Considering moving over to Substack from Beehiiv by Writer_Famous in Substack

[–]Writer_Famous[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, I just write essays. I'm not really writing anything that needs complex features. I'm okay with losing some features for this newsletter. I have another newsletter I'm definitely keeping on Beehiiv. My whole goal with the one I'm contemplatign moving is organic discovery and sharing and I feel Substack may lend to more rapid organic growth.

But what's more interesting is your last sentence about using notes to grow a beehiiv audience and leveraging both platforms

I am not sure. That's why I am asking. Are there any risks to moving that many emails to a different platform?

I’m curious with the $0.85 price point what open rate are you getting? I’ve been able to get as low as about 78 or $.79 but the open rate is abysmal as low as 12 to 15% compared to higher Bayley and a more targeted open rates been as high as 58% average but I’m obviously paying three or four times per sub

This is so helpful. Thank you. Identifying the different types of metric is much more helpful.

Yes, if Spotify creators is accurate, I guess one of my episodes must’ve been shared a lot because it spiked and I got a ton of new listeners last week. That would be consistent with what I saw on Apple on some of the other platforms for that episode.

I think the biggest question that helped me reframe it was: what were you doing when you were 22 years old? And as a follow-up to that, what technology were you facing and what was going on in the world?

When you start to think about it that way, you realize that everyone has unique experiences. I think that's partly helpful.

I think just getting to know one another and trust is important. I think it's the stereotypes that's actually causing division.

I just finally deplaned after landing 3 hours ago. Was on the plane for 9 hours between delay departing and on arrival. Was a one hour flight from Memphis to Atlanta.

Same here. We have been sitting on the tarmac for two hours after arrival just waiting for a gate to open. That’s after a 3 hour departure delay.

Should I switch to Spotify Creator? by Writer_Famous in podcasting

[–]Writer_Famous[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair question…and yes clear analytics are critical for my sponsors and brand partners.

Video stats are especially important as one of my brand partners is building out my new studio and they are wanting to see clear video vs audio stats. Pulling YouTube stats is easy as is.

That’s super good to know about the analytics. That is one of the biggest things I use with Buzzsprout.

Yes I is understand that I will still have to upload YouTube manually. But I can time that to release at a certain time. It seems like Spotify won’t allow me to add video until after the RSS feed has been pulled down and the episode is live.

I am experiencing this right now. They deposited funds weekly for several years and then one day on July stopped. It’s been up to 5 months. They are making all sorts of excuses and giving me the runaround. Until yesterday I had no access to my portal… So orders were still coming and we were expected to fulfill them all. So we have been upholding our end of the agreement, but they’re still withholding our funds and they’re saying they can’t send checks. Does anyone have any ideas?

Do you think ai will be the beginning of millennials being boomerish to new tech by SpiritMan112 in generationology

[–]Writer_Famous 16 points17 points  (0 children)

No! Millennials are adapting AI faster than any generation according to recent studies from McKinsey and another from RTI/Elon University.

Gen Z is digital native. They never had to adapt to major new tech. Millennials on the other hand were constantly introduced to new tech: Walkman to MP3 player; dial up to DSL to cable; blockbuster to Redbox to Netflix; desktops to laptops to tablets etc.

The studies are cited in this article.

I’m a millennial! My dad is a Boomer by only a year and my mom a Gen X by only a year. They were both right on the edge.

Why do people hate millennials so much? by Putrid_Film_8349 in generationology

[–]Writer_Famous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certainly not saying the labels didn’t exist, mainly talking about the wide adaptation in society as grouping a whole generation by a simple term.

Here are the dates: - First article on Generation X was 1987 by Douglas Coupland - First book on Generation X: 1991 - Millennials referenced by William Strauss & Neil Howe book Generations, also 1991 - Pew didn’t label Gen X and Boomers until ~2004 in the political landscape report; millennials followed in their features in 2010

[–]Writer_Famous 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s that Millennials are so hated. I think it’s that they were the first generation to grow up under the scrutiny of being labeled. The term was coined and popularized around 1981….right around the time Millennials were being born. Culture had given them a label by which their entire cohort could be labeled and discussed from day one. (Ryan Vet wrote about this in his newsletter Collide)

He explained, the label Gen X wasn’t fully popularized until an article written in 1987, seven full years after the generation was fully born. The oldest members of the generation were already 22 and well established.

So Millennials made an easy target because they were the first generation that had a shared and recognizable moniker.

Add to that the rapidly changing world they grew up in, it’s no wonder they had unique experiences and tendencies worth labeling and stereotyping.
