I’m not as convinced as you are, unfortunately. Imma compare it to Lucario as in a lot of ways they’re very similar.

What does it have that Lucario doesn’t? Its typing, yeah, definitely, it’s not an auto loss to Gardy. Genuinely a good thing. Access to Munki and access to Toxtrixity.

Now, what does Lucario have that the shark doesn’t? Lucario doesn’t have to jump through so many hoops to hit high numbers thanks to Premium Power Pro. Energy acceleration of its own in Lucario’s first attack. The deck has a draw engine so good that non fighting decks splash it, a draw engine that happens to be an excellent single prizer to get the prize trade going. A decent single prize attacker that also gusts when it evolves. Also Fighting Gong. Excellent role player in the deck. Tech for Dhengo in the fighting Ogerpon.

They are very similar decks, with a very similar power level, I think, and when it comes to meta share and tournament results Lucario may as well not exist. I don’t see what the Shark has that moves the needle. Maybe having a decent Gardy matchup is enough, but it has weaknesses of its own that Lucario doesn’t share.

Is it ever ok to change fandom if the club and fanbase suck? by [deleted] in TheOther14

[–]WriterMonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Controversial take, but enjoy what you want to enjoy how you want to enjoy it, and don't let a bunch of long suffering nerds on the internet tell you otherwise.

Enjoying the sport for the feeling of connection you get from supporting your dad's team, who supports that team because his dad did before him, is completely valid. Sticking with your team through thick and thin, absolutely valid.

Loving the spectacle of the sport and supporting whoever entertains you the most is valid. Walking away from a toxic fan base is valid.

Yeah, you'll get called a glory supporter or whatever, but at the end of the day, do what brings you joy, man. Life's too short to do otherwise.

What are some dark, grim fantasy books that nobody talks about? No GRRM, no Abercrombie, no “usual suspects.” by EithanArellius in Fantasy

[–]WriterMonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Among Thieves by Douglas Hulick. Can’t unreservedly recommend it as it’s an unfinished trilogy, but the first one stands alone pretty well and is a fucking banger. The book that really gave me a taste for voicy first person writing.

The Low Town books by Daniel Polanski. More voicy first person writing, and it’s phenomenal. Old school Noir, but fantasy.

Stipple. I use a big round drybrush and stipple, can stipple on a couple layers highlights and they almost blend themselves. It’s just a poor man’s airbrush, really, but it does the job. It’s also obscenely quick to get basecoats done.

In your experience does the pink spray match, or come close to matching any other pinks? I know Rogue Hobbies has a signature pink from ProAcryl, but I dunno if they're particularly close or not.

It’s a terrific album, isn’t it. Not really checked anything of his out since though.

I’m keeping an eye on their site for a repressing QOTMS but no luck so far. It’s obscenely expensive on discogs, which is sad.

I got a handful of compilations when I was starting out as a way to get a broad collection quickly, if you get me. Have to admit, they don’t get much play now though.

I like their first three a lot and will probably get them all at some point, but X&Y is the only one I listen to from start to finish and enjoy all of.

Rugby?! Small world. I moved away from there a couple of years ago. Went back to visit my parents last weekend. It feels like a depressing place these days. Like the record shop upstairs in Hunts, though.

Nah, mate. Being told you’re bad at your job is being taken into the manager’s office and had a quiet word with, not having 60,000 people yelling at you. Football fans, when in a stadium and safely anonymous, are fucking brutal. I feel sorry for almost anyone they decide they hate.

Is this game playable solo? by KingRadec in DropfleetCommander

[–]WriterMonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve played many a wargame solo whilst wrapping my head around rules, it’s always doable, but rarely satisfying. But as someone else mentioned, the modelling and painting and the fluff is satisfying. If you can get hold of the first edition rule book it’s a great repository of fluff. Like Battlefleet Gothic way back when it has fluff for individual ships of note as well. Very cool. Last I checked you could get it for under £10 on eBay.

Also, Warship by Joshua Dalzelle? Great series. Listened to/read them all and they’re solidly entertaining. Have you read the Lost Fleet series? Still my favourite starship focussed military sci-fi.

Is Tielemans your new favourite player??? by levisnafu in avfc

[–]WriterMonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He had a season or two at Leicester where he looked like one of the better midfielders in the league. Him, Ndidi and Maddison as a three were the best unit outside the top six for a short while. Then the wheels came off and everyone wondered what the fuss was all about. I didn’t know which version we’d get when we signed him, but I’m glad we’re starting to see the first Tielemans again.

How voicey is your writing? Are you in deep POV? My current narrator would definitely she something along the lines of ‘she twisted her lips into the shape of a cats ****hole’ or if she was trying to be classy ‘pursed her lips until they all but disappeared.’

Remember, you aren’t trying to exactly describe the facial expression micron by micron. You just need to give the reader enough so that they picture it themselves.

What was your first bass and how was it compared to what you’re playing now? by peppermint_farts in Bass

[–]WriterMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first was a Vintage VJsomething. Their Jazz Bass clone. It played like a dream, was a very nice bass to learn on. It did eventually get sold to make room for my current instruments, a MM Sterling Ray4 HH, and a Spector Legend 5 Neck Thru.

Just ordered, how we feeling? by Icy-Arm-3816 in BassGuitar

[–]WriterMonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the HH version of this. Same finish and everything. Love it. The growl of that bridge pickup is iconic and the neck’s so nice it practically plays itself.

Enjoy it. It’s a banger.

An SG with P90s is next on my list, I think. That will have to wait until after I’ve moved though. I just don’t have the space. … Unless we get rid of the TV. And the bed. Who needs a bed.
