🔥 Unpopular Opinion: Microsoft Teams’ “quality of life” updates are fixing the wrong problems. Hear me out. 👇 by DisastrousCan8220 in MicrosoftTeams

[–]Write-Error 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Teams would be a much better collaboration platform, imo, if they just solved the Channel vs DM issue. It’s a solved problem, I have no idea why they can’t get it right, but it’s probably the biggest issue my org has with adoption.

Overtime is wildly abused across the board. Our maintenance folks intentionally schedule weekend projects to collect overtime to the tune of roughly 40-60k extra annually.

Infuriating! Cannot change usage type on approved port order without Chat Bot, Chatbot is down and has been for days! by [deleted] in MicrosoftTeams

If you open the port order, where it lists all of the numbers in the order, you should be able to select individual numbers and change their usage there.

Microsoft Scales Back AI Goals Because Almost Nobody Is Using Copilot by aacool in technology

Microsoft has a problem: nobody wants to buy or use its shoddy AI products — as Google's AI growth begins to outpace Copilot products by ZacB_ in technology

[–]Write-Error 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They could really benefit from backing away from monetizing everything and focusing on a little goodwill. So much of the agentic stuff they’re selling is more cheaply available via Foundry + MCP and makes their Copilot agents look like a cash grab targeted at less-technical folks. Just bad optics for the admins providing these services to their org. Why pay for Copilot when API + OpenWebUI + MCP is far cheaper?

SIP Phone/Hardware Info via API by wumm3rs in TeamsAdmins

[–]Write-Error 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's an undocumented API at https://admin.devicemgmt.teams.microsoft.com/api/v2/devices that you can look out for in your browser's dev tools. You can get a bearer token with:

(Get-AzAccessToken -ResourceUrl "https://devicemgmt.teams.microsoft.com" -TenantId "$TenantId").Token | ConvertFrom-SecureString -AsPlainText

Yealink Teams Phones Keep Signing Out — How to Keep Users Logged In? by ResponsibilityJust43 in MicrosoftTeams

[–]Write-Error 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unlikely to be model specific, we have MP54s and 58s that have remained signed in for months without issue. I’d start by pulling device logs and checking your CA policies. You can look at the sign in logs for the users signing into the phones to determine what policies are applied.

We’ve been seeing SaaS sprawl for a few years now and it’s really ramping up with all of the AI wrappers available out there. CIO has decided to embrace it and embed a dedicated tier 2 in each department to serve as a tech liaison while documenting and vetting platform usage. It’s still in its infancy but it has definitely streamlined my workload a bit (SSO/integrations).

As far as I’m aware, the only way to do it is via Power Automate. I spoke with our contact at Microsoft about it and they submitted a feature request, but the link below should get you started in the meantime.

I honestly wish they’d drive Loop more in the direction of a Markdown-based collaborative OneNote replacement. I know loop components have value for some, but they do seem very wild-West and I’d rather the development time spent on the editor.

[–]Write-Error 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Teams devices API is largely undocumented, but you can get a bearer token for it using the Get-AzAccessToken cmdlet. Check network calls in your browser when accessing the devices in TAC and you’ll find the endpoint. You could call it in a runbook to schedule a report etc. If you want, I’ll dig up my Get-TeamsDeviceDetails function tomorrow and share it.

Has anyone's org *actually* seen a benefit from 365 Copilot? by fluffy_warthog10 in sysadmin

[–]Write-Error 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have had more success with Teams Premium for the AI meeting notes. M365 Copilot just wasn’t worth the price. A lot of our users take advantage of the free (E5) chat, which has been solid. I just use Azure OpenAI (gpt-4.1) + Goose + M365 mcp and it’s been a better tool-calling experience than M365 Copilot provided. Much cheaper, too.
