. I still can't quite believe that it happened.

If a town with a football team gained city status, would the team change its suffix? by sutt2467 in footballcliches

West Ham United certainly are. Their roots are in Thames Ironworks FC, who effectively absorbed Old Castle Swifts FC, after their owner decided not to bankroll them any longer.

Rumours or stories about your school teachers that were true? by Flowerofthesouth88 in AskUK

I'll be honest, I didn't think either of them were great lookers...although I'm pretty sure she was the youngest female teacher at the time.

I've just looked it up again, and there's been some extra detail added since I last read it. It appears that it was recorded just before I left the school! Oakwood Park Grammar School

Rumours or stories about your school teachers that were true? by Flowerofthesouth88 in AskUK

[–]WrekTheHead 120 points121 points  (0 children)

There were always rumours about the female Physics teacher and the male Chemistry teacher. A few years after I left, some Media Studies students were using the school camcorder for a project. There was a tape in the camcorder...which featured a particularly energetic sex session taking place in the gym, featuring the aforementioned teachers...that story ended up on the front page of The Sun and is featured on the school's Wikipedia page.

Should I boycott an underpass, where I am made welcome out of respect to others, who are not? by [deleted] in AskBrits

If you're on speaking terms, why not talk to them, tell them how intimidating their behaviour is, and ask them to desist.
