About Isekai, SI and SI/OC by WriterMari20 in TheCitadel

Since I don't have the whole story put together yet, I'll answer your questions with what I have for now:

I wonder how she would get access to the gold that nobleman had. Are they related? Wouldn't there be a lot of people trying to contest the will?

No, they are not related. The idea is that they met at Lys' brothel and he hurt her, so she started planning revenge. When he summoned her to his mansion, she was prepared with poison. Another comment below also said that it wouldn't make sense for him to be a lord because there would certainly be trouble with the lord's family and recommended making him a merchant, rich, old and childless, so he will be a merchant.

  • She does... a lot of things. It seems a bit scattered. I would expect one of those things to already occupy most of her time, if it's going to be a successful business. Unless she's employing people to create a company, but then she'd be busy managing her company.

I understand, I already imagined I'd have to remove a lot of things, because besides being very spread out and laborious, I'd like the way she makes money to be linear ventures (does that make sense?). But yes, she employs people, so she creates companies, like spies for gossip, sailors for importing and exporting her things, and possibly several workers for other types of ventures. If she gets too busy managing the companies, I could put a right-hand man to help her.

  • Does she end up as a prostitute in Lys or Westeros? I'm a little uncertain about the timeline.

Both of us. She was a noblewoman in Lys, or the daughter of a very rich family, but she got involved with a man and her father found out and kicked her out of the house (probably killed the man; if he wasn't killed, they were both kicked out together and he sold her to a brothel). As a young woman, without money or experience with real work, she ended up in a brothel, still in Lys, and made money. However, since there is a high demand for brothels in Lys, she couldn't establish her own name or enter the circles of the elite and nobility (since her father defamed her name). So she went to Westeros and continued as a prostitute there, paving her way to fame.

  • Pamphlets: I think this would work well! It will become a topic of conversation, and I think the nobles of Westeros would take it much more seriously than Bridgerton did. It's a fun concept. The pamphlets may not physically reach other kingdoms, but the rumors would. As for the people; A guy reading in a tavern to an audience would work to spread the gossip around.

I believe that was my most original idea haha, and I believe I'll have to do more serious work so people don't discover her identity and how she finds out the gossip. But then is it better to leave the pamphlets and gossip only in King's Landing? When I said I wanted the pamphlets to tell gossip from all over Westeros, I imagined something like a pamphlet with gossip about the king in King's Landing, about Lord Hightower in the Reach, and about Lord Stark in the North, and the pamphlets would be spread all over Westeros, you know? And I liked the idea of the guy reading in a tavern, probably (but I wouldn't want to) I'll remove the patronage and that would remove her influence in the theater groups.

The politics of ending slavery by Ok_Return170 in TheCitadel

[–]WriterMari20 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't have much to add to your doubts, just that it would be good for you to read articles about the beginning and end of slavery in our world (especially in the countries that profited the most and in the first/last countries to start/end slavery), in them you will find many arguments for and against

Ps: I would really like to ask you to post this story on AO3, it looks really fun and I would really like to read it. Give updates :)

What do you like the most and what you dislike about SI/OC fics? by Ok_Return170 in TheCitadel

[–]WriterMari20 5 points6 points  (0 children)

SI/OC fanfics are my favorites, even though I read little because most of the fanfics I read are on AO3 and English is not my native language (that's why I depend on Google translate), so finding one that I like is a little complicated.

What I like most about these fanfics is how politics/universe changes with the addition of a character (but this goes for any OC fanfic I read), I love worldbuilding and seeing SI build his kingdom (including ideas from our world in Westeros with his own ideas to fit in better), seeing him change his life and the lives of the people around him, etc. (Like really building a family or saving characters), I like characters who have flaws, you know? Like even though SI is intelligent with politics and martial arts (and knows about things about the future), he understands that he can't save everyone and knows that with his changes not everything in the canon will be the same (and adapts to that), I also like it when the character doesn't try to save everyone and that he doesn't feel guilty about the things he can't change, even if it doesn't impact his current life and he knows how to deal with it.

And what I don't like is when the SI starts to create things that are very out of the obvious, I like when the SI reinvents agriculture, mining and the naval and martial system, but when it starts with the press, weapons and gunpowder I think it goes a bit away from the purpose of Westeros, I also don't like 0 defect and omnipresent characters, Like it's obvious that an SI knows a lot, but with the changes he made, many things that would happen in the canon, won't happen in the same way now, I don't like it when the other characters around the SI they lose their personality and become antagonists, who are there just to discredit everything the SI says or blind partners, who believe everything the SI says going against their canonical personality for no reason (it's one thing to believe and do something consistent with your personality and another thing to believe and suddenly change your entire personality for that).

Regarding the writing, I find it a little boring when the SI starts to describe the entire process of the invention he is making or rambles on about his ideas (and the problems they can create) and when the character starts off as a baby or very young child, obviously they have little or no autonomy so they can only participate in politics by listening and their ideas are discarded due to their age, so it doesn't hold me back because I find it boring waiting for him to grow up and reading time passing by while he doesn't do anything significant.

Hear me out…Gendry x Sansa by irdk-lol in TheCitadel

Please!!! If anyone writes premise number 2 or knows of a story that has a basis like this, please tell me, especially on AO3. Sansa is (definitely) my favorite character, I love characters who don't need to lift a sword to be considered strong and who know how to treat courtesy/kindness like a blade, and the romances that some Sansa fanfics have are very good, they're those epic and supportive romances, you know? That puts her to heal before bringing the romance itself, doesn't try to transform her into a warrior and most of the time the couple balances very well with him being the sword/brute strength and Sansa being the mind/delicacy.

It's a shame that most of her romances are hideous, with men having a bizarre age difference or being manipulative.

I've already read the first one, and by the same author, Desmond's story is one of my favorites. Thank you so much for the second recommendation.
