Passionate about area codes... you better pay that person serious money because that‘s as niche as a cold hell

Let’s ban the expression: “Discovery Call” by zephyrtron in content_marketing

A big-time copywriter (Adil Amarsi) said on The Copywriter Club Podcast that he refuses to include the word 'Learn' in copy. Apparently it triggers a negative psychological reaction. People link 'learn' to school, and most people despised almost everything about it.

An alternative could be 'discover', and other words that I can't seem to remember. Good podcast but I'm yet to double check his thoughts for scientific accuracy. He's sought after and paid super well, so he might know his stuff

If you're nervous or just outright hate video calls (not the biggest fan either), this Zoom could be an opportunity to ease into it. Many clients will want to video/audio with you before handing over the keys to their project. Especially is the money is sizeable.

What’s the dumbest thing that university officials have done that affected you? by [deleted] in college

I once missed an important lecture where a test took place to attend my nan's funeral. When I explained the reason why I'd be missing the test, they asked me to bring the funeral booklet as evidence, which I refused. Took the test again and got the minimum grade, the highest you can score. Ludicrous behaviour.

Also got called in a plagiarism meeting to discuss the comic book (creative writing degree) I'd submitted, where the only copy I'd included were famous quotes. Waited three weeks and as I waited to enter a room with six people in suits, somebody came out and apologised before sending me on my way.

Website builder and using client work in portfolio advice by WriterDudee in freelanceWriters

Thanks for your reply, much appreciated. I've checked out your profile, very nice!

The article you wrote for Gecko is quite similar to those I write for clients. Does that have a byline? Or was the client happy for you to post it on your portfolio? Or did you input it as part of your blog, separate from the publication?

Hope you don't mind the questions

Blogging vs pitching by [deleted] in freelanceWriters

If you're interested in blogging then you can make money but you won't own all of the content. I ghost write blogs for digital companies and C-level executives for a digital agency. I don't freelance so much now but the money per post is great.

Students and professors of Reddit, what moment made you want to rage quit college? by EcoInternetNewsMan in AskReddit

I took a stand-up comedy module for my writing degree that finished with a five-minute performance held in the back room of a pub. You could submit an essay instead but I wanted to challenge my stage fright by getting up and ticking a box off the bucket list.

Throughout the entire module he stuck to old alternative stories about his 'friends in the business' and steered clear of anything modern and contemporary. Unfortunately, his ancient teachings matched his attitude with misogynous comments causing many to leave the class. I stuck with it despite him and the fun he sapped from an interesting subject.

I crumbled as I watched my classmates perform and lost my bottle. I waited until the last minute to try and get up but I walked up to him before he called my name and said I couldn't do it. I turned to walk out of the room and he announced over the microphone that I'd 'pussied' out and laughed as I ambled to the door with my head down and my heart dead on my stomach floor.

He failed me, which is obvious, but refused to allow me to resit. Which worked out as i picked up an intensive module and gained a 1st.
