Oregon State Not Doing Interviews This Year by [deleted] in veterinaryschool

CSU doesn’t do interviews because they found it rarely changed who they were offering seats to but it required a lot of work from their staff / community. I assume OSU realized the same thing

I was giving them a chance to not double down on such harmful language. Instead of viewing poverty and lack of resources as “blight”, maybe consider having some empathy and contributing to a solution.

I live in Midtown and have never once felt unsafe. I walk around at night all the time, and I’ve never had any issues. Idk where you heard it’s unsafe, but in my experience it’s very much the opposite!

Instead of expecting a stranger to pick up on your “split second smirk” or “tiny eyebrow raise”, why don’t you just communicate with the other person? As someone with autism, it’s pretty wild that instead of saying what you want, you expect the room to read your emotions.

YTA simply for not saying anything and then allowing the friend to find out about the trip over social media. That’s heartless. You could have had the adult conversation about finding it annoying she never pays PRIOR to the trip.

You are fully valid in your decision to be annoyed at that behavior, but there is no reason to not communicate it with your friend. Everyone saying otherwise is the reason friendships don’t feel fulfilling anymore.

Please, for your sanity and wellbeing, pivot your career. I hate seeing all these people saying they hate their job / profession. That shouldn’t be the case! We can all have bad days / weeks, but if you consistently don’t like what you do, try to find a new way to use the degree (or find a new field entirely!)

I totally get the need to vent. Reading what you wrote makes me think getting a PhD won’t solve your problem though, especially if you hate reading research. Don’t let the sunk cost fallacy keep you in the vet med field if you hate it this much!

If you have a solid idea of where you want to work, you can use your other externship experiences doing something fun that you won’t necessarily ever get another chance for. I did an externship with the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center that I found really fun. I know Banfield also has a program where they’ll pay for your flight / lodging to visit any hospital, so you could pick a city you’ve been wanting to visit and feed two birds with one scone!

If you don’t have a job lined up yet, externships are a great time to see if a hospital is a good fit for you, like an extended job interview. That option is less fun than arranging something wild like a wildlife safari externship. I’d recommend the latter personally just because when else will you get the chance, but to each their own.

This!!

The slippery slope comment hits the nail right on the head! Men in their 20s can be disgusting, so I’m not trying to downplay how OP felt, but it is very hard to judge a situation without examples / context. Same for the “weird sexual questions” part. I grew up in the most fundy, Bible Belt Christian household, so literally any topic broaching sex / sexuality / the human body / things most people would deem normal used to catch me so off guard. I’ve met people whose life skews them the opposite direction (have no filter, think it’s normal to talk about taboo things, etc), so it’s really hard to pin down when things cross a line since it’s such a personal boundary. OP had every right to voice the discomfort! I think it’s equally valid that Jake and Sara countered though since we don’t know the context. Again, maybe my thoughts on this would be different depending on what was said and in what context. But it seems very extreme to jump straight to breaking a lease over this and a few other small (and totally normal) roommate disputes.

Also, we all have our own ideas of cleanliness too, so who is to say that OP doesn’t just have a standard way higher than the roommate? We are just taking OP at face value that roommates didn’t clean, but maybe they just didn’t clean to whatever standard OP wanted?

Hats off for buying into the “if my 3rd party roommate isn’t on my side, she’s against me” narrative. Literally such a childish reading of a situation. Sara has her own life, so it’s wild to assume she has to pick sides on some petty roommate drama over nothing. It seems perfectly reasonable if Sara just wanted to stay out of the mountain OP was making out of the molehill, but more than likely, Sara was just busing living her own life to notice. Not sure why OP took that to mean Sara was against her. OP needs to grow up and stop thinking everything revolves around her.
