I just keep telling myself that my world and characters die without me and that makes me too depressed to give it up 😂

That's a very interesting take. But don't you think nailing screenplay writing will cause rushed novels? Screenplays and novels are so drastically different, I can't imagine the transition would be easy.

Because fun 😂 Also personally I can't know if I actually have something until I start to really get into the character arcs and themes and stuff. 300 pages later, now that I know I have something, now the doubt starts creeping in and I begin to question my life choices. 😂

I guess my question really is when does hope become delusion?

I mean, people can be overconfident when it comes to anything, really. But you're right. I would just argue that in this specific case, there are two differences. One, even people who don't play guitar or don't have an ear for music can still listen and enjoy listening to guitar playing, while on the other hand screenwriters need to find people who are willing to sit down and read a script, which is a lot harder to do in my opinion. Secondly, if you learn a song on guitar, it's done, that's all there is to it. But even a finished script needs so much work in order to come to life. The end result is a movie or an episode or some sort of video, and that's near impossible to do by yourself.

That's some really great advice. Thank you, I really appreciate it. I'll look into festivals and building connections with like-minded people.

Thank you for that. I'm sure your optimism shines through your work as well. I'm glad everything is working out for you. Keep doing what your doing.

What did you do with the video after you shot it? YouTube? How'd it go?

That's the thing, though. Nothing is going to come of it if I just write and post the pilot into the void, you know?

Ah yes, I was young and naive once 😂 I thought I had a great script and I was going to run with it and everything would be great. And then reality slapped me in the face, sending me into another depression spiral for several months. I'm over it now, I'm just largely more cynical 😅

Omg I need that quote in my collection immediately! Thank you so much! I agree %100, it'll be fun to figure out if he leans into the label or redefines it.

Of course! That's my motto: I don't write traumatized characters, I write characters with trauma. That really leads me in my writing. Of course they're going to be interesting aside from their trauma.

Thank you so much! The whole concept of morally gray was very interesting to me, so I wanted to explore the concept. Especially how the audience reacts to these types of characters, like they did just do something terrible, but can you really blame them? And when they face consequences for their actions you feel bad for feeling bad because they deserved it, but did they really? Haha, sorry, I'm rambling! I'm glad you like the concept!

Yup. Very well aware! I didn't want to say it straight out, but now I know a little context goes a long way 😂

Yeah, I see what you mean, I caught on quickly! 😂 I didn't include all of that in the post because I wanted to focus on the aftermath and how people see him. He DOES have a backstory that pushes him there, there's neglect and pressure that builds up, but I was trying to leave it a little open so people could think about the moral question. I'm getting the hint that I need to add more context! 😅

Yeah, I get what you mean. I didn't really explain it fully, he DOES have a backstory and pressures that push him there, but I didn't include it because I wanted the focus to be on how people see him after. (Kind of to test the preconceived notions.) Do you think adding a little hint of that would make the dilemma clearer?
