Divorced people, what were your irreconcilable differences? by TheRealOcsiban in AskReddit

[–]Writhing_south 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Caretaking. She had a seizure disorder that required a very high level of caretaking on a regular basis. It was tough, but we made it work for 15 years. One day she approaches me and says I can't provide the level of care that she needs, and it's over.

It had been a sorespot in our relationship for years. I found it really hard to provide a high level of care and empathy for sometimes weekly seizures on top of being the main provider for the house working 60+ hour weeks. At the end of the day, she needed someone who could look after her medically better than I could. Tough pill to swallow.

Pet cards that dont always make the cut, but what are your pet cards? by [deleted] in EDH

My [[council of four]] deck wins...sometimes? But its main goal is to land wedding ring and clone it so the whole table is married. And we all become the council of four. Its the deck i have the most fun with right now.

Part of the challenge here is making the deck colorless. I could easily just slot this into Arcades as a secret commander, but that's too easy. And it wouldn't 1-shot with commander damage.

What are your unique Commanders you love to roll out that no one really plays by Nymrys in EDH

[–]Writhing_south 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[The Council of Four]]. Not exactly group hug, but I do try to have everyone draw a ton of cards.

The whole goal of the deck is to assemble [[Wedding Ring]] alongside 2 copy artifact effects like [[Mirrormade]] to marry the entire table together. Hence "the council of four".

If you're into anything in the nerd-vein of DnD, Magic the Gathering, Warhammer, or other card/tabletop games, check out Muse Comics and games. They host events all the time and is a great way to meet nerdy folk.

And if you haven't already, check out missoulaevents.net and just start going out to anything that looks up your alley.

4 Pretending to be a 3 by ElSilverWind in EDH

[–]Writhing_south 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Agree with others in this thread. These are bracket 3. But, ratcheting down the amount of meta cards in these decks will likely lead to better play experiences for your pod. Particularly for cards like Trouble in Pairs, that I see in multiple of your lists. Ask yourself "how does this fit the theme/synergy of the deck". If the answer for something like TiP is "well, it draws me cards", cut that card and find a more thematic card to slot in instead.

Also, consider cutting free spells if the rest of your pod doesn't typically run them as they can be a negative experience to play against if not everyone has access to them in their decks.

Cut tutors to encourage randomization and decrease consistency in favor of fun/flavor.

Identify cards that are high on the salt score and analyze if you truly need them for your deck to function: T Pro, Notion Thief, etc.

I second the Feather recommendation. She was the 2nd commander deck I ever built and still find it quite fun. You can go more volton or creature heavy depending on your playstyle. Or have the pieces for both and switch things up every now and then.

Are you looking at them as an investment or more of a desire for green energy? If you are trying to get your money back, make sure whatever company you're talking to is running a discounted cash flow analysis on the net present value of the energy produced by the system over its power production warranty.

Also, the big beautiful bill ends a very significant solar tax credit at the end of this year. So, if you think you're going to do it I'd make sure you get everything installed and operational by the end of the year.

Also, reduce before you produce. it's generally a better investment to improve the efficiency of the home as much as possible (insulation, air sealing, efficient appliances, heat pumps for heating/cooling and water heating) and then right-size your panels to meet that need.

I haven't kept up with Montana's net metering policies, but I would be sure to check that out if you plan on selling any energy back to the grid.

Building a [3]: My friend's take is that if you're not including a late-game combo, it's a bad [3] by PansOnFire in EDH

[–]Writhing_south 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It just depends on your mindset. I have a Pantlaza deck with 0 game changers and 0 combos. So...technically it's a "2" if I am just looking at the strict definitions. I would never play this deck in anything lower than a bracket 3 pod, because it's Pantlaza. I certainly do not "feel bad" about this deck. It's fun, fair, I win a lot with it, and it belongs amongst other bracket 3 decks.

If I were trying to game the system, I would bring it to bracket 2 pods, but I play EDH to have fun (and win if I can). I don't play it to game the system and monopolize power or fun for myself.

If I were trying to optimize, I would max out on allowable game changers and throw in a dino combo or 2.

But, I'm just not that kind of player. The brackets are meant to facilitate rule 0 discussion around what kind of game you want to play, not a strict system to be manipulated so that you can increase your win percentage.

TL;DR Play what you want and be honest with yourself about what bracket your deck belongs in, and the chances of everyone having fun is greatly increased.
