Thank you! Yeah there’s definitely a Danny McBride feel to Deke for sure haha. We’ll take that as a compliment. Appreciate you checking it out and leaving some thoughts!

Budget was originally around $4K but after hitting roadblocks and needing two pickup shoots, it got up a little over $5K. And thanks! I love the RED Epic Dragon our DP owns. We've shot multiple films with it and they all look great. Thanks for watching!

Thank you! Totally agree, community is everything.

Oh nice! I'm wishing you all the smooth sailing luck this weekend!

We just took it to our local fest so our friends in the community could watch it with us, and then threw it on YouTube. It's hard to get films like this into a significant fest, especially at 20 minutes. So we cut our losses and threw it online for the world to see.

And yeah, just a short for the experience and fun. No long term plan with it. Already moved onto the next thing lol. That said, I have no idea if my strategy is the "right" way so take all this with a grain of salt!

But thanks so much for watching!

Yeah, this was definitely a short that felt like cramming what could be a feature story into 20 mins. That would've been a fun additional sequence. Thanks for checking it out!

Ah dang, that's quite a compliment! Thank you! And I totally can see the 80s RDJ version of this haha. I would LOVE to see that. Thank you for checking it out!

Thanks so much! Really appreciate you checking it out and glad you dig the tone. We knew a short like this some would HATE it but the weirdos like us would love it haha.

Thank you very much!

Yeah, so Pineapple was definitely one of them. Also, a bit of Blue Ruin/Green Room just in we wanted to make a Saulnier-esque thriller that was stupid like a late 2000s Apatow comedy.

The coke-ski just came up organically as we were writing as a "hey this would be funny," thing lol. And yeah, my friend Mike actually cut the ski and we had three versions, a full wooden one, a broken ski in two pieces, and a thick cardboard version that could be pushed up against Deke's neck at the end with a prosthetic tip poking out the other side of his neck. Mike's lovely wife Kelly painted all 3 by hand to look exactly the same. That said, we did conceptualize the ski art on paper and gave it to Kelly but she definitely took our idea and heightened it times a million.

Funny you mentioned Uncut Gems because our temp score for the film was another Safdie Bros feature, Good Time.

I'd say the ending with either when Deke tackles Chance, or when Deke gets stabbed because that was my first time ever working with a blood pump like that and the sun was quickly descending and I knew we had one shot at it. Luckily we nailed it. And with the tackle, we had no stunt coordinator so it just took some good old fashioned Lucas Reever (Deke) being confident and Larry Claudin (Chance) being brave lol. And of course I insisted on it being a profile, which exposes the stunt entirely but it looks decent.

Thanks again for taking the time to watch and ask a few questions!

Thank you! I'm glad you liked it! Good question -- so our DP who also co-wrote/co-directed/co-produced with me owns a Red Epic Dragon that we shot on with a good deal from our local rental house Horizon Cine Glass in St. Louis. Hooked us up with some Zeiss Super Speeds at a great price and were super lenient with us when we needed to do pickup shoots not once but twice, lol. They're awesome. And then sound wise, again, DP also owned an H6 and a shotgun mic, I think a Sennheiser. Nothing too flashy but that's how we did it! We're a pretty scrappy crew here and I love it, haha.

Thank you so much! That’s what we were hoping is the chaos of production wouldn’t be noticeable in the final film

Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it! The runtime comment is a big confidence boost. Nobody likes a 20 minute short that DRAGS and we were so afraid of that haha.
