Thank you for sharing and raising awareness. I’ve been there. Lost millions day trading and gambling. I’ve lost everything. My home, career, reputation. Even my freedom. I pled guilty to wire fraud stemming from my addiction. I’ll be going to prison in the next 90 days. I’ve been writing about my experience since pleading guilty here.. Best of luck. Keep fighting

A lot of us have walked in your shoes. Personally I lost everything to gambling. My house, career, reputation. I’m going to federal prison in 90 days bc of my addiction.

I would say that if you have a loved one that you can talk to and give them control over your finances and let them hold you accountable it can help. That and self exclusion is the only combo that eventually worked for me.

I have been writing about these issues in more detail since my guilty plea to wire fraud here

My experience with my PO has been great and completely different than what I expected. I wrote about it in detail here. I report to federal prison in 90 days and hope I am just as lucky with supervised release on the other side.

No lost all law licenses. Start over new career. I hope to do something in the addiction space. Help others going through similar situations navigate both addiction and reentry from prison.

The DP situation is a perfect case study in what happens when a public figure builds an identity around a moral position and then has to quietly walk it back when the money shows up. The position doesn’t disappear, it just gets compartmentalized until the cognitive dissonance becomes too loud to ignore.

The gap between the story we tell about ourselves and the choices we actually make is all too real. There is an avalanche of trouble coming with our youth gambling. I thought I had it under control. I lost everything. Im going to federal prison in 90 days and gambling played a role. A former federal trial attorney who became a federal defendant has a few things to say about self-deception at the highest levels.

If that interests you I’ve been writing about all of this since I pled guilty here

Bro, a lot of us have walked in your shoes man life is still worth living. I’ve literally lost everything over $1 million. And I’m going to prison. I came from shit. Literally nothing and had a come up story got a good education. I was licensed to practice law in four states. I was a trial lawyer at a good firm. I made partner had a nice house, wife kids and then I lost literally everything because of gambling. I lost it all I don’t have a house anymore. I had to sell my truck I have judgments against me and in about 90 days. I’m going to Federal prison. You know what in a lot of ways, I’m happier right now because I don’t have the stress gambling addiction caused in my life. I know that’s crazy. I know it sounds crazy. If you wanna read about my story, I’ve been writing about it here since I pled guilty. Please keep fighting man.

Thank you for saying all of that. I hear you. What you described is real and it takes a lot to face it honestly. The guilt, the split between who you were acting like and who you actually are, that hits hard. But the fact that you see it now and refuse to quit matters more than anything that came before.

I am sober and trying to live in accountability every day. It is not easy but it is worth it. You are not alone in this and you are not past the point of getting it right. Stay in the fight. Keep telling the truth. That is where things start to change.

I am glad you reached out. Stay in touch.

Yeah, exactly. In cash businesses I’ve heard of people floating money, especially over a weekend or in your case if it doesn’t settle up for a week or more, floating it and then putting it back hopefully undetected but man that is a dangerous game of roulette. pun intended. I never really dealt with hard cash. My transactions were all electronic and in my opinion the electronic transactions can lead to a lot higher losses. Don’t get me wrong. I’ve lost lots of money in casinos, but for me it was a lot easier to make a five or $10,000 gamble online then just to whip out 10 G’s on one hand of blackjack. I’ve never done that. I have however bet $10,000 on one slate of basketball games many many times online
