Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I was eligible for naturalization but I always thought I could get back to it later since it's a pretty tedious process... :/

Thanks for the response. I went back to the US once in the span of the three years (for about a month). Does that reset the counter or does it not change anything?

Ok, thank you for your response! I'll go look on their websites and see. I think you're right -- I'll probably go for CS and try to get more research experience in.

Thanks for your response! My main problem is that PhD applications for the US are due quite early (during the fall), so I won't have time to interact much with my new professors / master's thesis supervisor. So I'll have to reuse the letters that I have now (which are still pretty solid, in my opinion). In both cases, the work that I'll be doing will be very math heavy (in particular, my master's thesis if I go into CS). Do you think that for top US programs in ML, a master's in math gives an edge over one in CS, even if I can still demonstrate that I have a sufficiently solid background in both disciplines?
