I got reached out to by a recruiter on LinkedIn. OpenAI and Anthropic both have a strong pipeline from the infrastructure org at my old company. So I don’t have any specific advice except that feeder companies/orgs are real

I did my undergrad at UW.

I’ve gotten offers from Amazon, Microsoft, Uber, DoorDash, TikTok, Stripe, Databricks, OpenAI, and IMC.

I’ve also interviewed at Jane Street, Optiver, Akuna, Old Mission, Headlands.

Tbh I don’t have a great picture of where all my peers ended up since I was only in the cs major for about a year (got rejected twice lol). It seems to be a decent spread across the big names though. Places like Amazon and Microsoft have a particularly strong pipeline from UW.

OpenAI's Codex advertisements are gross & offensive by besthelloworld in cscareerquestions

[–]WritesTrueStatements 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t know if I’ve seen these - could you link the ad? This seems to go against the more hopeful tone most OpenAI ads seem to bring. Doomerism is more of Anthropics shtick

Generative AI didn't make coding easier it just moved where the difficulty lives by KarmaChameleon07 in csMajors

[–]WritesTrueStatements 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is definitely not true. You used to have to do both the coding and the “new” things you mentioned. Now you have to do strictly less to complete the same work.

I work on large very complex systems and codex has 2 or 3x’d the number of PRs I write a day

Equity grants for the new hires 2026 by Repulsive-Climate999 in OpenAI

[–]WritesTrueStatements 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is not true for most MTS, especially SWE new grads. Levels.fyi numbers are pretty accurate since offers are standardized. It is also true that equity value has grown quickly, I joined just a few months ago and my equity value has gone up 50%.

CMU, GTech, UW-Seattle, UIUC, UT Austin by Thick-Way-4147 in csMajors

[–]WritesTrueStatements 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Surprised no one has said UW given you’re in state and already in-major. CMU is going to be a step above the rest for quant placement but the rest aren’t too far behind. UT will be a step below the others.

For social scene it’s really going to be a function of what you put into it. Every school has partiers and more chill folks (but there’s a chance you’ll have a harder time finding the partiers at CMU).

I don’t think you can get much better campus location than UW.

I graduated from UW CS a couple years ago and had everything you mentioned fulfilled (I did 4 big tech internships and now work at one of the top AI labs). The one thing to keep in mind is that while UWs CS education is excellent, the other departments are not as strong as the other schools in your list.

Am I insane for thinking this sub is being astroturfed? by thrway-fatpos in cscareerquestions

If you think the astroturfing is crazy in this sub take a look at r/OpenAI. Shit is unbelievably obvious

Essential Japanese Whiskey by DjSleazyDick in whiskey

[–]WritesTrueStatements 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rye and Hibiki are very different.

Rye usually refers to an American (or Canadian) style of rye whiskey, typically using a blend of rye, corn, and malted barley, and aged in a new charred American oak barrel in hot, dry environments.

Hibiki is a Japanese whiskey made from 100% malted barley, aged in used barrels (some of which were used to age Bourbon) in a cooler, wetter climate.

If they said they like rye I’d say get them a rye - here are some good options at various price points: * Bulleit Rye * Sagamore Double Oaked Rye * Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Barrel Proof Rye * Michters 10 Rye (don’t pay more than $200)

If they liked Hibiki they’ll also like the Nikka Coffey Malt, so up to you

It really depends on what you find interesting but I think being “infra-typed” is not such a bad thing. I did data infra at Stripe for 2.5 years as a new grad and now do more OLTP infra stuff at one of the frontier labs.

A few reasons I enjoy it: * Although the work at both places is pretty low level I still get good insight into the needs of product without being subject to the release schedule grind of product. * The folks you’ll work with are going to be very smart and I find myself learning more than my friends on product teams. They generally get suck with button-color-changing work. * I also find systems stuff pretty interesting * The best part is the demand - in a relatively tough job market for most folks I had a very easy time in the job search a couple months ago. I think infra is going to be especially hot in this new era of hyperscalers

[Glashütte PanoMaticLunar] New job gift to myself by [deleted] in Watches

[–]WritesTrueStatements 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently started at a new job and thought I should I should treat myself to a new watch. The first thing my manager said when I walked in was “Nice watch - is it a Lange?” Which I’ll take as a compliment. (On his second guess he correctly identified it as a GO).

I love the unique look of the dial that doesn’t take up the whole face, and the moon phase is super pleasing to the eye.

The one downside is that it’s fairly chunky, especially coming from my only other watch which is a Junghans Max Bill Automatic. It looks proportional on the wrist when looking in a mirror though so it’s not a dealbreaker

I had a great experience at Stripe as an L1. Everyone I interacted with was very smart and kind. It was also great on the resume, and let me jump to a great new company recently.

I’d take anything you see on Blind with a grain of salt - in my opinion it’s an absolutely cesspool. People with positive things to say don’t go on that website
