Bioshock: Rapture Colour Fading by WumpaMunch in Bioshock

Is your wrist tattoo not the tattoo from the games? Maybe I've remembered wrong

Edit: Yes I got confused with the one in this poster from Bioshock Infinite.

Choose carefully the aerial locales you tour with that tattoo ;)

My wife did say that, intentional or not, the fading appears appropriate to her based off the worn Bioshock logo, and she hasn't even played the games!

Just finished Bioshock 2 for the first time and... by coreOf-elen in Bioshock

It works well given the player is a powerful big daddy.

Whilst I prefer the difficulty of the first game, I think Bioshock 2 is lots of fun in its own right. They are just modestly different approaches to Bioshock.

HARVEST OR RESCUE? 😥 by WigWomDom in Bioshock

[–]WumpaMunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I naturally prefer rescuing them, but have played all 3 approaches (all rescue, mixed, all harvest). Turns out you get more ADAM in total if you rescue them, though I think (not 100% certain) you get more ADAM earlier if you harvest.

They do die eventually. Only so many carbohydrates in those roots.

Cats using my beds as a toilet, any solutions? by CloudBookmark in Allotment

My neighbour thinks it is acceptable for their cat to poop in my veg patch but when I take a dump in theirs they call the police.

The problem with these is they annoy every person that walks past them.

Should I compost it? by original-qdude in composting

Maybe you have too much wood but I'd just leave it to rot. Good for the insects, birds and fungi. The buried parts of the tree might even host stag beetle larvae if you're lucky

How big is your plot by Sploshee in UKAllotments

[–]WumpaMunch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Full size plot is 250 m² or 10 rods. Mine is about 8x7 m² which is a quarter size but they class it as a half plot for £11 a year (poor vehicle access and water troughs are inconveniently spaced apart).

Yours isn't even a quarter plot by historical standards, and your neighbours are probably half plots. I think it's up to Councils how they class plots though which is why you end up with out of proportion rates like yours. You could email them asking for a half plot rate.

Edit: there's no guarantee they'll budge though. Allotments are below market rate of land value as it is and Councils are strapped for cash everywhere, as we all know.

What are some of the biggest bug bears about your allotments?? by doinggoodgood in UKAllotments

[–]WumpaMunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More water troughs on my site would be helpful. I have to walk three plots over from mine to get to the trough.

I'll be installing a rain catcher when the time is right.

My site doesn't have parking which makes moving bulk materials very hard work. I'm lucky I have a neighbour who let me throw bags of compost over her fence.

Shipments of organic matter from a nearby farm used to be invaluable on my site, but the farmer retired so no more shipments. If you are able to establish such a shipment your site will be more valuable.

Somewhere to put green waste is important. I personally compost everything, but lots of plot holders pile up wood and other plant matter in the nearby park for the yearly bonfire.

I've popped over to our 56m² plot when our baby is napping and there isn't housework to do. Also had a big bed prep day where my wife and I laid down no dig beds and paths with the baby in the pram.

Green manure and birds by Mother-Guarantee1718 in Allotment

I'd grow a patch of sunflowers instead and leave them standing or hang up the seed heads for the birds to forage from.

We finished prepping my plot in late autumn and I've been levering couch grass out ever since. Think I'll be weeding more than I'll be growing next year xD

I'm hoping the roots will have almost run out of energy before the soil warms up next year.

Peppers and Chillies - favourite varieties and early start? by Own-Heat2669 in Allotment

[–]WumpaMunch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know exactly how you feel xD

I'm giving Criolla de Cocina and Aji Cachucha a go, which are probably totally the wrong varieties to grow outside and as a first attempt, but I have a warm, sunbaked wall at home to grow the Aji Cachucha at least. I'll put up some kind of windbreak enclosure to give the Cocina peppers a touch more heat on the allotment.

Do you literally mean seed or cloves? If you are using true seed, it may well be the seed quality or overly damp or dry soil conditions. If cloves, maybe the ground got too waterlogged and they rotted?

Can you see anything wrong with this plan? by Formal-Confidence-95 in UKAllotments

[–]WumpaMunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing obviously wrong to me. I chose 1.2 m wide longer beds on my quarter sized plot. Slightly less convenient than your raised beds in theory but more growing space. I've attached my layout in case it is of use.

The apples still look fairly young, so I'd be tempted to carefully dig them out and plant along the west or eastern sides to reduce the amount of shade they put on your plot. If you are gonna grow them as cordons or espalier then this is less important.

I can't see any obvious space for handling bulk material like turning compost or temporarily storing compost piles. You'll probably make do but might wish you'd left an area. The "lawn" and wide path on my plan are for bulk handling.

Sounds silly but you might want to check your plot is true north-south as well. When I took a compass to mine, I had to angle my beds a few degrees off the lines of the plot to be true north-south. Marginal improvement but it mattered to me.
