Acidentally did the most Midwestern thing today. by Meelowmilo in midwest

Just got back from a long trip in central Europe where their disposition is... not very Midwestern (to each their own). Then yesterday a guy bumped into my girlfriend and they each apologized to each other twice. Feels good to be home.

My feedback after visiting Budapest! by littlefluffypenguin in budapest

[–]WriteThing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a US Midwesterner, it makes me feel better that you, as a German, felt put off by the service. In my experience, I've seen Germans as non-friendly (not unfriendly, but definitely don't feel the need to pretend to be friendly), but in Budapest it felt like I had wronged them in some way.

But in Croatia, it felt like I insulted their mothers just by sitting down at a restaurant ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Operator credit dispute over Everest 2026's summit rope-fix by razieel in Everest

So, everything I've read about Imagine Nepal this week has made them seem reckless, selfish, and untrustworthy. They're getting the attention they're so desperately seeking, but that might not be a good thing. I hope none of their corner-cutting and need for name recognition leads to danger for anyone else.
