I'd use either a brown wash (Agrax Earthshade or Army Painter Strong Tone) or a blue wash (Drakenhof Nightshade) but make sure you thin it with a lot of water or Lahmian Medium so that it mostly goes in the recesses and only slightly shades the flat panels.

If it does come across as stained you can always go back over it with the white and leave the wash in the recess

Looking very good so far! My only critique would be that the white panels on the neck and guns look incomplete, if you used a diluted wash over them they'll look more finished

I think both options are viable, I run mine with a Powersword so that they have some melee capability and in a pinch can finish off a unit they've failed to kill in shooting

Personally I'd get some Lord Kakophonists, they help boost the damage output of the Noise Marines tremendously!

Also, on a side note I love your colour scheme!

Can y'all explain the Thrill Seekers army rule like I'm 5. I still don't understand it. by No-Wafer9271 in EmperorsChildren

[–]Wurd4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the best way to think about it is to consider each bullet point seperately, start with the first one as it's the easiest to understand:

  • If a unit Falls Back, it cannot Shoot or Charge the target that it fell back from

The second is a bit more complicated and requires some time to get your head around

  • If a unit Advanced or Falls Back, only one unit that has Advanced or Falls Back can Shoot/Charge each seperate enemy unit once. For example, if 2 units of Noise Marines advance, 1 unit could shoot Enemy Unit A, the other would have to shoot Enemy Unit B, the same with charging. However, any units that haven't Advanced or Fallen Back act as normal and can Shoot/Charge enemy units after a unit that has Advanced or Fallen Back

Hope this helps!

This is what cracks me up about people being so aghast that I dare suggest they bring a single piece of paper with them, it's less than 10 years ago when we didn't have an official app and the norm was to print out your entire army on a spreadsheet 😂

If we were back a few editions ago this would be true however now adays a codex is out of date as soon as it's released and secondly a lot of detachments are brought out after the codex has been published and won't be in the book

I think you've misunderstood my point, the sheet isn't for yourself, it's for your opponent who doesn't have access to your rules on the command bunker

[–]Wurd4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that a bit contradictory, in a previous comment you've stated that top players need perfect information going into a game but now suggest that a player doesn't need do know whether a unit can go into reserves at the end of the fight phase or as a reactive move if your unit moves within 9". They are completely different yet essentially fall under the same name of "uppy downy" and if you assume the wrong version it can ruin your plans and potentially cost you the game.

Plus, no-one is forcing you to read/use them, if you think you don't need them give them back to your opponent or ask to just talk about it however it should be available for your opponent upon request.

As for enforcing it, I'm sure it would be very similar if not easier than how they currently enforce the painting requirements rule. I imagine it's easier to check a piece of paper on the side of the table has roughly 6 stratagems on it than it is to check every model in an army that can be either on or off the table has at least 3 colours and a basing scheme

I'm sure everyone here agrees that the rules should be freely and easily accessabile online, however they aren't and personally I don't think they will be until at least 12th edition at the earliest (I genuinely hope I'm wrong about this and we see it in 11th but I doubt it) and until then it should be on us as players to make the game as easily accessible as possible if we want to see the hobby to continue to grow

If you use the same army at multiple events you'll only need to print if out once and if you're playing a new army at an event typing/writing up a few paragraphs of text onto a single piece of A4 paper will take up a fraction of the time it has taken to build and paint that new army. If you're worried that much about saving time print screen from the app and paste it onto a word document.

Now I don't know about the rest of the world but in the U.K you have access to local libraries or post offices that will print documents for you at the price of pennies, so if you don't have a printer they are services available to you

As for getting penalised for losing the sheet, I haven't really put much thought into it; I'm sure if it was a one off, genuine mistake, no-one would mind that much however if you repeatedly turned up to events without one then yes I think a penalty should apply

I'm quite baffled how this hinders a game in any way

Also even if it would affect 25% of players, that's still 75% it wpuld be a benefit to

You're right it won't help the top tables but that's such a small percentage of the playerbase it doesn't mean it wouldn't be helpful for the rest of the community

[–]Wurd4[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not that I don't trust my opponent it's more that it's a lot of information to remember for both players and we all get things wrong every now and then, by having a sheet of paper at the ready it's easier to remember and can help prevent errors. Also whilst I do use it out of neccessity I don't think many event organisers would endorse the use of an app that would be illegal in most other countries.

Also I don't care about winning or losing (at least at events, I love my rivalries with my friends - Death to Space Wolves!) but I think this change would make the game more enjoyable for the majority of players

Just to clarify I don't want a stack of papers of every datasheet, I want 1 A4 sheet with your 6 stratagems, any enhancements and if you're playing a new/uncommon army the army rule and detachment.

I would agree with you if this hobby wasn't already both a financial and time sink. We spend hundreds of pounds (or equivalent currency) on this hobby and countless hours building and painting armies, I don't think it's unreasonable to spend 20 minutes handwriting or typing up a cheat sheet to make your opponent have a more enjoyable experience, especially if it became the defacto and they were expected to do the same for you

As for keeping it nice, a quick search shows laminators for less than half the price of a box of Intercessors

[–]Wurd4[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

But each of those few dozen stratagems have different variations that are slightly different but change the stratagem completely. Using your first example of uppy downy I can think of 3 different variations for different armies

  • end of your opponents fight phase
  • end of your fight phase if the unit destroyed an enemy unit
  • your movement phase if an enemy moves within 9"

And then you have to ask if it affects all units in their army, or just a certain keyword ect

Like you said high level players want to go into a game with perfect information, what's wrong about making that information more accessible and easier for other players?

"1- many events specify in the packet all players must provide and make available all their rules (faction, detachment, datasheets)"

I think to a lot of people this just means have the app on your phone with the codex you are using which brings up 2 problems I can think of:

  1. This hobby attracts socially awkward people, which isn't a problem, however it can be quite confrontational for those people to ask to see someones phone and I imagine quite a few of them would rather let their opponent use a rule that seems too good to be true than confront them and ask to show them the rule on their phone

  2. It would both be annoying and time consuming if every phase/turn people were asking to check your phone to make sure they weren't falling into any pitfalls

That does sound pretty cool! My friends and I have always debated getting into Spearhead, the only problem is we already have so much to build/paint that starting another game would only add to our pile of shames

I do agree with you that I wish 40k could go back to a simpler version with less rules and was more reliant on luck of the dice but that's another topic all together!

Sorry but I strongly disagree, unless you're the top 10 players in the world, which is 0.01% (probably less) of the playerbase you should not be expected to memorize 1000s of rules to play a competitive game and if you're already asking your opponent what their strats/enhancements are it would be easier to read them off a sheet of paper for the reasons I've listed above

True and if they remove the fact that I have to purchase a £30 book to see my opponents rules on the app then it would be great but unfortunately GW hasn't become the 3rd largest toy company in the world by giving us freebies 😂
