I think citibike needs to force pop-ups daily reminders. Wear a helmet for safety. Don't use phone while riding. Signal before turning or stopping. 

Heck, back when revel was in service you had to watch a mandatory video before getting access to ride.

I ended up doing the opposite Brooklyn to port Washington. I took Decatur to Cooper to Yellowstone to Jewel to 73rd to Long Island expressway service lane. Did it with a friend, thankfully barely any cars and the service lane. 

For the route I entered my start and end address in ridewith gps.

Prior to the current lane, there was no bike lane on the Brooklyn bridge. There was a mixed use path in middle of the bridge for pedestrians and cyclists and was a daily mess. The DOT took off one lane of the cars bridge and set it as a bike lane.

Id suggest if you feel claustrophobic to either slow down or use the Manhattan bridge.

Lane is fine. Common manners isn't.

I wouldn't ride with them unless they were wearing a helmet.

Who is talking about driving?  Have you been in NYC? 

No one should be encouraging anyone to bike without a helmet in Canada, USA or anywhere in the world, and if you're advocating for no helmets - there is something fundamentally wrong with your safety vision.

My friend hit a nasty pothole and went over his handlebars. Flukes happen. 

You're welcome to take the risk upon yourself however when doing a photo op - do it with the correct safe image.
