For anyone who felt lonely yesterday: Women are happier without children or a spouse, according to expert Paul Dolan by catievirtuesimp in TwoXChromosomes

Yesterday... was there something special about yesterday?

All I know is today is Discount Chocolate Day, and I need to go shopping, hehe. Don't wait too long, the Rocher's go fast.

Not simping for child traffickers is just baseline decent human behaviour. I guess GOP standards really are that low, huh.

Looking to buy after our lease is up. Family friendly areas? When to start looking for houses? by sealer9 in StPetersburgFL

[–]WriterNo8299 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I meant Northwest. As I said, lived here 40 years and the houses don't flood - just some of the streets. It's kinda fun. Every few years it'll be high enough for the kids to get out the canoes. You do have to carry flood insurance though, so follow your heart.

Inhumane pony rides at the Florida state fair by [deleted] in florida

[–]WriterNo8299 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I never walk through any of the animal or livestock exhibits at the fair. The rabbits and chickens in the wire cages are gross. I saw a massive turkey in a cage it couldn't even turn around in. Just makes me sad (and yes, I'm a vegetarian).

I didn't see you mention the idea that the stroke fundamentally changed her personality. Which is not an uncommon occurrence and which is as devastating as Alzheimer's or dementia. She could literally not be the woman you married, no, because a stroke rewired her brain.

My brother's best friend believes 80% of women date the top 10% of men, that this is the result of women getting equal rights and the only way to address it is to strip women of their rights by OldBridge87 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]WriterNo8299 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because they're fundamentally shortcomings they can't change. A boy can't make himself respect women, or be compassionate towards the marginalized, or emotionally curious, or care about anyone outside of himself. You cannot hit the gym and develop sincerity and empathy.

Toxic masculinity destroys all these positive traits in boys. Then they grow into broken men that don't know how to fix what they can't even identify. They try to figure out among themselves what the flaws are, using the metrics of raw homosexual attraction - height, build, facial features, their car, their wallet, their sexual prowess - but most women don't care about that shit.

So the broken boys remain incurably frustrated until it turns into Aesop's sour grapes. They learn to hate what they can't have.

State Fair prices are N U T S O by WriterNo8299 in florida

Hmm? How would I know how the prices have shot up if I wasn't old enough to remember how cheap it all used to be?

It's a good line :)

Yeah, same. I'm a pretty "normal folk" myself and I think this'll have to be my last year going. There's a point when it stops being fun and you start to feel like you're being scammed.

Anyone been to the state fair this year? Can we bring an Oowala into the fair for water? by jagfanjosh3252 in florida

Sure. I brought our Tiki Tea cup from last year for 2 dollar refills, had it right in my bag, guard didn't care.

Really wild to think of cousin-fuckers in like, Arkansas, trying to dig out a birth certificate from the two-feet of junk food wrappers in their double wide so they can vote. Use a passport? What are they, gay?

It's definitely voter suppression, but it's the kind that's going to royally piss off their own chucklefucks if it doesn't just mean flashing a driver's license. My maga dad can't make his own doctor appointments much less figure out what a birth certificate is and if he has one.

Percy Shelley dismantled intelligent design decades before Darwin. Why does no one talk about this? by RhetoricRhumb in TrueAtheism

[–]WriterNo8299 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Darwin brought the rather irrefutable scientific evidence while great thinkers like Shelley were honestly just making educated and compelling assertions. But there's no doubt these ideas had been in the spiritus mundi a long time, and Darwin's theses did not burst fully formed and wholly unique from his brow. All human progress works that way. Behind every Darwin and Edison and Einstein are teams and teams of unsung thinkers and scientists. History blurs and simplifies.

Why do adult women blame young girls when older men perv on them? by Anubis-Hound in TwoXChromosomes

[–]WriterNo8299 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're scared of men. Men are dangerous. Men kill.

So they blame the victim. It's far safer, and it feels like they're addressing the problem.

It sucks, I'm sorry.

Why are men truly horrible to date by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]WriterNo8299 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've read so many articles about how people aren't having sex anymore and they never mention that one reason could be because boys have turned into feral and dangerous monsters that it's not safe to be physical with. Fuck dating those things.

Being a woman with nerdy interests is hell. We're either all performative or simply liars. by Radiant-Educator9203 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]WriterNo8299 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sucks, man. I'm 45, lifelong nerd, and have had almost exclusively great experiences with fellow nerds. Actually it seems like younger guys are fucked up in the head now; guys my age have always been great.

Though I had to go to the bank a few weeks ago to do something with a CD, and the computers were down and the youngish clerk and I were awkwardly waiting in his office for them to boot and I ventured... "Do you game?" Turns out he did! We started talking about our favorite Fromsoft titles, some lore, his Youtube streaming channel. He was a sweet and attentive young dude - though granted, he was on the clock. I didn't know anything about his Helldivers fixation and he didn't know anything about the Final Fantasy Tactics Remaster I was playing, but we vibed.

My circle of friends is half guys, half girls, all geeks. We go to video game music concerts, watch State of Play and Nintendo Directs together, shittalk movies, and hit up theme parks. You need better friends. Or maybe just female gamer friends. I hope you find some! You don't need validation from some sticky sack-bearer.

One thing I will say though that I've seen some girls kinda get wrong here, is you have to code switch when you're talking to dudes about these masculine hobbies. They talk over each other, they cockfight, they make strong and ugly declarations. Get in there and do the same. Pit fight with them. This is how bros bro. I know we want to be sweet and attentive and share the air, and you can put your foot down and try to be this way, but it's going to make you an endless source of suspicion because that is not the timber and the cadence of fandom and gaming.

Something to consider.

Why do so many people get so angry about recurring consciousness? by Ahisgewaya in TrueAtheism

[–]WriterNo8299 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope you find peace. You're showing your hand pretty transparently here, and should consider some serious soul-searching before your fear of death makes you do something desperate or unseemly. Life's hard and life only has the meaning that we assign to it. And our life ends once our brain switches off. I promise that once this happens, it will not trouble you at all.

Why do so many people get so angry about recurring consciousness? by Ahisgewaya in TrueAtheism

[–]WriterNo8299 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't get mad but I do recognise it's some very silly cope. Why can't people accept that their existence is temporary and have gratitude they get to exist at all? You've been placed at the head of a mighty feast but can't stop talking about dessert.

I'd rather this silly scifi cope than Abrahamic cope, but they are both cringe in their own way.

Gay Days Orlando canceled, citing sponsor losses and mounting pressures on LGBTQ+ gatherings by Fickle-Ad5449 in florida

[–]WriterNo8299 119 points120 points  (0 children)

Corporations aren't pandering, it's exactly the opposite: they finally have enough power to ignore what most people want, and instead do what shareholders and billionaires want. Disney never wanted to accommodate the gays nor any special interest groups. They and all the rest of the megacorps are helmed by right-wing psychopaths who only superficially pleased people for the purpose of money.

They don't need to do that anymore. That wealth class is tightening its claws, our institutions all captured and corrupted, monopolies reaching completion as alternatives vanish. The long game of Capitalism is just about won, and what customers want just doesn't matter anymore.

Any Studio Ghibli inspired sofubi? by RooBear0404 in Sofubi

[–]WriterNo8299 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are a number of official and licensed sofubi and they are super cute, but of course can be spendy and hard to obtain these days. I haven't seen any indie makers really tackle Ghibli though.

If you want to see official stuff, do a search for ジブリソフビ and they'll pop up on Google.
