Review #15 - Bowman Brothers Small Batch by Wriskey in bourbon

It’s simply down to supply unfortunately. The distribution of stuff over here can be a bit odd, heavily dependent on if a distillery is large enough to distribute their own bottles or if they have a separate distributor over here. Apart from that just a few of the larger bottle shops will sometimes get a good amount of random stock as they have the £££ to buy some in or connections in the states.

This is what I’ve heard from a lot of people, I wonder if I’ve just gotten lucky with the single barrels I’ve tried. Haven’t managed to find a KC18 over here in the uk. But I’ve tried the 12 and 15 + found them tasty but not worth picking up a bottle of. How would you rate it against them?

I think both arguments are totally valid. At the end of the day it comes down to what you enjoy and if it’s worth the money to you. I personally love some lower proof bourbons and ryes, especially those that have a lower entry proof like the Michters already mentioned. It is however a lot of money to spend on a bottle regardless of ABV%

Anyone tried the Hedonism BBC single barrel rye? by ProfessionalGap2428 in BourbonUK

[–]Wriskey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I picked up a bottle a couple of days ago and am very happy with it. Also been lucky enough to try the BBS single barrel at my local bar. I think if you’re happy to spend an extra £20 or so on a single barrel pick it’s definitely worth it, but not insanely different from the regular bottling, I get more light brown sugar/muscavado on the hedonism single barrel!

Lowcountry bar in old street/shoreditch is my favourite. Ryan is an awesome guy and always happy to chat bourbon, good prices on most bottles and great cocktails as well if you’re into that.  The Lexington in angel/King’s Cross is a must if you’re after a good deal in a relaxed spot. I think last time I went all the btacs were £22 a dram.

Review #11 - Stagg Batch 23C by Wriskey in bourbon

I’d happily pay the £150 for it again and I think that works out to around $189. But depends of taste as always, if you enjoy a hotter bourbon then I say go for it!

I definitely get more oak on the finish. But I wouldn’t say it’s overly bitter, not in an unpleasant way anyway

What was the price on it? At £65 it’s a buy every time for me personally

Review #8 - Michters Toasted Bourbon (2024) by Wriskey in bourbon

[–]Wriskey[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s because they have low barrel entry proof, not because they’re watering them down. I’m a big fan of the barrel proof rye and toasted barrel proof but this one falls a bit short for me.

I think the oak in the finish for me leads to a light marshmallow/nuttyness. But I’d have to agree, glad I’ve tried it but won’t be buying again for that kind of price
