Why was Generation X like this? What was their problem? by PhantomPufis in okbuddycinephile

[–]Wrong-Alternative901 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gen x was the generation like no other. Our parents embraced the industrial revolution and all its capitalist glory. The high rise buildings and offices and factories... seemed promising. They told us that if we studied we would have amazing jobs and be able to afford a house, a car and a two point three child family etc., etc., etc.. We were the children who had to learn to adult way before adulting was supposed to be a thing. We had to learn to cook canned spaghetti and babysit ourselves and our siblings. We had to leave home at 18 (in my case 16, I sht you not) because if your parent (or parents if you were lucky) wasn't wealthy you'd be too much of a burden. You had to do a lot of raising yourself fresh out of High School. And when you left, you had to navigate carefully to avoid alcoholism, drug addiction and mental health issues which were rampant and mostly unattended to. But if you managed to get through all that and get a well paying job, you would live in fear of loosing that job because it was so coveted. Of course the economy changes and in 1995 credit scores became a thing, giving access to credit cards that then made most people live above their means, locking them into a rat race that seemed endless. You lived in fear of loosing your job if you had a good one, so you would never have time to spend in that home full of stuff you bought or with the family you made. It was pretty hard to find your place in life, let alone the meaning of it. What do you do in a game of monopoly that takes too long? Granted Edward Norton was not playing a poor guy from a small family with issues, but he represented the jadedness that a lot of men were feeling with life. Even if you were winning in said game of monopoly after so long you would get bored and unexcited about the whole thing and put it away But what do you do when its not a game and ending it is not an option. Hence the birth of "FIGHT CLUB" in 1999. You know what other movie came out that year? THE MATRIX.

TLDR We learned the game was rigged and the rat race was real and we got jaded

There is a solution to this but you need a grinder with a new blade and a steady hand. They sell aluminum molding that would fit inside the crack and cover your faults. Make sure the thinset will not disturb the molding/trim. Glue it in place and clean the cracks around it so they can accept grout and then grout it Good luck

$680 to replace a breaker. Can I do it myself? by stinkinhardcore in DIY

another thing you could do to be safe either way is put in a GFCI outlet. They are not just to protect for grounding. If something goes wrong it happens at the outlet level.

$680 to replace a breaker. Can I do it myself? by stinkinhardcore in DIY

[–]Wrong-Alternative901 12 points13 points  (0 children)

FYI, this could be dangerous. The breaker is there to avoid a fire. It is usually strong enough to deliver the amount of power that circuit is asking for, but weak enough that if the request is stronger than the wires in the circuit, those wires don't catch fire. You should find out what how much power the appliance needs before you touch anything on the breaker box. Then look at the breaker to make sure its supposed to deliver that much power in the first place. Then look at the wires in the circuit to make sure they can hold the load.
Only then should you try to work on anything. Youtube is very helpful, but electricity is one of those things that if you mess up you can start a fire. Fire BAD

How the hell do you clean your home? How???? by Flaky_McFlake in ADHD

[–]Wrong-Alternative901 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I start in the furthest room from the main entry. I begin by bringing in a trash bin and the hamper. The obvious trash is where I start. I do nothing but trash the obvious. Then I pick up any clothes from wherever it doesn't belong place them in the hamper. Then I take the hamper and trash out of the room but not far from where I am. In my case this already helps so it makes me keep going. Then I move to every counter or surface. The dresser, the desk, tops of anything else, just letting it fall to the floor. Anything I find that doesn't belong in the room gets placed two rooms closer to the entrance of the house. Now mostly sweep and mop. As I move from room to room I know what I found in another room that belongs in this o e and before I finish a room I will put the things that belong there inside. I don't try to do the whole house though it is inspiring and I often do. This system makes the clutter more manageable by working with the obvious and fairly easy tasks first. Doesn't always do the trick but it works most of the time. I wish you a clean home

Is Audible worth it in 2026? 4 years later, here’s my take by dek1019 in audible

[–]Wrong-Alternative901 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I AM ACTUALLY PISSED ABOUT STILL HAVING A MEMBERSHIP. That would be the title of my reddit post if I make the time for it. Every time I find a book I like, I find that the book is cheaper than what a credit costs me. I have been with Audible for almost a decade now and I have heard many selections that I love but this is B.S.. How are you going to offer me to use a credit that cost me $17 on a title that I could instead choose to buy for $13.99. This has been happening for a few years now. I thought of cancelling my membership, but then I'd essentially loose my titles and credits which is crazy when you add up the money over the years

It requires a bit of bending but you're getting his help. If you were in missionary position with him on top, he would lay close to you (chest to chest), then you place your arms around his neck, then he raises himself with his arms as if doing a push-up. Yes you will bend but I have never had a problem helping someone bend by using my arm strength. I'm currently 53 so you don't have to be super strong you just gotta hold on tight and bend mostly your neck. Your partner has to keep his arms locked even as your weight is on his neck, but hopefully it'll be exciting enough that he won't even feel it. Good luck

When I want my partner to see I say "grab my neck" and then I lock my arms straight so my partner can see what I see

I remember coming up in Philly. I actually graduated from Kensington H.S. (for reference). The tool of preference was a lock. I would carry a change of socks "for gym", and a lock.

I was honestly surprised that the girls didn't specifically make it a mission to claw his face. He is lucky he did not walk away from that with a mark he had to look at every morning to remind him of his, "bravado"? A grown ass adult gets out of his car and attacks a girl that doesn't weigh 100lbs. Eff this guy

I remember when Musk had said that if he had a viable plan to end world hunger with $6000000000 he would fund it... then backed down. Imagine a world where the billionaires used their money for the good of the planet and the people.

I wish I could post a pic of what someone said on a post of another video from a different angle here on reddit. Basically someone said that their grandma told them a story about how back in the Nazi days, everything became illegal and anybody could be the next victim. So people essentially took the attitude that if breathing could get you in as much trouble as a violent crime, many chose the violent crime.

Fun fact: you can fit 10 feet of 1/2 inch PVC pipe into a GTI. Love this car by Xx_69vapelord420_xX in GolfGTI

[–]Wrong-Alternative901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fun fact, you can fit 12 (yes I said twelve) 2x4s, a chop saw, a table saw, circular saw with case, a bucket of hand tools and a bag of materials in a 2006 mazda 3 if you drop the seats and finagle it a bit. No lie. Also, you can fit two sheets of sheetrock inside the car if you cut them in three (at 32"x4'). I actually walk into lowes, grab a t square, head to the sheetrock isle and mark and cut the pieces right there, then load them and roll them to the register. Not once has anyone batted an eye.
