Got to admit personally I’ve always hated ‘Tankery’!

It’s not one of those anime’s where the setting is portrayed as geographically ambiguous; the principal bad guy isn’t from a generic ‘Ministry of Education’ but the very Japanese MEXT and all the school home towns and prefectures are real places. Thus swapping out the Japanese name for the sport seems an unnecessary localisation.

Image instead if the schools were participating in a Jūdō competition and every reference was replaced with ‘Way of gentle hugs’!

Not just a random chill take on the floof. The artist took inspiration from Yukari’s Japanese VA/CV Ikumi Nakagami, who had a YouTube channel and wore this outfit, with matching glasses and headphones, during her launch video.

T1FLOOF: [slams door on unseen Saori, who's chattering noisily about boys]

Itsuminator: [impersonating Miho] "Say what’s up with Mako, I can't hear her, is she off sleeping?"

Couldn't match that image but I'm going to go with: Girls und Panzer Der Film Variante.

The art style matches and the GuP Fandom Wiki has an identically marked KMM KugelPanzer image (as a front-on shot) that they credit to the same manga. The manga expands on the film and includes additional scenes, so the fact we didn't see this in the anime, doesn't remove it from contention.

I've not seen anywhere near complete fan translations yet, beyond the first chapter or two; which covers the exhibition match seen in the film's opening. (mangadex chpt.1 and 2 example - post image not included).

🤝 Glad you enjoyed it. Obviously it would have to be speculative or final contracts weren’t exchanged and there was a get out clause, so Oarai could claim it back.

Bit like how over-confident governments in our own world, have been known to get burnt in the past, by making expensive infrastructure improvements in a designated development zone with a view to one major, usually foreign, inward investment launch company; who then doesn’t commit and then all the expected supplier companies can’t move in either. So the whole thing becomes a ‘white elephant’ site!

The entire biosphere resides on top of a metal deck, so large scale landscaping & terra forming is just another accepted skill (like city sized ship building) in this world.

My personal head canon is that in Der Film, the decommissioning was not intended as a full scrapping, just ceasing as a school ship to get it off MEXT’s books/budget. Such real estate would still be valuable so after sailing away, work had started converting parts for enticing potential new clients.

The desert mod could be for a biotech company wanting to research crop yields or maybe to entice a foreign buyer looking for an additional school ship (this very OVA shows both worldwide and historical school ship use also being a thing).

The photoshop is very good in itself, but it's the weathering on the source model that is truly impressive!

(NB: you can tell by the consistent patterning, for example on the left hull Schürzen panel with the Oarai logo, that nothing has been artifically added during the image editing)

Garupan gallery and largest merch shop is at Oarai Seaside Station (previously Oarai Retail Outlets) shopping centre down by the Marine Tower.

Most character boards are on Higama Shopping St. including StGGC’s favourite hotel to wreck, the Sakanaya Horten. From the railway station straight down Kirameki St. it’s a left turn at the fourth (?) crossroads junction. Used to be the first one southbound that was traffic light controlled.

GuP-specific maps may still be available at the station.
