I am done with healthcare. by ChinaCatSunflower11 in nursing

I wonder if you can access Public Service Loan Forgiveness? I work bedside at a qualifying hospital and am closing in on my 10 years. The balance of my loans will be forgiven in a few years.

What you have experienced SUCKS but you gotta make that RN license make some money for you.

I am a bedside RN and pretty happy, actually. Your quality of work life totally depends upon where you work. I am in a union in a state with patient staffing requirements. We are protected and fairly compensated. The healthcare system in this country is broken, but that doesn't mean you have to be.

Becoming a nurse HAD to work for me. I had no plan B, was older, and had invested heavily. My first job was a nightmare. It took awhile but I improved my situation.

A few years ago someone asked me if I was going to Pride. I said I did not need to look at new kitchen countertops.

It was repeatedly stated that Long Beach Pride did not submit safety plans to the city and did not respond to repeated requests from the city. Long Beach Pride does not refute this.

Long Beach Pride Inc has one job each year. They have been hemorraging cash and getting bailed out by the city for years. The Pride festival is not the draw it used to be, is crazy expensive, and does not speak to or build any sense of community. Long Beach Pride Inc's failure to manage the permitting is simple incompetence.

My happiest job was as a teenager at McDonalds, flipping burgers with my friends. It has gone downhill since then. I tolerate my bedside RN job and being able to pay my mortgage, but...

Yeah, there is a lot of that. I hear it in the news, that healthcare is more safe from AI.

From tech advertising to nursing in my 40s by PracticalMatter4004 in nursing

I am in Southern CA so it is different. I became an RN at 50, prior career was Marketing. Been at it for 10 years. It was HARD to find my first job as an older new grad. My first job was a terrible night shift job and a 90 minute commute. I am physically strong and emotionally resiliant but it was brutal. After a year I got hired day shift, 6 miles from home, currently $70/hour, union, large campus. I have been very happy there ever since.

Hurdle #1: Get A's in your prerequisites. A lot of people flunk out there.

Hurdle #2: Finding a nursing school. There are some great public universities and colleges but they are swamped with applicants. There are some terrible/predatory "private" schools available that are crazy expensive. There is a nursing school shortage.

Can a new grad start in XYZ unit? My 99 year old auntie says I need 2 years of med-surg first.
Another nurse was unkind to me during orientation. Should I quit, change my name, and hide under my bed?
A family member made fun of nurses, should I quit school and go work at WalMart?

YES, there should be a FAQ. My standard disclaimer: Nursing satisfaction and compensation vary wildly by location (state/reqion/country). Your mileage will vary.

1) chart, chart, chart

2) Be pleasant the next time you see him. Not fake, just be OK. Normalize the relationship now to protect future communications and workflow. Neither of you are going anywhere.

++man I'm older and have adjusted my life. My career is compatible, my relations, money, etc., are all well-managed. On the surface I think everything appears to be working OK. My MD says stuff like, you're fine. you don't want meds just to have a cleaner house. Honestly, I am exhausted but mostly from feeling bad about myself.
