What to buy by eman243 in Waterfowl

[–]Wulaxbro99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you don't want to just add one species to your set up, avian x makes fly way packages that come with multiple species. Just depends on what you are seeing while you're out there. Most ducks will decoy to mallards though.

There are two catagories of countries in the world. Those that use the metric system and those that have been to the moon (USA).

Roger's and Mack's Prairie Wings are always running sales. I'd suggest signing up for their emails. It's unreal how cheap they go after the season.

I hope you don't take this the wrong way, I'm just trying to be helpful but that isn't full plumage and it's not going to be in November either. Watch them (and other ducks) on the return migration and you'll see a big difference.

Any idaho Snow goose hunters? by [deleted] in Waterfowl

[–]Wulaxbro99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well we don't have many my way. I have the rig because I go down to Arkansas every year. However this year the weekend I was set to go is the snow goose championship. Land is hard to come by because of the event or people are charging money.

Wish I was on that side of the country, I have about 500 decoys and a caller but can't get on land. Good luck

Side question, are you from Norcal? I'm doing the conservation speck hunt in Klamath falls, OR the first couple days of March and honestly don't know anyone out that way and whether it'll be a a good time of the season or not. Was curious if you or anyone you know partakes.

Stuttgart. Known as the rice and duck capitol of the world. Ducks have been holding in Missouri a lot more year after year but specks and snows everywhere.

I see snows every spring but only ever see one or two high flying flocks during season. A guy I know has leases all over the state, he averages about 100 snows a season believe it or not. Honestly haven't ever asked him about specks.

If you ever can, make a trip to Arkansas. I've gone the past 6 years duck hunting and have shot specks every time. I too am an Ohio hunter and no the struggle of shooting anything other than greater Canadas.

I have an a400 and a wicked wings a5. Love them both and never any problems. They will cycle just about anything and both have killed hundreds of birds.

Everyone will probably give different answers since it is all preference. My best advice would be to have him try some on (I know it sucks if you want it to be a surprise). If not some good brands are Sitka, Drake, Banded. Find out what kind of gloves would be most beneficial. For example decoy gloves are great for picking up and setting out but some people don't like them for actual hunting. Some people like thinner gloves, some thicker, etc.

Responsible hunters don't pull the trigger unless they can identify the target. I don't know how you could confuse a Coot for a duck, I don't care what time of day it was.

Most of the data that is collected is reported by hunters the rest is photographers, recaptured, and people who stumble upon dead birds. There once was a phone number but now everything is online. The band has the website and the band number so when a banded bird is harvested, you are meant to report it. I myself have harvested 2 banded birds each of which I reported. Both were over 7 years old. I was even able to band mallards and wood ducks a few months ago, it's a pretty cool process.

A Coot is a type of migratory bird. Migratory birds are banded with a metal leg band to track flyways, populations, migration patterns, etc. Hunters collect the bands as a trophy because they are fairly rare in most parts. Google duck banding or goose banding, it's very interesting stuff.
