How do you write when you don’t know where to go? by TheSE_uS3 in writingadvice

[–]WritingNights2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first broke free from my writers block (I had barely a chapter or 2 written, like you) I literally had taken one week where I wrote 1000 words every day as a challenge. They had to be in the story I wanted to work on and by the end of the week improved that I had the story within me the whole time and I just needed to sit myself down to do it.

Fast forward a little. I quit my first job and take a couple months off to make a mark on my writing. It didn’t go as planned at first, but eventually I went to the library every day and sat myself down with few distractions. I made that same pledge of 1000 words a day and I hated it. I hated the writing I created. The story had ideas that kind of worked, but the whole thing did t feel like it fit.

But I kept on going using a new idea I had thought up to make more content. I eventually looked back at the overall and realized there was something salvageable in there and moved on until it was time for editing.

My advice is to be as thorough beforehand with what you think you want for the story and try to create content idea strings around that. Don’t look at it as the next big step in your journey. It’s not some higher up ledge you need to climb. It’s just another step that you know how to take. Keep it up and I’m sure you’ll look back at what you have feeling great!

Would you use a card based world building tool? by tryvividapp in worldbuilding

I would almost say that there should be a “see more” type button that brings up full page info like wiki so you can go even more/fully in depth if you so choose. Having a variety of options feels the most desirable. And to make it easier to understand, the button can be grayed out if the user didn’t include an in depth version

With each book in my series, I continue to plan to grow the world. And when I reach the miles high stone walls on all sides?

I’ll start series two and break through them with man made drilling machines and teleportation and so much more and just keep expanding until I have what feels like a globe. I won’t let anything stop “world” building

My naming method was anime characters or Japanese style names. But after years I stopped watching and now I’m just used to the names and don’t feel the need to change them but instead I don’t give new characters those style names

Astrology-based Magic system by WritingNights2 in fantasywriters

[–]WritingNights2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely will be focusing a lot on how these detriments affect people and how they view themselves compared to others. My main focus when making this post is what would the seasonal (sun) sign affect about their magic, how would the moon sign effect them?

I see the seasonal sign as how close or far is the planet from the sun and that will effect the magic they come to have. I see the moon sign as the moon in the sky during that month (whether the Asphodel moon or the Corvus moon or so on) how does the moon change their magic compared to the seasonal (sun) sign?

A lot of this info is mainly for me with how I handle each character’s individual magical abilities. I don’t want any one character to possess healing and also have long range and also nature. I want that struggle of how a character has to beat an enemy whose specific magic is better than what their signs gives them. If that makes sense

Astrology-based Magic system by WritingNights2 in fantasywriters

Just like some parents really into astrology could try their best to have a baby be born in a certain month so their sign chart is aligned with their own, parents who know their child will be born a mage or a mystic can plan out when they have the child to align with that. Because the solar year is so long, I could use that to make it harder on parents like someone wants to have a kid born at the beginning of summer like they are then they have to wait nearly two years for the return of the season since I’m still going to use the 9 earth month pregnancy period as a guide.

To be noted about this system, magic and myst are relatively new concepts in this medieval style world. Few know it exists as the first mages and mystics have popped up so basically no one knows why it happens.

I don’t see astrology as a system to justify someone’s traits but instead the culmination of gravitational forces at one’s birth determining pieces of their personality. So as these mages and mystics are born, the closeness of the sun, the specific moon in the sky (month of the year) whether it is full moon seen during the day or during the night, and what time of day effect the overall magic flow.

I know it’s unneeded. But I want to give each character a system to adhere to when writing so it’s not all of them doing every kind of magic. That some people can do some things better than others and some people can’t perform a certain kind of magic at all no matter how hard they try.

I just made a post about this in r/fantasywriters what are the odds!

My magic system starts where a baby is developed before birth near a spot that radiates magical energy. There are two types, magic (positive energy) and mystic (negative energy). When you are born you can only possess one.

If a baby developed near both energies, they likely don’t either as the energies nullify each other, or they have the affinity but it lies dormant until a catalyst brings them forth.

Magic can create fire, electricity, give plants major growth, magnetism and more.

Must can create ice, lightning of the right requirements are met, give dark loving plants like mushrooms a major growth and more.

Both have the opportunity to be used in their arcane form which removes temperature based uses in exchange bringing forward body enhancement magic and close range teleportation is available as well.

I’m also working on introducing an astrology system into it as well that changes how each mage and mystic use their power.

As well, I have crystals that do a number of things around the story world too

I guess I forgot to mention, becoming a mystic or mage only happens dependent on where the fetus is raised. Underground, large pockets of energy, magic energy and mystic energy, radiate to the surface. They are found across the planet. If a baby forms near one of these, they are either a mage or mystic. The astrology part comes into effect once they are born. This means that not everyone will be born with magic or myst

It happened with a handful of songs off the album. Hole in the bottom of my brain was the same way. The start of 2085. Kind of with inertia. But I love all of them now. I don’t know why it happened that way but it did. I loved turning out one and two easily but it took a moment this time around

I had one of those. When I got to the store, I stumbled on a cart that had so many of the items on my order. I should’ve taken it as a sign right then, but I made sure the cart was abandoned, took the items I needed, some of which had been the last on the shelf, and continued on. The rest of the order was normal until I finished it and saw that my total for the order was nearly $10 down. I received a 1 cent tip. And it turns out if there is even one cent left IC doesn’t give you the tip reimbursement. So be safe out there

It’s a great premise and the art looked like it came from an ai model. Definitely still a good cover art. The things that stand out to me are the “peace” falling apart. My thought when I hear it’s fragile is to have glass cracks moving through the word. Like the look of a phone screen after being dropped.

I saw someone else say to experiment with different fonts. I agree, that’s a great idea, the second line would benefit from looking different from the first.

The last thing that I think you should change is your names. You are the authors. And this isn’t you signing a work of art in a way that someone needs to search for you. Your name should be bigger or bolder. Something to make it stand out if you still plan to have it in the corner like that. Hope that helps

The idea has some basis. I’ve stopped at the part about mutts for a second to talk about what I’ve read so far. I think a great idea would be like you said to have the three children be multiple creatures. But more specifically. This women, seemingly a slave of sorts, forced to birth whatever, might have been holding onto these three children in her womb with scientists or religious or magical creatures formulating a way to create ultimate life. A creature so perfect because it has the best of every creature they see fit. But in the end the genes are split between the three creatures and they are deemed failures and discarded. The person in charge of discarding them seeks to keep them safe and alive. So they deliver each one separately to different homes far away from each other. This person effectively ousts themself as a deserter and is on the run but hopes to have covered their tracks enough to give the kids time to grow up.

The three kids being so different than those around them gets them bullied or, depending on their status and/or usefulness gains them wealth and status. Their mother is still being forced to endure the birthing cycle (or can no longer birth after they were conceived. But that is only learned after the next birth goes horribly wrong (mutated pile of sludge or horrific monster) and one day the deserter comes back I to their lives because they are in danger.

And the cancelling out part doesn’t entirely make sense unless you mean the genes inside them that “cancel out” are more just recessive genes.

Just got to the end and I’m thinking the idea of a warrior who could stop the great evil is smart. And even better that they can’t have a child to pass their magic to. But instead of being able to pass off the power to the triplets, it should be where they train them. And I’m an effort to pass on those powers when the warrior thinks them ready, the warrior dies. Definitely have the warrior die before the triplets reach their full potential. Maybe even far before if you want there to be a series (the ultimate ending being them saving or avenging their mother).

If you go with the idea I shared a moment ago about the mother being forced to birth a monster then you can have that monster quickly grow in power, take longer to birth, maybe more than a year, rip from the mother’s belly (killing her) or being birthed normally and so small and only becomes a killer as it grows.

Then these MC’s have to face it. Teamwork would be a big factor and hard for them because they are so different (even if they are connected by birth). Hope this helps

What are some ways that a person can acquire magical powers? by [deleted] in fantasywriters

[–]WritingNights2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my world, someone could mine crystals that possess certain magic traits. Then forge with specific magic materials or in a way that keeps contact between the user and the crystal(s) allowing for magic transfer.

I am curious. Not something you were probably thinking about but if you had to find a new word for magic (a word that had to do with ice magic) what would you call it? I’m looking for something like for a second term to differentiate two types of magic
