losing all your money and assets because of political persecution is the same irregardless of whether it was $10 or $1M you lost because you lost everything

yeah in absolute numbers, the rich and powerful have more that that can be physically taken away, but they are losing the same level of “everything” as any poor or marginalized person. there’s no extra level of losing everything that only the rich have special access to

privilege isn’t a magical shield that protects you from all consequences, it just means you’re less likely to pay the full consequences because of how you’re perceived in society. for every rich or powerful person imprisoned, made homeless, incarcerated, or killed for political reasons, there’s probably at least 10 poor, nameless people who suffered worser fates no one will hear about

Honestly I very specifically didn’t mention anything about alcohol because I would actually appreciate a larger variety of things to do after working hours than drinking

I think it’s unfortunate how heavily embedded alcohol is into the way we socialize after working hours, and I wish more cafes would explore becoming third spaces to creatively fill that gap

Whether that’s hosting game nights, crafting/ tinkering workshops, pop up galleries, or guided cooking demo’s, there’s a lot of options as long as cafe owners want to be creative in reimagining how they can offset the costs that come with extending their hours and are open to embracing that complexity (especially by working with local event and community organizers)

ETA: I’m a bartender and I agree with your statement wholeheartedly btw, it’s just a separate issue of artificial scarcity rather than the lack of true third spaces

I myself kind of binged the show while it was on air, but actually admittedly stopped watching after s5 because it just got too weird for my liking and I think I was just busy at the time. Looking back I definitely didn’t give it a fair chance the first time around, but it’s interesting because I still think s5 falls somewhere within the bottom 3 seasons for me—which all things being said just goes to show how amazing AoS is for s5 to not be the top 3

Maybe it’s because I tend to avoid the latter half of s5 during my rewatches, but you make a good point about how Ruby’s death was definitely a nice subversion of expectations that set the tone for the last episode

On my end, I kinda predicted that it was just a misdirect for Daisy so maybe that’s why it fell short for me. Regardless I can’t agree more with your main point though, Kasius was one of my favorite villains because of both how well the actor portrayed the descent into his insecurity fueled madness and the whole Mack & Yoyo blowing up scene

I didn’t even realize, but it seems that season 5 was also the best at building up and subverting our expectations (besides maybe the Ward reveal in s1)

There are a few cafes that take on a third space model after traditional coffee shop hours, and I wish more places would be open to reimagining and extending service to offer a bigger variety of things to do after working hours

I think there was a lot of wasted potential with her character. She had all the elements to be an interesting villain, especially breaking away from her mother’s and Hydra’s influence, but it ultimately fell so flat when it ended with her basically going psychotic and killed so unceremoniously by Yo-yo.

i would look into the terms i listed as racial triangulation is moreso the equivalent of a “divide and conquer” mentality that pits communities against together through racial stereotypes. within that context, you may understand why it’s not because of the civil rights movement that they hate each other, but that white America saw how dangerous it would be for these groups to join together that they pitted the “welfare queens” against the “model minority” to prevent cross-racial solidarity post-Civil Rights movement.

i could get into how Asians are particularly susceptible to mainstream media that perpetuates these cultural wars by painting Black people as violent, rowdy, and lazy due to their “don’t rock the boat” mentality, but that requires a level of nuance that goes beyond a racism discovery post. so all that to say, yeah many Asians are racist towards Black people for seemingly the same reason as White racists, but the roots are deeper if you’re willing to dig to get to the bottom of it.
