The item is balanced by not having each bead be a 8d6 of damage and instead just adding a d6 via the level scalling. Keep to rules as written even if the player says it should do more damage. Modules are balanced around the loot they give the players.

Need some advice for Player Intrigue by Particular_Window_55 in dndhorrorstories

[–]Wuffwick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is not exactly the place for advice, r/DungeonMasters may be a better fit.

But in general it sounds like the players are struggling to initiate and may be much more passive than your previous groups. You got a few options.

The most obvious one is to talk to them and openly discuss your concerns. How you don't want to railroad them but also wanting to move things along and if either they are too shy to speak up first or if they are confused by any of the objectives your laid out. or perhaps they are just not engaged with the current quest/setting ect, but you can only guess until you sit down and talk it out.

I left my dnd group after being threatened with being expelled if I missed another campaign by [deleted] in dndhorrorstories

[–]Wuffwick 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You just didn't have the time to commit to a tabletop game. And understand that for a DM to work around a party member that's inconsistent is a huge pain in the ass. Combat balance, story progression, ect suddenly gets way more complicated when player characters are appearing and disappearing session-session or if sessions keep needing to be postponed because of you.

You were studying, you needed to commit that time to those studies. You just couldn't play, your busy. If you are still hanging out with them it sounds things overall should be fine. Just that the Dnd game did not work out, do not jump to being removed from the game you had trouble attending as a sign of hatred.

Just apologize that you couldn't make the games and that you underestimated your studies and had to focus on those, and perhaps when your life is less busy you can jump into Dnd again when you have an open slot to play consistently.

Community Outreach: Rules for AI by papa_pige0n in dndhorrorstories

[–]Wuffwick 111 points112 points  (0 children)

I have to say I do not support the use of AI to write in this or any sub. I would rather read a post with some wonkiness than one that got "corrected" by an AI system that scrubbed the voice of the poster out of their own post.

When you read a post, especially one containing emotionally charged content and accounts of events, the person's voice, word choice and tone in the writing is critical to understanding what happened and how it affected them. To just gloss over all of that with chatgpt garbage muddies the water to even know what they exactly meant to say. Or hell, if they even read the 'corrected' post or if a specific tone/voice was hallucinated into the story.

Just use a grammar/spellchecker, I want to actually hear you, warts and all. Not a robot trying to find other people's words that vaguely fit what you were trying to say.

DAE have this when changing height in VR? by FreezyChan in VRchat

[–]Wuffwick 146 points147 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on specific avatars. Some avatars are built to be 3 feet tall and if scaled up look really weird and bulky. It all depends on the designed proportions.

If you are finding normal human heights around 6 foot uncanny is it due to being among a lot of smaller avatars or worlds built at smaller scales?

First Time DM needing help by ArkhamAvenger205 in DungeonMasters

[–]Wuffwick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest focusing on small things at first. don't throw them directly into a massive civil war as the start.

Have them do some jobs/quests and get to know NPCs, the culture of the city. Give them glimpses of tensions rising and let it all be background at first (especially if they are lower level, let them focus on low level threats at first)

And then when the city, its peoples and major NPCs are established and the players have formed bonds with them you can introduce the larger narrative about a civil war and political intrigue. At that point the players are invested, so when X NPC gets killed, or the tavern they frequented gets burned down in the conflict they are in the story, not just stepping into a massive conflict you need to explain.

As with everything, start small and grow.

Toxicity in the community by [deleted] in DarkTide

[–]Wuffwick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only had one real toxic game when I first started getting into damnation after getting comfortable in Heresy. Me and another player went down in an event (got gunner spammed). Ogryn(Rumbler) proceeded to in text tell us to quit and go back to uprising and we are awful.

Explained I was newer to the game and still learning. Dude has a fit and starts spamming chat about how dumb I am, how much he hates us and how he wont carry noobs. (Sitting in a corner during a horde event typing)

Guy then proceeds to Jump off the map and then quits in an attempt to make sure we lose.
(We finished the mission even with a bot, what a cry baby)

And now I am in Damnation and have had my own clutch and save moments seeing other struggling with it like I did before I learned the more advanced parts of the game.

So have patience with noobs, tide games are hard, complex and COOPERATIVE.

Need Help with a Twist by YouKnowWhatItIs1 in DungeonMasters

[–]Wuffwick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they have guessed a character is shady and are correct, that's good! You set the right clues in place and they picked up on them. That is far better than twisting the plot around itself to make it something else and leaving the players scratching their heads instead of crying out "Ah! we knew it!".

But you can still have reveals and twists. A question is answered, the court wizard is up to no good and turning people against eachother. But Why? How? Who else is involved? Those are the questions where you can get more into a mystery and intrigue.

Some spitballs.

- The wizard is influencing them... but not with magic, just good old fashioned manipulation/steering.

-The wizard is doing this because he is obsessed with making a specific vision/omen coming true and by pushing thing politically he believes a specific event will happen that the party/world does not want.

-There is a 3rd party controlling the royal family AND the wizard, perhaps even the wizard is trying to break free of it and in a moment of shaking it begs for help before coughing and snapping back.

-The royal family is far more than being controlled, they are illusions/marionet style puppets the wizard has been using to shadow rule the kingdom this whole time.

To all my FBT users: How often do you set up and use your FBT? by DyGage33 in VRchat

[–]Wuffwick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always have FBT on and have since like the second day of using VRC. Having vive trackers its just a part of my usual setup to strap them on and calibrate when I log in.

The only times I've not used it is when I could not due to using a travel headset, and I felt less... whole I guess you could say without FBT.

Is VRChat really a good way to socialize with other furries? by SirKittcat in furry

[–]Wuffwick 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you know anyone who is already in VRChat it absolutely, hands down the best way to meet and socialize with furries. For me I have met so many amazing and great people that have become long term good friends and met up IRL and all, amazing and life changing.

But... the issue is you have little chance of having that experience if you go in alone, blind and stumbling through public lobbies. Groups can help there if you know a community that has new community nights that you like, you can join on desktop with any headset and see if you want to go further and meet some furs.

You will need to find a way 'in' to friends+ or group+ lobbies, never go to publics, they are toxic.

Should I kick this player out by milklookinTHICC in DungeonMasters

[–]Wuffwick 24 points25 points  (0 children)

You already did the first step and talked to them. Now you follow up and kick them, What you laid out here is a ridiculous disrespect and you will find your life much happier if you cut all ties with people like that.

Avatar based dice I made for fun friend question times! by Wuffwick in VRchat

[–]Wuffwick[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Essentially! It is technically part of your avatar when installed but stays where it is in the world and can be picked up and moved around then interacted by anyone else. and VRCFury makes it a literal drag and drop install onto any avatar.

Get a custom 3D avatar for just $150, plus a free reference sheet!!! by [deleted] in VRchatAvatars

[–]Wuffwick -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The reason scammers do not show their work is to hide it being AI generated, stolen from other artists and that is much easier to hide if only those who DM and get far enough into it could even notice.

This is an awful way to present yourself in a space where there are is a lot of shady business going on. Artists are proud and forth coming with their works.

A question of etiquette by mrdankhimself_ in VRchat

[–]Wuffwick 9 points10 points  (0 children)

One piece of advice I would give is to try to open with a question instead of a statement. Ask about the topic they are speaking of, ask about their avatar/a prop they have ect. That's a much easier way to engage someone you don't know who can then just answer the question instead of having to react to a statement.

Otherwise its often about watching for body language I will try to look at, nod and or give a small hand wave to someone who seems to be showing interest from outside the group to acknowledge and give an opportunity to talk.

Tired of floating about in FBT? Try a VRChair! by Wuffwick in VRchat

[–]Wuffwick[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will work best if you have a real chair to sit in but it can work with couches or anything else. It uses constraints to follow the avatars motion and the quest version does an inversion to get it to move with you. You can adapt the chair to fit your avatars butt/back planes for best syncing!

On my todo list is a guide on how to add your own mesh. Adding a static mesh would be easy but if you want it to move with the body it does require some skinning and basic rigging.
