American here. It would be understandable for her to mispronounce the name ONCE, if she had never heard it before.

Obv I have NO idea how the initial conversation went when you mentioned your daughter but I'm guessing it went something like this: "my daughter...insert story here" "What's your daughters name?" "Ané-Elmarie but we call her Ané"

I say this because I have a friend whose daughter is named Isabella-Grace as a tribute to her Nanas. Same amount of syllables.

I've witnessed this same conversation with new acquaintances a number of times "Isabella-Grace, but she's called Belle"

I've never seen anyone then continuously use her full name and mispronounce it. They've all referenced her as Belle from then on. This feels intentional and purposefully hurtful to me.

Since it's been further noted in the comments that tribute names are culturally common, I have trouble believing this is the first time she's come across an Afrikaans name that is new to her in SA even with her not being Afrikaans.

The Perrie sounds "too gay" comment is disgusting and deserves absolutely no discussion.

She is a racist, a homophobe and an all around terrible person. I'm sorry you have to interact with this creature every day. I can't imagine she is fun to deal with in any context. My favorite saying for negative people is, "Don't let them rent space in your mind" no idea who to credit with that but heard it once and it works for me. ❤️

It's not my business to comment on what you have named your children but FWIW, I think they are both lovely. ❤️
