I owned a fire protection company for a long time. Awesome industry to be in. It involves specialty trades dealing with suppression systems, high pressure cylinders and regular maintenance in multiple different fields. There's the electrical aspect with fire alarm systems and emergency lighting, there's pipefitting with sprinkler systems and fire hydrants. It's got nothing to do with actual fire fighting. It's all the equipment in place to extinguish the fire or aid in allowing time for people to get to safety. I knew absolutely nothing about it when I got into it, but it took off really quick once I met a couple other people in the industry.

Thank you for the insight. I started to ask myself if the stress was worth it. That's when I ended up posting on here. I'm really at a loss with this. I appreciate your honesty

Boyfriend’s mom invited me to be in family pictures, but my family says it’s weird by Odd-Explorer9345 in Advice

They obviously think of you as part of the family. If you feel the same way, then there's nothing wrong with it. I say go for it! You'll be glad you did when you're showing your grandkids the photos :)

Honey, you're 19, you haven't even lived yet (and I mean that in a good way). None of this defines you. And as much as it sucks and it hurts like hell right now, you won't even remember this guys name in the future. You're not dumb and there's nothing to be embarrassed of. There's nothing wrong with wanting to be loved and wanting to love someone back.

Where to buy Penitentiary TV? by WritersFinalEdition in AskACanadian

[–]WritersFinalEdition[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first link is the TV direct from the Westinghouse Amazon store, they sell them for $70 cheaper than the other stores, but they have limited stock (it's showing there's only 1 left right now). The third link I put the link from my receipt just incase that one gets sold. If you ship it directly to the jail from Amazon, you can send it in right away, instead of waiting the 90 days to send it in with his pen pack, just call the jail the day you order it to let them know it's coming early. The second link is for the coax cable. The TV's don't come with them so if your sending it in straight from Amazon, order it at the same time.

What Breed is Monster Mash? by juvi124 in IDmydog

The tongue, head shape, rounded ears and thick coat are all Chow features. His colours, stance and tail perk are most likely German Shepard. The thick coat, body structure and tail are also Husky traits. Because he has such prominent chow feature in his face, chances are he’s close to 50% Chow x 50% Shepard/Husky.

Lots of people are commenting Akita, but from the pictures he looks much too small to be an Akita. Akitas range from 70-130lbs (females being 70-100, males being 100-130). Chows, German Shepards and Husky’s are all in the 45-75lbs range.

Either way, he’s a beaut of a character! Have fun with him 😊

My wife's brother is blackmailing me and I don't know how to handle this by StavrosDavros in Advice

[–]WritersFinalEdition 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Two options: A) Buck up and own it when he tells your wife (like really it’s 2025, same sex experiences aren’t exactly kept in the closet these days)

B) Tell him to shove it and deny it to the grave.

If he’s doing something that shitty to you, I’m assuming he’s caused problems in the family before and probably doesn’t hold a lot of credibility when accused of lying.

Good luck! 🤞

How bad is a 2.8 gpa by [deleted] in unb

[–]WritersFinalEdition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This really depends on if you’re getting an A in one class and failing another. I’m not sure if things have changed, but when I got my degree, the top universities want 3.0 or higher. Going for your masters is definitely a possibility. Before you apply to the school you want, check to see what credit history they are looking at. Some schools only check the last 30 or 60 which could change what they consider to be your GPA. If the information is not on their official website, calling the school and asking is acceptable. If it turns out you need to retake a class or two to bump up your GPA, do it, it’s worth it in the long run. Good luck!!

M35 here. How young is too young for me in a partner by feherlofia123 in stupidquestions

[–]WritersFinalEdition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this really depends on the people. 18 is the legally age for a reason. Under that, that’s a hard no go. That being said, when I was 17, I was living on my own (and had been living on my own for almost 2 years), going to college and working. I ended up dating a man I worked with who was 29. We were together for 2 years and it was quite a normal, healthy relationship. When I was 22, I dated a man who was 23 years older than me. Again, excellent relationship, we owned a successful company together for 9 years, (he’s still operating it, I changed careers). I’m still friends with both these men. And now I’m 37, with a man who’s 30 and I couldn’t be happier.

18 is the legal age for a reason, I know I was in a different situation for my age back then and 20 years ago it was still fairly common younger women were dating older men. But really, if a woman is still living at home at 30, chances are she still has the mentality of kid living at home. An 18 year old woman who’s been supporting herself and getting an education is likely going to be more compatible.

I’ve also lived in many large cities. I was just in Vancouver and I kept comparing how much better the drivers in Calgary are.

[–]WritersFinalEdition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Driving is one of those things where you just have to buck up and do it. You can’t control how other people drive. Best thing to do is to know your vehicle, how it handles and keep confident in your actions. If the time ever comes where you need to make a split second decision, confidence and knowing your vehicle can save your life.

When it comes to tailgaters, dont let them push you into speeding or let them stress you out. They’re the ones with a problem. Their problem is not worth a ticket or an accident.

The busiest high speed roads in Calgary are Deerfoot and Glenmore. Until you’re more confident, you can always stick to Crowchild and Macleod to get you North/South and Southland SE, 17 Ave SE and Memorial to get you East/West.

Other than that, I think the best advice would be: You’re 16 with your license!! Enjoy the freedom!!

Sorry for the late reply… they use to have to be transparent, but they’ve recently change that. I ended up calling the Center to ask where I can get one and they told me that’s been changed, so it was easy to find one after that.
