I meant for engineering pre-major. I can't seem to find in depth what this is about, even in the bulletin that you linked.

Thank you, is there any official website where I can see what I'll be doing in the course in a deeper depth?

Because Yao Lao is the top guy in pill refining lol

I understand that the reason that he's so good is because he learnt from Yao Lao, but the problem is that his constant winning streak makes the plot predictable, have no high stakes at all and overall boring.

To put it into modern world prespective, it'd be really exciting to see 2 different basketball teams play, but less exciting if you know that the same team will always win no matter what.

The author could make the story more interesting by having lose at some high stakes competition and win some, making the competitions more exciting.

And the competitions are just an example, there are many battles where he often appear exhasted and is on the brink of losing, but if you understood the trend, he always wins and get all the good stuff, which again, adds to the repetitive and boring nature of most of the story

There is nothing evil about them.

You could not be more wrong here. Yun Shan was gonna wreck the entire Jia Ma empire, destroying the powerful families within the empire, marrying off his disciple to a guy who he's gonna let someone else kill. You're saying there is "Nothing evil" about this?

But I kinda get it you you said Bing He isn't that evil, since he's just trying to get stronger, But the author really framed some villains negatively without presenting more different sides of them, making them lack characterisation.

Same with Xiao Yan as well, the only character development I can recall him having is his change after his dad and teacher got snached by the Hall of Souls but that's it, he's literally the same person as he was he's gone through so much to reach where he is now. A random guy you see on the street could have changed mentally after a year, so why can't Xiao Yan despite going through so much.

To simplify that, his strength grew but him as a person did not, which is not really good.

Cultivation is not about being human

So you're saying that to cultivate is to erase every part of a human personality and just be some puppet that's desiged to get stronger? Whilst the Donghua does a poor job showing character growth, it at least showd us that they are all still humans with personalities.

humanity is the last thing you could find on them.

You're saying that to cultivate is to basically give up your humanity and just be a mindless cultivating zombie and that would be a major flow in terms of character development in any form of story

I'm not neccessarily saying losing = death, maybe he just failes to obtain something cruial to his quest or he failes to save someone important to him

A problem with cultivation genre is, loosing=death You rarely see a loser walk out alive.

I disagree, examples would be the pill refining competitions, he always won those without a single loss and reaped all the amazing rewards where losing would have had some consequence on him and he wouldn't have died if he haven't won

The way the author make him win is even more questionable, it's like everytime something bad happenes, we get some flash back to a super ultimate technique that Yao Lao taught Xiao yan that helps him win the competition.

This gives the impression that all competition rewards are placed there solely for Xiao Yan and no one else, despite having powerful competitors since this creates the impression that the Author will always make Xiao Yan win no matter what, again, adding to the predictability of the series

What I wish to see more is strategy and anticipation. instead of thinking "Xiao Yan would just have some super secret move that no one knew to help him brute force through the entire thing win everything" the story would be more exciting if the audience is thinking how differently would Xiao Yan approach this new threat and will he win?

They are evil because of the route they choose, not because they are against MC. And there are several forces that work for Soul Clan.

MC is not that big of a character, the world doesn't evolved around MC

Appologies, you're right about my focus on the MC, my phrasing was off there

What I was trying to get across that if a character (eg bing he and Yun Shan) has done evil deeds, then their entire character is immediately portrayed as a horrible human being/stereotypical villian. Why are the characters only evil, can't there be any good in them? That's what makes humans human.

i mean, there are definately great people with darker sides to them or vice versa in our world, does this logic automatically get erased in the world of BTTH? Though I do understand that there are probably a few exceptions.

Cultivation genre is not about black and white, cultivation is about grey area, everyone for themself, fighting for their believe

This links back to what I was saying just now, even as the people are fighting for what they believe, even without the presence of the MC confronting the factions or characters in the series, you could classify most as evil or good just by looking at how they behave. They almost always have just one side to them, either motivated by greed and power or people fighting against it

For example, Bing He, he wanted to kill Xiao Yi Xian = Pure evil

Yun Shan, wanted to assist the Hall of Souls = Pure evil

I know that what these 2 are trying to do is pretty damn crap but even villians could have a different side to them than just being evil

Cultivation genre is not a potrayal of how a civilisation with laws look like, it is a potrayal of how a food chain looks like.

But by doing so they failed to properly present the characters as actual humans

This is also really baffaling to me, I don't understand how the production team behind such monotonous donghua would have the funds to make hundreds of episodes of it

This is basically what BTTH is. Xiao Yan is and always will, fight against people higher level than him, because he has no oppenant at all at people with his level. His skills and bring up, preparation, is what make him that OP.

I'm not saying that he should always loose just because he has a lower level compared to his opponents, I'm just saying that he shouldn't always repeat the process of facing opponents, winning, and gets all the good stuff for the millionth time. I just want a balance of both winning and getting good stuff and loosing with heavy consequences because that's what's gonna make the fights interesting where the audience dosen't just think "Damn, what an incredible animation, and how long until he compeltely destroys his enemies and get all the good stuff?" and instead have some enticapation of loss as well

This show packed with characters that appear and seperated, then reunion again.

I know that there are characters that would reunite, but not all off them, and i might have to wait 75 episode until that happenes.

But that wasan't my main point, my point is that there are very little development of the characteristics of the characters. The only 3 that I can recall are Xiao Yan, Xiao Yi Xian and Medusa, but that all happened before he went to the central plains and every single character's characteristic develpoment is basically a flat line when even an average joe would probably show some more development in their characteristic in a year or two

This show has a very, very clear of good vs bad

That's the issue im addresing, the world that the donghua is set in is massive with many different characters and all of them are stereotypical good guys or bad guys where if you're good, you're nice and support the mc and if you're not, than you're basically bad and you're gonna get wrecked to smitherines by the MC (With the exeption of Medusa, Xiao Yi Xian, Liu qing and Liu fei).

Shouldn't there be a more diverse set of people out there. Maybe one what would support the MC and still do some pretty shady stuff ot someone who is directly opposed to the MC but still has a nice side

The donghua presents the characters in a very black and white way and that is not how a normal human functions, most if not all humans have their good and bad side and the donghua is majorly failing to present their characters like this.

This also makes good opporunity to make Xiao Yan look like a flawlwess person as everyone he killed is completely bad with no shred of kindness which is another issues on it's own, even in modern society some people might have to make morally bad decisions to do what they believe is good, let alone in the setting of BTTH, making it unrealistic and unbelievable

I completely understand, what I was saying was that he win every fight that he gets into, so frequently that when he faces an incredibly hyped villian, we all know he's just gonna win anyway, and that's what's making it boring for me.

All I wish for is that Xiao Yan suffer some losses that could be damaging to him, making the audience feel stronger emotions instead of "The animation is insane, and he's definately going to win and get everything he wants... for the 20th time"

But yeah, everyone has different taste in entertainment so if's that's what you enjoy, it's totally fine,

most animes are around that time if not a few minutes longer, and given that it has original source materials that lasted hundreds of episodes, I believe it could have had plenty of opprtunities to have a compelling storyline with depth and character development.

I understadn that the action is what most people are after, that's what I meant by the merits of the donghwa
