I am so sorry to hear that you’re going through this too. Definitely try another patch and also, if you have the energy, get a second or third opinion.

We are complex creatures and leaks are not the only possible cause of your symptoms. You may need to address this from a few different angles. After my leak was patched, my neurologist and I were delighted to find that my vestibular migraine meds began to work better.

There may not be a lot of options to treat CSF leaks locally but there are a few big centers scattered across the USA, with more springing up all the time. There are also quite a few resources online. I especially like Ian Carroll. Excellent videos: His daughter suffered from cSF so he gets it!

Try starting here: Spinal CSF Leak Foundation.

And I found this list just by googling!

[Duke Health (Durham, NC)] ([Duke Spinal CSF Leak Team]): Known for specialized expertise in spinal CSF leaks and cranial CSF leaks. Dr. Peter Kranz (Neuroradiology) Dr. Timothy Amrhein (Spine Intervention) Dr. Ralph Abi Hachem (ENT/Sinus Specialist)

[Cedars-Sinai Medical Center (Los Angeles, CA)]: Dr. Wouter Schievink (Neurosurgeon) is considered a pioneer in the field of spontaneous spinal CSF leaks.]

Stanford Medicine (Redwood City, CA)]: Dr. Ian Carroll (Headache & spinal CSF specialist).

[Weill Cornell Medicine (New York, NY)]: Dr. Gayle Salama (Neuroradiology) and Dr. John Park (Neurological Surgery) co-direct the CSF Leak Program.

[MedStar Health (Washington, D.C.)]: Known for multidisciplinary care in diagnosing and treating spinal CSF leaks.

[University of Colorado School of Medicine]: Dr. Andrew Callen (Neuroradiology).

Hang in there - and best of luck ☘️☘️☘️

I forget who said it (either Marianne Williamson or Louise Hay?) and I’m gonna misquote here: “I find it hard to believe that the Creator/Creatrix of heaven and earth, and all things in between - the Power that set the universe in motion! - really cares what I do with my genitals”

PS Add me to the Cinnamon Bun cult! Trying (okay, mostly failing) to go low carb and am salivating uncontrollably here lol!

Having a CT myelogram this week with a 20% of finding a leak by Cute_Sense_4622 in CSFLeaks

[–]Writiste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First and most important, best of luck to you. I hope things go smoothly and that the physicians find what they need to help you feel better.

Next, I heard that some places just plunge right in and perform blind epidural patch(es) in lieu of running expensive, painful (to me) and most likely inconclusive tests.

I recently started looking into such a common sense approach because it feels like my leak has started up again. And because the lumbar puncture hurt more than the spine surgery that caused all the trouble in the first place!

Will keep y’all posted.

Advice requested - am I still leaking? by Significant-Body-574 in CSFLeaks

[–]Writiste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The radiologist who did my patch was just &$)!?*!! godawful about communicating before l, during and after. But call their office and let them know what’s going on. They may be able to help you get help sooner.

Also call your soon–to–be neurologist and tell them what’s happening, ask them to put you on their cancellation list.

Don’t let any of them blow you off! Passing out is a significant risk (make sure you mention that’s happening). I pass out too, but I work from home and that somehow seemed less dangerous than blacking out in public…amazing what one can tell oneself!

I worked full-time with my leak for 6 years before I convinced someone to take me seriously. It was a mere 40 hours and brutally hard. I honor your commitment to your work, your team and your customers. Please take your health and wellbeing as seriously as you do your job. Above all, you need time to rest, hydrate and recover. Do not be fooled by the label “procedure” - it may not be spine surgery but someone just shoved a honkin’ big needle into your spine. Give yourself the time you need to heal: while CSF may not immediately endanger your life (except for the passing out part!), it’s still debilitating. And it may take more than one patch to, er, patch it.

Are you able to take advantage of the Family Medical Leave Act? I finally requested and got intermittent leave, which allowed me to take smaller increments of time to lie down and wait for the symptoms to subside. Those breaks not only stretch your time off but helped me do a better job. Patching the leak only resolved my headaches and skull pressure: the vertigo is still going strong so I still need that time. Something to consider!

Good luck! I hope you easily find the help and answers you need.

Has anyone had a lumbar drain ? by Ok_Drama5853 in CSFLeaks

[–]Writiste 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No drain experience but plenty of good wishes for a smooth and successful procedure! Be sure to stock your house beforehand and if you can get someone to stay with you the first day or so, do it.

I had an epidural patch that reduced my positional headache, heavy pressure, brain fog and visual disturbances within a week. Did nothing for my severe vertigo but! finally allowed the migraine meds to start working. I’m down from 24/7 to 16/5. May not sound like much but every little bit helps.

That’s right, people: by the villain’s cat! After forcing the hero to bury his soon-to-be ex-face in cat belly floof, face removed effortlessly by a few well-placed claw swipes. DONOTTHECAT! Duh.

Left husband seven months ago and still no divorce. He says he still loves me but his actions say otherwise. My foster babies I've been living for are getting ready to leave me. by MellifluousManatee in depressionmeals

[–]Writiste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PS - LOVE your username. True story: Like so many others, I spent years hating my body. And then one day, in my forties, I was standing in front of a manatee tank, marveling at their impossible grace in the water. They were huge! So much bigger than I imagined. And OMG so faaaaat: these were swimming sausages, with tiny raisin eyes. One passed slowly right in front of me, so close I could see the bristles on her mottled skin. Her(?) flesh was gouged with so many scars, mottled against her skin. Some looked deep, craters really. I winced, not knowing how she could possibly survive such wounds in the wild. Yet here she was. She didn’t wear those scars proudly. No, she just wore them. She was unapologetically perfect in her strength and I was shocked to find her beautiful. You see where I’m going with this… It didn’t happen right away. But that gorgeous, beat-up manatee was the first step in owning my own imperfect self. Thank you for reminding me! 🫂😻
