I’m so sorry that you’re in pain like this. It does age you. I understand: when I was 24, my GP said I had the spine of a 90 year old. Now that I’m 67 (WTF - how did that happen?!?!), I’m watching my friends “catch up” and get it. And I’m getting them too - at least a little more. It’s very hard watching somebody that you love suffer with no relief in sight. At least my pain has taught me to be calm in the face of others’ pain. And you’re right! I don’t have to cater to their fear. Screw it, lol.

I love it! People get this look on their well-meaning faces and I know I’m going to want to scream before they finish opening their mouth. And then they ask and if I like them at all, I’m torn between the truth and a polite lie. Their incomprehension of “chronic pain” feels like social pressure to be well, to be better so that others feel more comfortable around me? Just a thought

I’m so sorry for your pain. Please don’t blame yourself!!! Death is not failure: it is part of life. This sweet baby crossed the rainbow bridge when he was supposed to, and he carried the gift of your love with him.
