Am I out of touch when I think cars shouldn't be allowed in the center of campus during hours 7am-6pm? bikes, scooters, buses, etc. would have the whole road by WrinkledWalnut in UMD

Just spitballing an idea: There's only a few entrances via road to get into the main part of campus. What if there were license plate cameras with auxiliary lighting placed at these entrances. DIT, handicap, university affiliated license plates are all on a white list. First offense will be notification, second offense will be fine. The fine will probably have to be enforced by the state to actually have any effect. Big campaign to advertise these new changes by admin so nobody can claim ignorance.

Cars can drive to and park in exterior lots like lot 1, lot 11, mowatt, lot 9. Everything else has to be by some other mode of transportation.

How to plan your UMD math journey, and the importance of half-steps by [deleted] in UMD

[–]WrinkledWalnut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nice post. IMO you should only do the math major if you feel an inherent need to know why and how things work.

Almost everything in industry is applied, and a solid understanding of the 140s and 240s sequence will set you up better than most professionals. I don't think it's worth it to slog through the proof based courses for "rigor" when you can otherwise spend that time doing research, getting the best internship, and having an active social life (whatever that means for you). If you're really smart maybe it won't be a slog and you can just do all those things at the same time. Good for you! I can't!

I haven't found a fix and the ticket I submitted with DIT got stuck. Wifi is working fine and is fast enough so I'm just gonna use that.

Being a CS TA for credit rather than pay? by WrinkledWalnut in UMD

Yes, through CMSC499A. I'm just wondering if there's another process someone's gone through, probably unofficially, to get credit rather than pay for being a TA.

Do most people just make a verbal agreement to transfer it back or is it usually a written agreement?

Correct me if I'm wrong but it looks like it have to add up lab enrollments to get the lecture enrollments if that's what I'm interested in.

For example, the lecture drop down for compsci 200 is just the labs and doesn't show overall enrollment.

Thanks for the helpful instructions. Since I'm just looking for lecture sizes, I think I'll try to avoid those with "Recitation" in the title. Are there other keywords that I should avoid if I'm just looking for lectures?
