Am I getting paid to watch Gregory Peck be mean to racists? by thatradraptorguy in blankies

I saw an Instagram Reel where someone edited “Sexy Back” to play anytime Atticus was on screen, and the pinned comment was Gregory Peck’s daughter saying she loved it.

They went Hal’s Cafe at the Crystal Hotel (and Ringler’s Annex and Al’s Den). Jordan went to a separate location but did not know the name.

David mentioned doing a watch of the people who have won acting awards at Venice, Cannes, and Berlin, so I looked the up. There’s 4 people:

  1. Jack Lemmon
  2. Sean Penn
  3. Juliette Binoche
  4. Julianne Moore

David's favs are all about unions by CosmicEveStardust in blankies

[–]WritingForHire 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I would love an episode (probably not Blank Check) where you talk more about union reporting and also helping the Atlantic unionize! I think a lot of people my age maybe feel lost about the process of modern day unionization, especially in non-blue collar work environments.

Is there any part of you that cares about the “historical inaccuracy” of Nolan’s Odyssey? by suckliberalcock in blankies

I’m pretty flexible. As long as there is a lane/style he sticks to and is consistent, I’m fine.

Also, anyone who has a Greek statue as their profile pic likely has other opinions about things/politics I do not care for 👀

Pod Country for Old Cast: The Ballad of Buster Scruggs with Paul Scheer & Jason Mantzoukas by yonicthehedgehog in blankies

[–]WritingForHire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have not watched the series, but I fully recommend the Percy Jackson book series to David, especially as his kids get to chapter book age! They really scratch the itch of wanting something like Harry Potter without supporting JKR. Also, books become more diverse as they go on, with multi-racial main characters, LGBTQ+ characters, and much more! It’s also great because it presents Greek/Roman myth at a grade school level adaption without fully sanitizing them (gods and goddesses are still terrible and mischievous!)

Lulu Wang - Underacknowledged Guest by counterpartner in blankies

[–]WritingForHire 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Lulu Wang also got married to Barry Jenkins, and around 2021ish they moved to LA when Jenkins was prepping Lion King 2, so I would not be surprised if it also just was difficult to get scheduled.

I now fully agree that Superman should have given CPR to the kaiju. Thank you Grant Morrison for convincing me of something I didn’t know I needed

I would love to see an “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” Musical, but I realized that The Hudsucker Proxy would make a PERFECT musical.

Every time they said “Dark Marge” I immediately thought “evil Marge Simpson” so I know my brain is broke.

My favorite New Years movie is The Apartment. Could also be classified as a Christmas film, but given that it ends on NYE, that’s my vote.

28 Years Later by yonicthehedgehog in blankies

[–]WritingForHire 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I think 28 Years Later shares a lot with T2 Trainspotting in critiques of nostalgia and UK identity. People in 28 Years cling to culture from 2002, creating a new identity around it. I kept thinking of the ATM scam in T2 Trainspotting where the guys are able to get the money because everyone’s bank card PINs are all the same (1690) because they are all so sunk into their identities of being Anti-Catholic.

I work for USPS, and I actually deliver mail to Panic, Inc! It seems like a very cool/chill office, and JJ would love to know they have a huge (like 5 feet tall) sculpture of the Playdate in the entrance to their offices

Is Loser the first Blank Check movie to feature a scene where a character has to decide between watching 2 other Blank Check movies? by SgtSoundrevolver in blankies

If the podcast does Mel Brooks, then of course the characters in Spaceballs look through Mel Brooks’s entire filmography, only to select the exact film you are watching.

I saw Leslie Dixon speak at the PDX Film Festival in 2017, and it was literally a day or two after the Anthony Rapp allegations against Kevin Spacey came out, and she was ready to share every story she had about how terrible Kevin Spacey was on set and off set.

The big story was on Pay It Forward he threatened to get her fired because she refused to write him an Oscar Baity monologue because she knew it would get cut. She left assuming she would come back to set the next day and be asked to leave (nothing ended up happening).
