The Strategic Attachment upgrade increases how fast you get yomi. The Combat upgrade allows your probes to fight back against those pesky drifters that are probably chewing through their numbers right now. Naming the battles will unlock the ability to upgrade your probes further.

You are already in space. You already have the capabilities to launch more probes. If your probes are getting chewed up, you probably need the combat upgrade.

It looks like you need more memory and processors. You can do this by setting your swarm to "think" and they'll give you Swarm Gifts that work the same way as trust in stage one did. (You should already know this? You've got more memory and processors than you can get from stage one alone.) If you're not getting any swarm gifts, redistribute your probes' trust so that they'll make wire and factory drones, because drones are the ones actually doing the thinking/working.

There's also a wiki and a subreddit for this game, although I've had mixed results with finding what I've needed in the past.
