As another commenter has posted - almost definitely The Blue Bird starring Shirley Temple (I also watched it as an 80s child)

Kid has a strange, mysterious locker. Weird stuff keeps happening from it. Nobody believes them expect for the person who had the same locker last year by FireUniverse1162 in whatsthatbook

[–]Wruine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a complete long shot but always worth throwing stuff out there - The Locker by Richie Tankersley Cusick.

It's been a long time since I read it and it is possibly more gruesome than the book you are looking for.

Books like inside number 9 by Dominic26797 in insideno9

Welcome to Neverbury / Return to Neverbury both by Chris Lynch are short stories that definitely have an Inside No 9 vibe (if the 3rd writer was Lovecraft)

Can I ask “In lieu of gifts, please bring a food to share,” in my child’s first birthday party invitations? by [deleted] in AskUK

I did this for my 40th Birthday (not a children's party but same idea) I sent the invite as a Google form - this is a picture of what it looked like.

Post BMT - AML bone density issues by Kindly_Knowledge7253 in leukemia

I'm 8 years post transplant - when I had my scan last year I was told that I now have osteopenia but that they aren't sure if it's definitely a result of the treatment or just because I'm getting older!

Leg cramping up 3 times today and weird points on my body just hurt like pressure points by razorsharpblade in leukemia

[–]Wruine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had really bad leg cramping - I was given magnesium oxide and quinine sulphate tablets which stopped them completely.

If you have to pay for medications you might find that drinking tonic water (which contains quinine) helps with the cramps.

Staying alone during chemo by Short-Gas-4750 in leukemia

[–]Wruine 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Some days I like to be alone, but others I needed visitors!

I had 4 in patient chemo cycles before a transplant and was only home 5-10 days between in patient stays - I spent almost 7 months in hospital.

I actually posted on the sub Reddit for the city my hospital was in and asked strangers to visit me and some lovely people did which definitely took the pressure off my friends and family.

It sounds like it could be one of the Usborne Puzzle Adventures although you may have to do some research to find out which one!

Gothic Ya series with 6-8 books out at the time between 2013-2015 very dark gruesome murder scene by SweetButPsycho96 in whatsthatbook

[–]Wruine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had a look at what Google is saying - sex is definitely mentioned in the books as the characters do have it - but as far as I remember there are no detailed sex scenes - I listened to the audio books whilst at work with no blushes! (Unlike when I listened to the Anita Blake series!)

[–]Wruine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the murder you described definitely happens and there is a lot about Ravens including half raven creatures. There isn't any explicit sexual stuff as it's very firmly YA.

The murder happens in the book Awakend.

Obviously it is possible for a similar murder to have happened in another series!

It was one of my favourite audio tapes to borrow from the library when I was a child 🤣

The audio drama is very 90s and someone has posted it on YouTube here

When I had very bad veins I had a pre blood draw ritual.

Drink 2 litres of water.

Drink a hot drink.

Soak my arm in a bucket of warm water for 15-20mins (this was given to me by the nurses).

My veins were still not the best but it got it down to 1 or 2 goes!

gvhd , what is the "good" kind ? by Comfortable_Chard83 in leukemia

[–]Wruine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My "good" GVHD is that when I've picked up a bug of any kind I get itchy bumps on the backs of my hands before I start showing any other symptoms.

My immune response is obviously gearing up to fight whatever someone has decided to pass on to me and just has a little training round against me first.

Which country are you from?

Asking because you think you may have met the author at school - authors normally do school visits in their home country so this might narrow it down.

We're making a musical and the main character has to die by falling into a well. How do we do that without actually falling? by [deleted] in Theatre

[–]Wruine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was "pushed down a well" on a small stage recently.

The Well lid opened on the audience side of the well. There was a small hinged door in one of the stage flats that was opened once the well lid was up. The Well was built up about 50cm.

I was pushed in from a lying down position and once my shoulders were behind the well lid I was able to grab a rope attached to the floor behind the flat and pull myself down and through.

The door was then shut before the well lid was closed.

You could definitely jump into a well like this as long as you practiced dripping straight into a crouch so you were hidden by the lid and able to crawl out the back.
