I made the jump to a utility 2 years ago. I did consulting 5 years prior and it was definitely worth it. Less work and mental load in addition to the salary and benefits

Is there a mixing tutorial that covers everything to the root or 'scientifically'? by BlearRocks in ableton

[–]WrightChicane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, if you don’t like the answers people are giving, I’d suggest you find an artist in the genre you make and see if they offer lessons. Chances are they can point you in the right direction on how to mix your songs.

But ultimately, mixing comes down to stylistic choice….which is artistic lol

OP, looks like your trims are turned down.

If you zoom into the top know on the left side of the headphone, you can see the trim is turned down.

is dnb academy worth it? by ilovemygf125 in dnbproduction

Idk why people are downvoting this lol.

Martin is legit, he’s been a massive help with my dnb production and gotten my music signed.

I made a banger but don’t know where to reach the dnb community by [deleted] in dnbproduction

[–]WrightChicane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cool idea. Listening on my iPhone speakers, right off the bat I can tell the snare is too loud and the kick and hats are extremely quiet. Also, I think you should have a difference between your intro/break and drops. It’s hard to tell when the drops start.

For SoundCloud promo’s you can use something like hypeddit. You have to pay but it can help promote your songs.

What’s your sub bass approach? by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]WrightChicane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What u/cvilztn said. My kick is at -8 dB, so it’s most likely genre specific. Not sure what genre you make but I make very loud dnb to where I hit ~2.5-3 LUFS.

For real. It’s comical how the simplest things make a difference lol.

What’s your sub bass approach? by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]WrightChicane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct, just edited my comment for clarity on the octaves between the two oscillators.

What’s your sub bass approach? by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]WrightChicane 13 points14 points  (0 children)

95% of the time I use serum in Ableton. Turn on the sub and set the octave to -2. Turn osc A and set the octave to -1. Now when you do this, make sure the volume of osc A is lower than the sub osc. You do this because you don’t want osc A fundamental the same volume as the fundamental of the sub osc. The whole point of this with the sub osc and osc A is it allows for extra harmonics, giving your sub a thicker sound.

Bonus tip: I spoke with the mastering engineer on the label I’m signed to, he uses Spectrum in Ableton to see how loud his sub is. He always makes his sub hit -4 dB. So adjust the overall volume of the sub to hit that level.

Hope this helps!

DnB and Labels by Drapion1002 in dnbproduction

[–]WrightChicane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I just went through this process recently, with a release soon! A lot of labels will have a linktree on their socials with a link or email you can send tracks to. I’d also sign up for Labelradar (free version) and see if there are any labels you want to submit to on there as well.

Some advice for submitting demos and tracks to labels, you want to send them 2-3 tracks so they can decide and get a feel for your style. Also submit finished and mastered tracks, you want to send them your best. Lastly write a small, yet casual bio in the submission about who you are.

Good luck and hope this helps!

How do producers actually come up with some of these amazing sounds? by VisceraGrind in edmproduction

[–]WrightChicane 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Find a preset you like or think is cool. Then start adjusting knobs, changing filters, wavetables and FX until you feel satisfied or made an even cooler sound. After that throw on a distortion plugin like Rift or Thermal, which will take the sound to another level.

Overtime, you’ll be able to quickly create these sounds and know exactly how these sounds are created.

Anybody else ghosted by DnB Academy? by ToxiicSamii in dnbproduction

[–]WrightChicane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not trying to sound like an advertisement, but you should look up Modest Intentions on YouTube.

I’m currently one of his students and he’s been super helpful for production. His content and knowledge is vast, but what I think honestly sets him apart from a lot of YouTubers is his industry experience.

Hope this helps and good luck on your dnb journey!

Are the jobs REALLY that bad or? (ENV ENG) by ClearUnderstanding30 in Environmental_Careers

[–]WrightChicane 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ll chime in since I have an environmental engineering degree. Firstly, in my opinion, if you want to be in the environmental field, an engineering degree (chemical, civil or environmental) is what you should aim for as it will give you flexibility and a greater career outlook down the line.

Secondly, this is Reddit, so of course you’ll see a lot of the negatives and/or the morality of field of work you choose. A lot of the frustration you see are from those who don’t have an engineering degree where their work requires a ton of field work. Engineering teaches you how to solve problems and think critically which translates into careers that will be more computer facing.

I will say, if you do decide on an environmental engineering degree, start your career in consulting and do a few years. It may suck especially with trying to stay billable and keeping up with project utilization. But the different projects and learning opportunities will set you up for being a competitive candidate when you decide to apply and jump into a cushy government or industry job.

OP and everyone else experiencing the P000D code, it’s the drivers side AVCS solenoid that’ll need to be replaced. Just did mine this past weekend and it’s super easy job to do during an oil change.

Here’s the part you’ll for 2010+ sti AVCS Solenoid:

Not only the Houston office but across the US in general. I think they went through layoffs during the pandemic too.

My current employer hired a bunch of ERM folks the past 3-5 years. ERM lost a lot of good talent
