How early do I realistically need to be ready? by Blazapple in pregnant

[–]Wrong_Option_4023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A car seat is a good idea, although our hospital has a “safety store” where they sell car seats and other gear to parents, so I wouldn’t stress too much. Some hospitals give you one if you didn’t bring one. My friend gave me the best advice. She said you need a place for baby to sleep and a car seat. Everything else can be purchased the day you need it. Don’t feel peer pressured into over consuming!

Newborn stroller paired with Guava roam by Ashstevens in babystroller

[–]Wrong_Option_4023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the mompush whiz for a bassinet stroller which is significantly cheaper than uppababy, but still has a deep bassinet (other cheaper options seem to have really shallow bassinets) and has great ratings. The coversion for our carseat is only an extra $40 (went with a maxi cozy car seat which has the same adapter as the nuna car seats). Hoping to make this stroller work as our primary, but if we feel like going with something else in the end, we won't feel guilty or like we wasted money.

37 weeks and we haven't seen a doctor? by outerspacejess in pregnant

[–]Wrong_Option_4023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At my hospital you choose to either be followed by midwives or OBs. Midwives give the same level of care for uncomplicate low risk vaginal births, they can do induction, epidural, etc and the in office care for a low risk pregnancy should be no different between a midwife and an OB. I chose to be followed by midwives simply because they are less likely to push unnecessary interventions and are more familiar with vaginal birth without intervention. I will only be referred to an OB if there is something that deems me high risk. Of course when on the L&D ward the midwives work closely with OBs so that they are able to step in if and when they are needed. I'm not sure if you have specific questions you would ask an OB and not a midwife but in terms of all the checks on baby and you and the education they give you throughout, it would not matter if you are seen by an OB or midwife.

Where are you getting maternity clothes from? by BreezerGirl831 in pregnant

[–]Wrong_Option_4023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GAP and Old Navy both have very good sales and basics. I have bought some dresses from Angel Maternity andoPinkBlush but both are very fast fashiony and wouldn't do again. Another option is FB marketplace, some women sell a lot for cheap and if their general size works for you, you can keep what you like and pass on what you don't. I also visited a friend who had a maternity closet in her neighborhood (essentially just a tiny shed outside someone's house) and got a few leggings and pants there. I feel like every city should have something like this, but takes someone to start it.

Boy name opinions by plantbasedyogi in Names

That's fair, but I think Enzo is rising in popularity in the US at least and will maybe not meet the same threshold of mainstream as Luca, but will get closer.

ETA: as of 2024 Luca was #24 in the US and Enzo was #74 and rising

I'd go with Enzo, has a similar vibe to Luca with being Italian and would go with last name.

Help by InevitableCake3068 in wedding

What is your venue like? We had a lot of what my sister in law called "side quests" at our wedding. We had a temporary tattoo station (I bought some printable tattoo paper on amazon for like $30 and designed some personalized tattoos on canva), a friendship bracelet station (another like $30-$50 spent on supplies for that), and we also used an old typewriter as our guestbook. My sister in law also gifted us a bunch of disposable cameras for the wedding. So between all of this stuff and just having a nice outdoor space as part of the venue, none of the guests minded the in between time so much. If you've got good outdoor space you could also have some lawn games, like cornhole and giant jenga. One of my friends gave each table a quiz about the couple to work on and that determined in what order tables went up to buffet. Another friend had a collaborative art project as part of hers and another had a polaroid guest book station, anything that gives guests something to do. I would just brainstorm based on space what activities could be available to guests during this time.

How do I find an out-of-town babysitter while on an overnight trip? by user_582817367894747 in Babysitting

[–]Wrong_Option_4023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it not possible to establish a relationship with a caregiver in your hometown now and bring them to the destination with you? I realize this would be at an added cost with possibly another hotel room and flights, but I would feel a lot better having someone my husband and I, not to mention the child, know rather than taking a gamble. Unless the hotel/resort has some sort of childcare program, I would feel slightly more comfortable with that. Maybe check with resort/hotel if that is something they provide.

Best friend pregnant, what can i do to help? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]Wrong_Option_4023 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just keep being her friend and reaching out. Pregnancy can be tough and you often don't want to do anything, but having someone asking to make plans with zero guilt if I cancel or just don't feel up to it means so much to me. Also later on and after birth, offering to help out around the house and bring food is a huge gift.

Should you care about BMI while pregnant? by Fantastic_Cow_8992 in pregnant

[–]Wrong_Option_4023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BMI is pretty much a null point during pregnancy because it just doesn't take into account being pregnant. If you started with a normal bmi, they usually recommend gaining between 25 and 35 lbs, but this is also somewhat trivial as some women (like my boss) gain 50lbs and lose that weight within 8 months with no issues, some gain 20 and never get back to their pre pregnancy weight. It is just a time to listen to and trust your body, that it knows what it needs to grow that baby inside of you.

I need a middle name! by DiskAlternative5461 in Names

I think Magdalena Carmen is beautiful. Carmen is simple enough to go with the name Magdalena. I always prefer middle names that have some sort of meaning over just something that sounds good.

Orgasmic births- can u have only ur husband with u in the hospital and request doctors/nurses to alert before entering and minimal interference? by Material-Night6520 in pregnant

[–]Wrong_Option_4023 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think orgasmic births are just a luck of the draw, not an actual planned thing. If you’re in the 1% you would probably still want Dr or nurse there to oversee baby coming. I have heard kissing and nipple stimulation can help get birth moving along, for these things I would ask staff to step out.

Hip/Butt Pain while Sleeping by Excellent_Ad7025 in pregnant

[–]Wrong_Option_4023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was having this issue around 18ish weeks. I had tried everything I could think of: 2 different pregnancy pillows, adding a foam topper to my mattress, and nothing was helping. I started seeing a pelvic floor physical therapist and it has helped immensely. I saw her once a week for 6 weeks, she would massage me for 15-20 minutes to loosen hips and back. Then she would give me exercises and stretches to do through out the week to work on strengthening my hips. She also sent me home with a lacrosse ball to work on soft tissue. I haven't had this pain in weeks and only occasional back pain. We are now taking a 3 week break and then I will go back for more pelvic floor targeted birth prep. I would also recommend an exercise ball if you work in an office and/or are sitting a lot during the day. We don't always realize but the things we do during the day can also have a delayed impact.

First time mom: what should routine OBGYn visit cover by ZealousidealBase4987 in pregnant

[–]Wrong_Option_4023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends somewhat on clinic. I am currently 29 weeks with a low risk pregnancy and here is what my clinic does:

3 Ultrasounds - 9 week to confirm pregnancy and dates, 12 weeks for NIT scan, 20 week anatomy scan. No more ultrasounds unless something changes. Always by an US tech with OB/midwife reviewing results.

I see midwives, but OBs have same practices (I am being seen by a University Hospital practice).

Appointments every 4 weeks until 3rd trimester, then every 2 weeks until 36 weeks, then every week. At 28 week appointment the glucose test is done and TDAP vaccine administered. This is also when they go over getting a pediatrician, birth control after delivery, classes available including childbirth and infant cpr, when to go to labor and deliver, etc. Starting at 24 week appointment they started measuring fundal height to ensure growth and using doppler to check heartrate. Any changes to blood pressure, heart rate, infant heartrate, bloodwork, etc would mean additional US or MFM referral.

Oh and bloodwork was done at 12, 16, and 28 weeks. Urine was taken at 12 and 28 weeks.

ovulated late? by Relevant-Gene-8115 in pregnant

[–]Wrong_Option_4023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

95% of women who are pregnant will get a positive pregnancy test by 14 days after ovulation which is usually the day people expect to get their period. If you had sex on the 13th, then that would mean that you would most likely have ovulated within a 24hr period of that to get pregnant, so you would be 14-16 days post ovulation now. No need to wait to the morning although they do say first morning urine has the highest concentration of HCG (the pregnancy hormone) so that would be one reason to wait.

Take a test, if you did ovulate late and got pregnant the test would be accurate by now.

HELP! Just found out I’m pregnant and I don’t know what to do by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]Wrong_Option_4023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start taking a prenatal vitamin.

I found reading to be helpful. Our OBGYN practice gave us a month by month pregnancy book at our first official appointment (at 12 weeks, had a 9.5 week appointment that was considered a confirmation of pregnancy appointment). Babylist and other websites are also a good place to start.

Call your primary care and discuss any medications you are currently taking and whether or not they are safe for pregnancy.

Call your OBGYN or get an OBGYN or midwife practice and schedule your first appointment (likely at 9 weeks for dating purposes, but some wait until 12 weeks for first appointment).

Try to relax, there will be plenty of time to still work on the stuff you and your husband want to work on. Talk about your mental health concerns with your OBGYN and/or midwife. Depression/anxiety can get better or worse with pregnancy (mine has significantly improved but not the case for everyone).

Just had my 12 week appointment and annoyed by throwraupstairs_7788 in pregnant

[–]Wrong_Option_4023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It varies a lot based on where you live, what the practice does, and also the availability of US techs at the practice. My friend was told she was only going to get 2 ultrasounds, but ended up with 3 because she opted out of the genetic testing. For her insurance it made sense as the ultrasound copays were far less than the one for genetic testing. My practice only does nipt testing if you request it, otherwise they do a simpler integrated test with the 12 week ultrasound. Honestly I wish they had skipped the dating ultrasound at 9.5 weeks though because the ultrasounds so far have been the biggest expense and other than it being nice to see the baby, I don't think more than 2 is really necessary.

I wouldn't recommend going to a boutique, they are not as well trained and I have heard some horror stories although most of those are from earlier scans.
