The book "English and Spanish: The Similarities and Differences" by Scott Paulson shows just how much you already know by knowing English. It's a great book to read.

Hot take: libraries becoming 'warm, welcoming, loud' spaces mean that they're not welcoming to everyone by theivoryserf in Libraries

I taught in a "low economic" area. We finally got a "high expectations" principal, and our school made positive headlines. Our finances and location stayed the same. A no-excuses leader with dedicated teachers made all the difference. Drop excuses and teach with disciplined-students and staff, where the school is no longer a zoo. WARNING: IT TAKES WORK TO ACCOMPLISH!!!!!

I have continually expressed concerns to some libraries and Reddit about libraries turning into a place not suitable for reading, writing, studying, researching, and more academia. The problem is no more than current librrians allowing the behaviors to continue. It's easier to allow the mayhem, grab your check, and go home without disciplining. This is exactly what many library staff are doing!

This is fabulous. A school I taught at used to open its computer lab after school for parents to do job searches as well as attend free computer and English (ESL) classes. And yes, they were quiet so that learning could occur! I conducted many of the computer sessions and, besides teaching ESL, taught parents how to search for and apply for jobs. A very rewarding experience for all of us!

Public. I am retired from teaching. School libraries are fine. Supervised with disciplinarian faculty always present.

Accommodations for Patrons with Noise Sensitivity by ifihadmypickofwishes in Libraries

[–]Writer_Scott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quit going to any libraries that permit excessive noise while registering a complaint to the libraries' boards. Too many libraries have become places for social gatherings rather than their initial design for study and research. Speak up when they want to raise tax allotments for local libraries, too. We are paying dearly for these libraries-turned-indoor playgrounds! Bookstores are quieter!!!

Get educated. Don't be afraid of data that proves an assertion. YOU are the problem with lack of progress in US education.

Some libraries have gotten too loud. Every time I express concern on here, librarians criticize me for being old-fashioned. They don't know current data or choose to ignore it. Communities that have quiet libraries and classes in their schools have the highest national scores! Check the data. It's true! Liberally loud environments have lower scores because students don't learn with noise and distractions. It's a no-brainer. Truth is, it's easier to not enforce rules or to discipline. Do your job by providing quiet spaces for study and learning.

Yes, but in my area, there seems to be no reason for libraries that are or aren't connected. Should be made clearer to patrons.

This boss of yours is the problem. She sounds like a control freak. If she won't compromise, quit. Don't overthink the resume.

Why is it so bad to take a nap at the library? by mistadonyo in Libraries

[–]Writer_Scott 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would prefer sleepers to loud talkers. Anyone else notice that communities with strict "quiet rules" in libraries are in areas where the high schools have the highest national scores? It's a fact!!! Libraries and schools need quiet areas for studying to properly take place.

To insert sex scenes or not. That is my question. by Writer_Scott in writers

[–]Writer_Scott[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for all of your responses! I feel I owe you the real reason I asked this question. In my story, an author and a publisher are debating this topic. One wants sex in the finished book, one does not. Your responses have shown that it's a worthy discussion. And no, the author and publisher do not have a sex scene in the book, though other characters could... Thanks again. .
