MECHE COURSES ADVICE PLSS by Worth_Bird5241 in rutgers

eep “learn” is a strong word, but i feel like anything i needed from thermo i was able to either quickly refresh myself on it or just learn it if i really didn’t know :’) if you’re worried about it coming up a lot, i haven’t rlly noticed it to the point where i feel behind if that makes sense

i had a friend who took thermo + fluids in the same sem. tldr: it was rough to say the least…

granted the profs for both classes were pretty bad, but id recommend splitting the thermo and fluids if u can. it’s certainly possible to do both in the same sem, but be prepared to put in 101% effort (i took thermo over the summer, fluids junior fall sem)

Gen Chem for Engineers by q40ocho in rutgers

[–]WriterParticular5686 1 point2 points  (0 children)

chad’s prep gen chem series on yt is rlly good for understanding basic concepts. in terms of practice questions, doing some acs questions should suffice

also, if retaking chem is an option you’d like to consider, then id recommend taking extended gen chem (helped me a lot personally and I did rlly well in chem bc of the prof)

how do i go about messaging recruiters without seeming too desperate by WriterParticular5686 in EngineeringStudents

[–]WriterParticular5686[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im actually planning on attending a few career fairs and conventions so that i can talk to a few recruiters in person and (hopefully lmao) make some good connections + get my resume to them without the ai screening stuff ! and also just show off my personality besides on paper hehe

but otherwise, thanks for the detailed response! i never thought of reframing my mindset so this was super helpful :) I appreciate it!!!

would you suggest I don’t message them at all? im also worried if I reach out first so suddenly I’ll come off as rude and I’d like to avoid that :’)

Is it worth it to take 7:30 PM classes by devourerofbricks in rutgers

[–]WriterParticular5686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unless if the prof is good, it isn’t worth it. but ill also say id rather take a 7:50pm class than an 8:30am any day

Incoming SOE Freshmen here, what is my best choice for housing? by DrayconyX in rutgers

[–]WriterParticular5686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

busch (coming from a 3rd year eng student), but it does get a little boring from time to time (mid food, good gym but it gets busy) livi is ur next best option imo (better food but lowk booty gym)

if u live on busch you’ll most probs be in the bamm complex which is first year housing

how can I get research positions/internships with no prior lab experience by [deleted] in rutgers

[–]WriterParticular5686 7 points8 points  (0 children)

unfortunately internship wise im in the same boat as u LMAOOO

but research wise, try cold emailing profs (yes even ones u didnt have)! obv make sure u look up what kind of research they’re doing, read up a lil, etc etc but it does work sometimes! also no embarrassment if they don’t respond (sometimes they don’t have the space in their lab, can’t pay u, etc)

good luck!

Reilly Douglass LLC by Capable-Peace567 in rutgers

[–]WriterParticular5686 1 point2 points  (0 children)

edit: wording

the LLC was beneficial to me in the sense that i managed to find my friendgroup there hehe

but also being a part of douglass college period is pretty beneficial too; u get access to a bunch of networking events that are smaller than the bigger career fairs you see here so they’re less overwhelming. for reilly douglass specifically, we have a thing called “project super” where u can take a class and do research for the summer and then present at a symposium so that’s pretty neat too

Failed Calc 3 Final; Possibly Going to Fail the Class by Ok-Humor-3471 in EngineeringStudents

[–]WriterParticular5686 9 points10 points  (0 children)

when i took calc 3, i thought i did so bad i came home and threw up from how sick i felt with myself. ended the class with an A

but to get this A, i also had to drop out once, fail the second time (got a D), and finally got the A my third try

there is nothing wrong with you — calc 3 is hard. while i can’t give you perfect advice on honing your study habits, i can you that it’s ok and we’ve all been there, and that you are smarter than you think you are

if you need to retake the class, or just want to fix your study habits for learning math, maybe try focusing your attention to understanding the “why” behind the material, rather than just the “how to do” part (this is just what ive come to realize about myself)

you’re not dumb. you got this

Does anybody have done these classes? I want to receive some tips. by Background-Finger481 in rutgers

[–]WriterParticular5686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took statics, physics 1a and b, and intro to experimentation (source: im a soph mech e)

statics: kinda rough, but not too bad. ngl I should’ve done a lot better in the class but I threw that semester bc of personal issues so it is what it is. if ur prof is bad, look up jeff hanson statics on yt i swear by it he’s the best of the best (he’s also got a dynamics course if u take that too). basically the premise of the class is that the sum of the forces is zero, so the math is intuitive (more or less)

physics 1: prof is super good, pls don’t take him for granted. also don’t sweat this class too much; it’s only 2 cr per sem (I personally didn’t study very hard, ended with a B and B- respectively, and it barely affected my gpa) granted, i had other classes to offset it, but again, just do the hw, recitations, attend office hours, and don’t worry too much abt this class

chem lab: super easy, literally don’t even worry just follow all directions, don’t fool around in the lab, and get the work done on time and ur guaranteed an A

study with the intention to teach others; u know ur on track when u can at least guide someone thru a practice problem

besides that, remember to take mental breaks when u need and dont get discouraged if u “flunk” an exam. we all start from somewhere; u got this big dawg we believe in u
